Even though I am a die hard "power tool" guy there is something soothing about sharp chisels and hand planes.

Chris, couple things. First of all holy mackerel this is beautiful, you truly are a one-of-a-kind craftsman. And secondly, I really appreciate the outlook of there’s more than one way to do something. I mean you hand cut dovetails and then suggest a power tool jig to also perform the same task! There’s a lot to be said about having that mentality and I’m so glad that you convey that to your audience. All right enough rambling, great job see you later Chris

I wish more things where crafted this way when I was young more things where made with pride and care. When made in America meant quality. So thank you for the walk down memory lane. The sad part is I am only 42 and we have lost soooo much of what made us great.

Not my dislike but it's not the Video..it is the Rockler Commercial ..non stop pushing them is a vulgar sellout. May as well have Rockler tattooed on his right hand to burn it into into your brain even more. Turns a Composition into an IMPOSITION.

@jaystock9202
@jaystock9202 4 года назад
I hear that man. Took me much longer than maybe it should've because I didnt want to spend money. Freaking watch paul sellers go wap wap wap then boom, hes good to go. My method: -Get a cheap bevel guide. I only use it to set the edge, especially on used chisels, so I know that's good. -I use 150g sandpaper if chisel bought use or I need to reset the bevel, otherwise I go to the robcosman method. -Trend diamond plate 300/1000g. After this, I ditch the bevel gauge. -4000/8000 waterstone -do that back bevel trick And I always finish on a strop. Some ppl dont, some ppl use a higher grit stone, but finishing on a strop just gives me an edge I cant quite get otherwise without maybe dropping another $80plus on some 12000g ceramic stone or something. Problem with RU-vid is u cant ask questions so u got to keep plugging away until u find out what works for u. Stick with it if ur after it. It's pretty damn satisfying once u get a plane dialed in and u take that first shaving.
@durnik1573
@durnik1573 4 года назад
Chris has some great videos on sharpening. There’s a number of different products available to get you going. I personally started with a honing guide (~$30 on Amazon) with some different grits of auto body sandpaper (Another $30 for a multipack) glued to a piece of glass. It gets me to a mirror finish with my hand tools and is easily repeatable with the honing guide.

@@jaystock9202 As woodworkers we don't have a similar thing to America's Test Kitchen, it's just personal opinions which isn't wrong because different things work for different people which is what makes learning it take longer if you're not willing to just go with the first thing you see, I don't mind that though.
