In 1962 my family drove into Bodie via Cottonwood Canyon with a '58 Ford station wagon towing a brand new 15' Santa Fe trailer. My father had looked at a map, and decided that route was shorter, but what he didn't know was it was not at all maintained. It soon became impossible to turn around, and the road was just two ruts, washed-out in places. The road today was vastly improved when mining interests started to explore east of Bodie Bluff about 30 years ago. Anyway, my father was having fits, and it was a long, harrowing trip. But when we saw Bodie in the distance, which your video brought back to me, we were entranced. In those days there was no parking, we just pulled onto Main Street and parked. A storm blew in, so my father was eager to get out of there, and we took the familiar route to 395, though it was not paved then, and was badly washboarded in many places. We visited many times over the years, and my brother and I explored these roads with his truck. I love that area, and though I doubt I'll ever see it again at this late date, your video brought back a lot of memories. Thanks so much!
