You didn’t show the cool thing about the seat height adjustment - that the handle telescopes for ease of movement.

@@AutoAutopsy Ah well, when you’ve been driving Saabs for 41 years, you notice a few things. 😉
@akahan1
@akahan1 2 дня назад
I'm going to suggest that the wine glass rests in the glove compartment lid are NOT intended to be utilized while driving, and this is precisely why they are only 5mm high - it's a safety feature. (Particularly since drinking wine while driving is, at the very least, frowned upon.) They're intended for use in an in-vehicle picnic while stopped to admire a view of, e.g., the Alps. (In a pinch, the clutch return spring can be repurposed as a corkscrew as well.) Saabs have always been gourmet-conscious. As I'm sure you know, the 9-3 model has an air conditioning vent in the glove box, which the owners' manual specifically states is to "allow the storage of chocolate during hot weather". And, also on the 9-3, you can easily boil an egg on the ECU, which is why it was thoughtfully placed on the intake manifold. (Many erroneously view this as a design flaw, but I guess they prefer their eggs cold.)

Definitely! Well said. I still think they’re goofy, but I’m sure some have found use 😂👍🏼

The fold down seat is not only useful for camping but hauling appliances, too. In 1994, I was living in New Hampshire & got a job in Connecticut. I found out I needed a gas clothes dryer for my condo. I folded my seat in my 1991 900 Turbo, took a GE dryer out of the box, put it face down so the panel fit over the seatback and Viola! closed the hatch. Instant transport!

Great job Jacob. The reverse light in the turn signal ALSO lights up when you turn the blinker on, as it serves as a cornering light.

The only car that can rival the 900 by Saab is the 9000 Aero. It is one of the biggest sleepers I've ever experienced, absolutely insane.

🫡👍❤️🇸🇪 Great video, love those cars. One thing that 900 and 99 has is the kickerpanel is mounted on the Doors. Easy to get in and out. And one thing i noticed, the handle to higher up your seet, I think you can pull it out for moore power? I know in Swedish model you can.

I remember my dad’s 900 very well and noting seemed like a secret feature to me. Except that you can open bottles. But is that really meant for it? I also remember the smell of the leather seats especially when the car was new. It was a great vehicle that died in a car crash.

You brought back great memories with that front backup light. It was so useful in parking garages when backing up and turning at the same time. Those gatage cement pillars like to eat quarter panels. 😅 Way to showcase Saab engineering, safety details, and ingenuity, Jacob!! It IS why we love them so! ❤😊

Thank you! I am a new subscriber from Sweden. Interesting to see your front seatbelts with a fixed shoulder belt(?) and an inertia lap belt. It reminds me of the solution some American landyachts had in the early 1970s. The knee protection padding beneath the dashboard on your 900 looks like equipment exclusively for North American market cars, but I might be wrong.
@matejzatko787
@matejzatko787 2 дня назад
1. Reverse light in front light had only US market Saab 900 2. That “handle” in front of the passenger is for moving forward the seat, you will grab and pull yourself 3. That lever on height is movable, you can pull and you have more leverage and its going easier to move the seat

The bottle opener is your idea and the cup holder on the glovebox is to use for when the car is not driving, but I think you know that already even if you maybe joked about it as of being useless in the video. :D..... Have a good weekend!

Funny side note. If you call the handles on the ceiling "holy shit handles" then the one on the dash is the "holy hell handle". Its all about how much leverage you need for that accident your friend is currently driving you into. It actually helps to yell holy shit or holy hell when you grab either one too. Let's you buddy know he needs to slow down while adding at least 5% more staying power in your seat. 😂😂

Weird that you don’t have the oh shit-handle for the front passenger. My 1984 900 has the handles for all the passengers and a place to mount one also for the driver should you want one.
@Carluvr2011
@Carluvr2011 День назад
Do the cornering lights on the 900 also come on with the turn signals or is it just when in reverse? I know a bunch of Buicks, Cadillacs, and Oldsmobiles had those in the 80's, 90's, and the early 00's, but to my knowledge they only came on when the turn signals were activated on either side. I've noticed my MINI has this feature when put in reverse though and the headlights are on. It will also shine additional light on the side your turning when going around a corner, but I believe it only does that up to a certain speed. Your Audi may have that feature as well as I've noticed most of the modern euro cars seem to have it now. :) Great video too! The bottle opener is definitely a cool quirk/feature. 😎

My 9 3 has the cornering/reverse light as well. The only way I knew about it was the car gets parked undeground where its rather dark and when I put it into reverse, the wall next to my car would glow! Great feature!

Something else unique to SAAB -- you must use the key to lock the driver door. You can't push down the lock and close the door, it will pop up.

That seat adjustment was already an upgraded version. Before there was a system with the handle up front that adjusted up either the front, back or both. If memory serves me well it had two positions, about 4 cm between high and low. Started in the 99 when the seats with integrated head rests were introduced. When I installed 99-Turbo seats in the 96 I had to saw off the height adjustment brackets that were positioned at the underside at the back.

I agree that the wine glass holders were never meant for use while driving. More of a "when rain spoils your picnic plans" kind of a thing. 😅

@@AutoAutopsy In early days of motoring, pop out windows was a common thing on all/most cars since cars did not have air conditioning. Pop out windows started to disapere on cars in the70:s, and the feature was totally gone from the mid/late 70:s. Saab probably kept the pop out windows as a nostalgic thing since the predecessor to the 900, the 99 (witch the 900 was based on) was presented already in 1967 when pop out windows still was a common thing on cars.

Not sure if its been mentioned yet, but i rememer that at some models you could also pull the handle of the seat lifting thing forward a bit so you could have more leverage. Had some sort of telescopic mechanism on it so you wouldnt have to use as much force. Edit. yeah, it was mentioned. a few times. nevermind then =)

The glovebox “glass holders” aren’t so useless watching a meteor shower with a date having the seats reclined and the top down…. Just sayin’ And the oh-shirt handles for the back seats, not so much in a convertible either, though I don’t know how many times I’ve had friends duck to climb into the back seat (with the top down). And being Wisconsin raised, there are lots of car parts suitable for opening bottles. My Jeep’s hitch receiver is excellent!
