Whether it's a €500,000 CT scanner or a product development engineer looking 5 years into the future, Canyon Bicycles are one of the most disruptive bike companies of the moment.
Earlier this year our Senior Technical Editor, Tom Marvin, headed to their Koblenz headquarters to talk to the people behind the bikes.

I did the same from Canada. No bikes locally so went with Canyon. Very happy so far although I've been warned that any servicing, local bike shops would deny you for not buying locally. I'm certain I can service most items myself going forward and would rather that then relying on a minimum wage employee skimping because I didn't buy the bike from them.

@bonzobanana1
@bonzobanana1 5 лет назад
Quest composites aren't a top quality carbon frame manufacturer, they are mid level at best possibly low level quality. You need to look at the evidence not just swallow the marketing information. It is well known they use quest composites for their carbon frames but their aluminium frames are made by the best frame manufacturer in the business 'Giant'. Giant, Merida and even Fuji-ta (used by Cannondale and many other brands) are all superior carbon frame manufacturers. Giant has both Taiwanese and mainland China production facilities and both are easily better than Quest Composites however Quest Composites are cheap but then look at the production side. People sitting on basic tables and hair caps not worn properly so contaminants can get into the carbon fibre and resin and create a future failure point in the frame or forks. It amazes me people will watch a paid promotion and happily be manipulated. Canyon have many nice bikes though I must admit but I find it annoying people can be so gullible about marketing. www.questcomposite.com/file/photo/17.jpg

Canyon's direct business model is game changing. Bikes are designed in Germany and produced in Taiwan, as expected, but every single bike is shipped to Canyon and CT scanned for quality control. Bikes are pre-assembled and shipped directly to the consumer which lowers the cost. Few other bike manufacturers offer this much value. To keep profits high, Canyon do not offer low end bikes like other companies. Expect to pay $1500 USD for their cheapest (medium-end) AL road bikes. Great video, Bike Radar.

Djd Njddk Yes, definitely considering Giant. For $3700 now, (month ago was $3600) u can get full ultegra/disc Propel Advanced with carbon wheels. It’s bit heavy but aero bike, that looks and rides really good. On flat roads bit extra weight doesn’t make that much difference. I’m in a process of building S-Works Tarmac with R8000 group set, by the time I’m done, will cost me around $5-$6k ( depends what wheels I will go with) and that’s not even latest frame from Specialized ( I’m using frame that has been sitting in my attic for 4 years! Special color 🤓). U can go buy fast bike, ready to go for $3.7 and it’s aero bike as well. I’m questioning my wisdom here?...Just really like my fluorescent red paint, Specialized did in that one year. Cheers!

17:35 "we are offering the customer as many opportunities as possible" - haha, try and change stem length, crank length or anything else on your canyon bike when you buy it. Impossible! Don't get me wrong - I own two canyon bikes and the are great! Look good, well build, great value etc. I bought them both in Koblenz at their headquarter, but even there it wasn't on option to choose a longer stem or shorter cranks or whatever. If there is one thing that canyon doesn't offer, than that's flexibility and opportunities for customers! ;-)

I don't get use to see that kind of handlebar on CANYON gravel bikes. Is very strange, and it has redundant parts that rise the weight. Anyone knows the prupose of that shape?
@peglor
@peglor 5 лет назад
The handlebar allows vertical flex between the front of the bike and the rider's hands. It's a lower maintenance alternative to a suspension fork. Given how unreliable and expensive suspension forks have become, it makes a lot of sense. Sadly the bike industry at the moment seem to only make expensive, maintenance hungry, but effectively disposable suspension forks. Back in the day Marzocchi used to keep the other manufacturers honest, both in terms of pricing and durability by making forks that would run for years with very little minding. Unfortunately they bankrupted themselves by outsourcing badly to China and the other fork manufacturers have been cranking up their prices while reducing their durability ever since.
