Nearly all the batteries I use are rechargeable. Any used batteries are taken to my local supermarket for safe disposal. All shops who sell at least one pack per day must accept old used ones by law in the UK and Europe. Any batteries no longer usable in high power devices can easily be used in clocks and remote controls. This is a great video.

This circuit described here is called a (JOULE THIEF). It was designed by big Clive. He has a RU-vid channel called (bigclivedotcom). Check him out. You can use any 2000 to 6000 NPN series transistors. You can use PNP's, 'but are wired different. The wire wound (Inductor or transformer) can be changed out for a solid state inductor. If you use the solid state inductor it could be put in a smaller space. I WOULD USE A MORE POWERFUL LED. Like a 1 watt. Thank you for your time in the production of these video's. It is appreciated. Thanks for your really nice video. Maybe you can build a charger for not fully discharged batteries? As I found out, voltage max. should be 1.8 V, current 50 mA. There are science documents in the web about it. I've build one like the Alkaricharger, it works.

I usually use smaller core availabe, have to wound 30t with very thin magnet wire,1/4w resistor and c945 transistor. germanium tr here veryrare :(

Good video. But I didn't got why one should collect empty batteries for later. There are recycling systems, at least in EU, for batteries. Their problem is, that too less batteries will be go back to recycling (in Germany 45% of all sold batteries). The remaining were thrown away. That is a big problem and should be solved.

In Germany all batteries can be disposed in nearly every supermarket. Carbatteries have a pledgeof 7,5eur to avoid people to leave them on the street. That the practical side. The law is clear (illegal to throw them in nature or household trash). But without practical soloutions like above poeple are lazy and most underestimate the dangers of chemicals.

I make these, I use a 1k resister, a 2N3904 Transistor, a tiny ferrite bead and enamel coated magnet wire 0.15 gauge and one LED.

Well , this short story will change your thinking about storing battery's in your house. I had battery 1.5 volts AA stored in on shelf for over a years, Simply forgotten.Once during one night , we heard strong detonation sound, like those small fireworks for new year. It took one hour of searching what happen, because there was no traces that something happen beside sound we heard. Than I found just bottom of one battery somewhere in the room and realized that battery has blown up . Well battery was not connected to anything at all , there was nothing around it to short it or whatever. So it were just siting there till something happen inside of battery what caused it to blow up . From that time I simply , remove all battery's from every single unused toy and device , and if empty I trow em away in to container outside which is made for collecting disposed battery's. Don't want even to talk about what can happen with disposed and bad Lipo's as I have seen how you keep em in in jar. As I know almost everywhere in the world there is safe place to trow disposed battery's. Well that fail with AA battery which happen to me , happen only once in whole my life , so once in 50 years but it happen. And I never heard from anyone else that he or she experienced same . So very low chance that something can happen, but it is proved it can happen.

tape over the 9V batt terminals, store spent batteries (fire hazard) in a metal can (line it with a plastic bag if you like) until taken to recycling.......

Why dont you do real alcaline disposable Battery recycling? Tear off wasted batteries (the bigger the better), remove plastics and separate the iron coating, manganese oxyde/carbon mixture, and zinc hydroxide into glass containers. Use HCl (Muriatic acid, hidrochloric acid, etc) to react with each compound (adjust quantities). You'll get ferrous chloride, a mixture of manganese chloride+carbon (filter the liquid part to remove the carbon), and zinc chloride (maybe potassium chloride aswell but doesnt matter). Use an aquarium pump to bubble the ferrous chloride so you will get ferric chloride. Use HCl in excess with the manganese. Zinc and iron will release hydrogen and manganese oxyde will release chlorine. Please do it in an open atmosphere. Once you've got the liquid reactive, mix them all three with caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) dissolved in water. Stir and heat up near the boiling point for 30min, then remove the liquid part as soon as possible to prevent rust (at this point what you get is just salt water and it's safe disposable) and mix with waterglass (you can make waterglass or sodium silicate with ease, just follow a YT tutorial), let the black compound sit in propper molds and let it harden (apply a layer of wax or grease because waterglass is sticky). You will get high quality ferrite cores for power transformers.

In poland you can sold used bateries for a equivalent of 0,07-0,08$ per kg. Also many schools give you grades for bringing dead bateries. Also in almost every supermarket we have special bins for dangerous waste.

Really nice work, dude. And I agree, I would rather buy rechargeable batteries than the common ones. Still, I'd rather use lithium batteries... Or even a AC/DC (🤘) power supply always as possible.

Onc I have 2 Duracell batteries that almost empty I build similar device (Dc motor used as fan) One day I let it work for 24 hours and suddenly I heared explostion sound twice It took me a while to understand that this explostions where com from overdischarge Duracell Batteries So be careful
