Thank you Knorr for making the filming of this video possible! Yay! We love our Nasi Lemak with Salted Egg Yolk Fried Chicken - it's such a lovely twist from the usual same old same old boring fried chicken. I think you will like it.
We know most people only add coconut milk, salt and pandan leaves to make coconut rice but Roland added lemongrass to the rice which really made the rice even more fragrant. You really got to try it. Super yummy!
His chilli for this nasi lemak was also almost perfect for us but don't take my word for it - try it and let me know what you think.
Last but not least, what's nasi lemak if we don't have eggs and anchovies. Whether you're a fan of sunny side or hard-boiled egg - make it your own way to suit your preference. Also, do make sure your anchovies are super crispy when you serve them.

Ingredients

Serves 4 pax
----------------------------
Salted Egg Fried Chicken Wings
==============
(A) Marinated Chicken
-----
6 X chicken wings
1 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of light soy sauce
A few dashes of white pepper
Some cornflour (to coat marinated wings)
(B) Salted Egg Sauce
-----
Some cooking oil
40g of unsalted butter
5 cloves of chopped garlic
3 pieces of bird's eye chilli (optional)
A small handful of curry leaves
3 tablespoons of Knorr Salted Egg Powder
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of sugar
----------------------------
Nasi Lemak (Coconut Rice)
==============
320g of Thai jasmine rice
300ml of water
220ml of coconut milk
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 stalk of lemongrass (use only the white stem)
5 - 6 pieces of pandan leaves
----------------------------
Nasi Lemak Sambal Chilli
==============
Ingredients (A) - blend into a fine paste
----
25 pieces of dried chilli - rehydrated
1 stalk of lemongrass (use only the white stem)
1 whole red onion
8 pieces of shallots
4 cloves of garlic
20g of dried shrimps - rehydrated
10g of dried anchovies (dried fried to crispy)
Some cooking oil
Ingredients (B)
----
1/2 cup (125ml) of oil
20g of belacan - dry roasted
1 teaspoon of tamarind paste
40g of palm sugar (can use white or brown sugar)
2/3 cup (170ml) of dried shrimp soaking liquid
----------------------------
Other ingredients
==============
4 X eggs
100g of dried anchovies
------------------
Note: you can either use 2/3 cup or 1 cup of tap water to soak the dried shrimp.

I love how you explain every detail (from adding oil so butter doesn’t burn to not turning heat down before chicken is ready)... very thorough with your directions which makes all the difference as I did not know these small details. @Jim Kay ..Not sure if you have Malaysian shops in Perth but we got them in Sydney. I’m in Thailand right now. I’m gonna hit up the street vendors to try and find something similar to this recipe (as I know it’s a Malaysian/Indonesian style dish from the word nasi being used) ...I’m officially starving after watching this 😝....I hope I can find this salted egg powder here in Thailand aswell 😂... good to see so many aussies on this channel , we all have a love for Asian food culture and countries.. ✌🏽🇦🇺👍🏽.

Roland, you have brought some serious asian cooking into my home here in Australia. I have so much fun, watching you and then trying to find the products you used and then , of course, trying to cook it!!!! Ive been all over Perth today trying to find this salted egg powder, but, alas, its just not availble. I did however find salted egg PASTE! Have you got any idea if this would work? One more thing, why do you double fry the chicken? Very interesting. Im being lazy I guess and thinking I can fry it all in one go!!!!

hey Roland, what oil do you use for deep frying? This looks great, when I used a olive oil mix to deep fry the pork chop recipe for fried rice the oil emitted fumes probably reached the smoke point , thanks!

Oh my, wonderful post! I will be on the hunt for the dried egg yolk powder and anchovies 👍🏼 Excuse my lack of knowledge but I notice you often use rehydrated red chilies....is there a reason to use these chillies instead of fresh chilies?

Hi Marika. We have tried fresh red chilli initially but we didn’t like the raw taste of chilli so we changed the recipe to only include dried chilli. Hope this helps.

Just saw this. Agreed w him that this food is so common here n everywhere. But nothing Beats home cooked n salted eggs chicken wings are refreshing. A lot of work into this dish. Do you do home delivery? Lolx. It will take sometime for me to get this cooking.

Looks awesome, very tasty! However, the salted egg powder is NOT MSG free. True, they didn't add straight msg, but there are a few other high-glutamate containing ingredients.

FYI, the salted egg yolk powder is made with chicken eggs and not with duck eggs (original salted egg). Taste wise is different.

Hi Pauline 🤓🤓 you can store the chilli paste in the fridge. It should be good for about a week or two. As for Ikan bilis, you can store them in an airtight container. They will last as long as your keropok. At our home, it doesn’t last 15 mins cos we finished them all in a sniff 🤣🤣🤣
