Love the channel! I was wondering if it is possible to make a Y signal splitter without the box. Like, could you just wire a cable so that you could plug into your guitar and two amps directly or would that have the correct power or create ground loops? Hope that made sense and didn't make you go "What the DUCK?" lol
@GuitarQuackery
@GuitarQuackery 7 месяцев назад
You could just have a wireless system. One transmitter and two receivers. No cable, no box.

"...Six One Hundreth of a Millimeter..."? Oh how I LOVE this channel so much. It's O.C.D. Heaven. Heaven! I think it's better to maybe spend a bit less on a new guitar that's "good enough" for you and just bring it to this Diligent Disciple of instrumental perfection and he will surely have it handling in your hands for you as a Top Shelf multi thousand dollar wonder. I'll bet he can make a nice $350 Ibanez AZES40 handle like a $2K+ Prestige level AZES model.

Some guitars do in fact, have the potential in them. I am actually making a neck selection video, as we speak. It is important to know how to select a guitar with a good neck.
@squirelova1815
@squirelova1815 Месяц назад
@@GuitarQuackery Ah yes, a truly important subject. I always look at how straight or centered and uniform the grain is on a new guitar before deciding to keep it. Most everything else can be fixed.
@GuitarQuackery
@GuitarQuackery Месяц назад
@@squirelova1815 Correct. That's one of the details I typically point out to customers. I usually only tell them when the grain is good, to make them feel better that they ended up with a good cut. It also makes more sense to do more work on a guitar that has a good neck (good foundation). So, that's the reason I point out that detail.

@@GuitarQuackery I almost stupidly sold a really nice and feather light 'Jetstream Blue' 2011 Squire Classic Vibe 50's strat with a perfectly Quartersawn Factory neck already on it because my baby daughter "played" on it with her fists and broke a pickup. After I noticed the Perfectly straight neck grain was IDENTICAL to my EVH Special Wolfgang I quiclky changed my mind, upgraded with 920D Custom Shop electronics plus my "Dream" (RWB) Lace Sensors and the Awesome SuperVee BladeRunner bridge and now it is THE LAST guitar I would ever sell for only Food if I had to; Loved as much as my 2013 American Standard.

This particular nut needed lots of work but I'm wondering if you would otherwise consider some nut slot filing as part of a setup?
@GuitarQuackery
@GuitarQuackery 7 месяцев назад
The proper repair would have been a complete replacement of the nut. I did present that as the number one option to the customer. Obviously, there was a price difference in service options. As a general rule, I like to give people options, explain the differences, and have the customers make their own decisions. Fillings are not a good option for this particular issue. There are different kinds of fittings, the famous baking soda and superglue, bone dust, dental composites, etc. I have seen fillings fail. In fact, I already have some video recordings that I could put together into a proper theme video. I also happen to have a vintage Gibson with the chipped nut, that I intend to fill in the interest of preserving the original vintage nut. That Guitar is still in the queue to be worked on and will definitely end up in a video.

Almost every time I lower nut slots on fender style nuts, I get a noisy buzz, particularly A strings. If you just gently touch the string behind the nut, the noise goes away. Is that my filing or my string wrapping? Can you further explain what is happening there? I do not have this issue on Gibson or acoustic style nuts. Thank you!

Are Fender style nuts any different to you than other style nuts? Do you need a specific string wrap for them, or can you use the same style string wrap for all guitars?

@@user-fq6ps8dr3y I do not use the same string wrap on all guitars. Interestingly, this is an issue that I have been planning to document in a video. But everything takes time and I've got a lot on my plate. But the video will come out eventually.

looking forward to the contents of this video. i have the same guitar and while it looks nice and sounds pretty decent when dialed in properly, the playability sucks ass and i wish i hadn't bought this overpriced wannabe fender. i put in locking tuners right away and had the trem "fixed", strings are 10s and soon will be replaced with 11s but you can't get it to stay in tune, like not at all. it's no better than a squier at half the price. fret ends are really bad. i still love how it looks, especially now that the pickguard has aged a bit, it turned darker and a little yellow. if i didn't live rurally i would have sold it a long time ago. bought the guitar in mid 2020, however, it was built in 2018. so it must have sat around the shop for more than 2 years. i was not surprised. i only bought it because i liked the look, wanted a fender, drove 2 hours to the shop and spend 3 hours in there and thought the "professional" setup by the shop's tech would turn it into a solid axe. i was wrong. but oh well. i've come to learn that i don't want a lacquered maple neck, that i want a better and naturally fixed bridge, that i need better frets from the factory and that the strat shape is not the right one for me in the first place. pretty sure i'm going to sell it now but still keen on finding out what this video has to offer ;-)

Sounds like quite a few issues. It’s hard to say why the guitar doesn’t keep in tune, without seeing the guitar in person. It could be the nut, but it could also be a robbery neck.

Uuuuh I left both this video and the American strat video not knowing your final thoughts, are they good? Do you recommend? Is the American worth it over the Mexican strat? Did the American have the scale length issue?
@GuitarQuackery
@GuitarQuackery 2 месяца назад
Good question. My general thoughts on guitars, regardless of make and model, is that they are inconsistent. With some makers, we see significant inconsistencies and with other makers, just minor inconsistencies. Taylor guitars, for example, are very consistent. They only vary a little bit, simply due to the fact that wood by itself is not a consistent material. Fender guitars, on the other hand, are significantly inconsistent, not only due to the fact that they are made out of wood, but also due to the fact that their workers seem to vary in skill levels. I would never recommend, or not recommend, a guitar just based on make and model. Each Guitar needs to be looked at separately. About a year ago, I bought a surplus Squire Strat for $60, at a big retail store in NYC. That Strat is much better than 90% of Fender Strats. It brings me back to my point, that each guitar needs to be evaluated separately, especially Fender guitars.

I would expect to see a nut like that on an $80 guitar, not an $800 guitar. Oh well, I guess if they made them perfect, you would be out of a job.
@GuitarQuackery
@GuitarQuackery 7 месяцев назад
I’ve seen this exact issue on a small percentage of these guitars. I wonder if it is just one factory worker that has the tendency to cut the string slots slanted, perhaps by positioning the guitar too much at an angle.

@GuitarQuackery

@@ErebosGR Yup. They don't seem to be able to keep their own specs tight. Don't even get me started on their signature 9.5" fretboard radius. I'm gonna make a video about that... when I get to it.
