My mom and I have always used school glue. Elmers white glue. Actually cheaper than hairspray too! Hahaha! Paint the glue on and wait til almost dry and still tacky then paint. Beautiful big cracks. Love how yours turned out though and I have been trying to figure out how to get a finish like the red drawer so thanks a bunch!!!!

Be careful to not overdo the paint strokes. If you go over an area that is cracking, you will be filling up the cracks and will not have any cracks to be seen. There is no need to spray with water.

A no fail method for cracking in to used plain ‘ole School glue. Just replace the hair spray with school glue (white not clear) let it dry just until it’s tacky and pain in one direction. As the glue fully dries, you’ll start to see it crackle.

Awesome. Thanks for the heads up. I was sure there was something better, I just thought people would be interested in seeing whether this would work well or not, and I think I'll try your method next time. I wasn't overly impressed with the results, lol.

When I make my wooden rustic Flags and I want that crack look I use wood glue just let it get tacky and paint right over it when the glue dries the paint will crack try it on a scrap piece of wood you'll see what I mean
