Composer: Jerry Goldsmith Performer: The National Philharmonic Orchestra of London Words by: Paul Williams Sung by: Sally Stevens Album: "The Secret of N.I.M.H. OST" 1982 That's Entertainment Records :)
"Is Timmy gonna die?" "No, sweetheart. He's just very sick." "What's the matter with him, Mother?" "Mr. Ages called it pneumonia." "Pneumonia." "When will he get better?" "Soon, I hope."
@@harrystoller4147 absolutely. Pneumonia is actually a very deadly disease, just now that in modern times we have all the tools and medicine to cure it. but back in older times a lot of people died from it, if not the Plague. If not cured Pneumonia almost always leads to death.
As a kid, this brought a tear to my eye because I related it to my mother's wish to protect me. As an adult, this brings a tear to my eye because now I have people I want to protect.
This was a story marketed to children, but written for young adults. One of the things that always drew me back to watch it again is the fact that it never pandered to me. It struck the exact right balance between childish things and adult themes, and never insulted the intelligence of the viewer... even if they happened to be children.
When I was little (4 or5) I had pneumonia and I remember my mom singing to me and giving me soup. It was almost a direct scene from the movie (at least how I remember it). My mom didn’t sing me this song when I was sick but this scene in the movie has a special place in my heart and reminds me of my mom.
Let me say this: I have never seen this film. I have no nostalgic attachment to this music. But good lord, I was so utterly moved by the sheer emotion and beauty of it that I am currently weeping my eyes out as I type this.
Odd as this sounds...when I was a kid, ten or eleven, perhaps, I had a dream that I don't remember at all. But ever since then I can't hear this song without tearing up. It's really the damnedest thing.
Fantastic movie, beautiful song :') I would love to see another Don Bluth film like this (as well as his other films too). Dark movie but has light hearted moments and of course Don Bluths trademark magic touch to his movies and as well that beautiful glittery affect he has in some of his movies when characters usually have an item of some significant importance to the movie. Also RIP Elizabeth Hartman!
*_For those like me who need captions/lyrics:_* Dream by night Wish by day Love begins this way Night's a friend With love to send Each new day Bless your heart Bless your soul Let your dreams come true Future songs And flying dreams Wait for you Love it seems Made flying dreams So heart could soar Heaven sent These wings were meant To prove once more That love is the key As wish As you will Dream of flying stars Love and care The powers there Trust your heart Trust your heart _Sweet dreams, and remember that you are loved. May all your dreams greet you when you wake._
A true tragedy. Elizabeth Hartman was very talented, but as human as anyone. As a tribute to her, Mrs. Brisby is often given Elizabeth as a first name in fan works, etc...
And Now Shannen Dothery Who Did The Voice Of One Of Mrs.Brisby's Oldest Daughters Which Was Teresa Passed Away Also Too Just Like A Few Days Ago Which Was Sometime Last Week And She Was 53 Years Old When She Passed Away Also Again.
This was my best friends favorite movie, this was his and his girlfriend's song. He was one of the kidnest people, a talented artist, and survived as a child during the El Salvador civil war. He passed away today last year today.😭
My baby was born premature, while he was in the NICU I couldn't hold him, all I could do to let him know that his mommy was there was talking, and sing. I sang a lot this song. It's a tune that made me cry as a child, now even more
The soul to this world seems to have changed... it is rare to see love and art for the sake of their own creation and expression anymore... and it is sad
@Excuse my Sass (I know your replying to someone else, I just really want to say this.) I actually don't mind Digital art, I love it even, it's just most shows and movies seems to lack the magic that movies like N.I.M.H. and A Land Before Time had. That's not to say all old movies are better than the new ones, I just wish that there were more movies that took a more artistic approach to storytelling, both visually and musically, Think the storm scene from Bambi or Fantasia, as oppose to something like Teen Titans Go. Again it's not that all the new stuff are bad, I just wish animation had a bit more passion to it. If you've haven't heard of the YT series No Evil, Please do watch an episode or two, it's hand drawn digital art is beautiful (though the first few episodes are not the smoothest animation in the world) and the music is creative and magical, an excellent example of what we could make with our modern media. (Sorry for the word wall, I just love good art)
Everfree personally I much prefer cel animation But that's mostly because of how they used it They used much warmer colors back then, nowadays most animations look "plastic" I also MUCH PREFER the darker stories of the land before time and nimh
Thumbs up if you think this is a better song than "Tomorrow Is a Brand New Day"! And if you think "The Secret of NIMH" is a better movie than "The Rescuers".
Woah. I forgot. Disney did make movies about mice society during the bronze age. Both Rescuers movies were so bland. Great Mouse Detective was okay. Don Bluth's Secret of Nimh is far superior. It is such a good movie. It is one I have loved since childhood and have fond memories of. I do like animated movies about animal testing. It brings up interesting ideas about animal rights as well as biology and psychology. Mice and rats are good animals for the Secret of Nimh. They are one of a humans closest relatives except for primates. They have dexterous front feet, which resemble hands. They are used a lot in labs. There are other animated movies about animal testing. They are also interesting. Another family friendly one is We're Back. That one is pretty good even if it is wierd. Two other ones are Felidae and Plague Dogs. They are mature and graphic, but they are still interesting. Don't watch them unless you know what you're getting into. All these movies about animal testing are good even if they are wierd and scary. Felidae is my favorite animated movie that is adults only.
I love this song. This song carried me so much thru my childhood. Now that as an adult. I just remembered this song and how much it means to me. I still remember all the lyrics even though it's over 20+ years! It will still holds so much more meaning to this day especially now that I have kids.
I'm again four years old and watching this on a cable channel. This is a lovely song, even though nearly thirty years have passed since I first heard it.
A dear friend wanted me to see this movie a few weeks ago, so we watched it together (It's one of the few Don Bluth movies I hadn't seen before), and I completely fell in love with this song. Perhaps because I can relate to it so much! If I ever have children of my own, perhaps this'll be one of the songs I'll sing to them...
Dream by night Wish by day Love begins this way Night's a friend With love to send Each new day Bless your heart Bless your soul Let your dreams come true Future songs And flying dreams Wait for you Love it seems Make flying dreams So heart could soar Heaven meant These wings were sent To prove once more That love is the key As wish As you will Dream of flying stars Love and care The powers there Trust your heart Trust your heart
I have this thing.. where I vaguely remember a movie.. I remember many of the scenes and characters in my mind. and I don't remember the whole storyline.. yet, this still makes me cry.
I had discovered this precious gem of an OST was added to all streaming services this year, and now it is no longer available on any of them. All we got now is this old RU-vid playlist. Hopefully this changes in the weeks to come.
when i was a child I exhausted my vhs of Secret of Nimh for this song, I am both so happy but yet to jealous of the generation after. bless you, bless you all. i hope for nothing but the best for all of you.

This vvas one of my first movies i ever savv. Today i savv it again and it came out from some forgotten memory. It vvas so beautiful and vvith Goldsmith music especially! But novv i can really say, i knovv vvhat changed me in childhood into crazy psycho person :D especially the scenes of testing on ratts in NIMH. Ou shit man, i should´t see this vvhen i vvas five :D
One of the most tender scenes in the movie, for me. Seeing it again, in later years I could really see the gentle love of a mother for her ailing son. My heart went out to poor Timothy, too!
Still struggle to tell the difference between Sally Stevens (Secret of NIMH) and Shelby Flint (The Rescuers). I swear it’s just “The animated mouse movie singing lady”
@gabsis11 REPLACE KEYWORD "download" BY "buy" I can't force you, nor will I, but you should try buying more than downloading copyrighted content. The OST is on iTunes ("The Secret of Nimh (Original Soundtrack)") for 9.99$, and if you only want one song, they're 0.99$ each. Just buy a iTunes gift card and buy the song. Just try thinking about new young artists who want to sell their albums or small companies trying to sell a program. If everyone illegally gets their work, they can't live.
