This peice has always had a very intense emotional response as a child, and even now as am adult... Especially the part when the necklace leaps out of the mud. ...Its just so beautiful...
3:14 That has got to be the first song that made me full on cry in a long time. That song only just amplifies the awesomeness of the whole story. The movie is like "And now for the grand finally!" Then they blow you away.They show you the ending climax with the redone version of the theme music that helps you recap the whole movie. This story is legendary!
It's so gloomy in the beggining but then it becomes so triumphant in the end. I whole heartidly agree with Mr. Goldsmith, this was one of his best scores.
man no once catches a break in this scene, the society has just lost their leader and is in distress; Mrs. Brisby's family is drowning and they can't save them. I wonder what was going through Justin's head as he was potentially taking her away from her dying children :(
It's terrible to think about, really. There was nothing that could be done to save her children and she would have died attempting to do so, so Justin's actions are well justified. Sometimes I find it interesting to think about what would have happened if the stone wasn't there.
I didn't fully make the connection until fairly recently, but I was very small when I first saw "The Secret of NIMH." The music entranced me. Mr. Goldsmith was a favorite composer right from the start with me. This piece is still one of my favorites.
This whole scene fascinates me when watching the movie. And at 00:53. I can't emphasize how amazingly frantic the music feels at that moment, especially with the children crying out for their mother moments before. And I will give Justin and the rats credit, they tried their hardest to save the block. It was a beautiful scene filled with incredible teamwork.
Great scene! You feel Mrs. Brisby's and Justin's panic and then the amulet's magic takes over with Nicodemus's great line, and Brisby discovers more courage and strength through it that she probably never thought she could have otherwise (if she hadn't been so entranced).
Many dislike this last scene, but personally (even though it is somewhat far-fetched) I think it's amazing, the moment of this song that starts in 2:28 made it just so special and unique.

When I watched this I thought there was no way the kids survived. There couldn’t have been. I didn’t want to think of it, but it was completely submerged. Maybe the kids found an air pocket or the amulet revived them. But I didn’t think about that as a kid. I just thought they’d drowned.
