Secret Shopper scam. USPS Money Order scam. BEWARE

This is a totally new video that is NOT like any of my other video's. My wife got a fake check from a scam company trying to steal our identity. This is simply a warning video to others out there. I am tagging it with hopes that others see how real the fake money order from the United States Postal Service is. I'll be back later today with a gun video and range video coming tomorrow.

I dont have a job so I did apply for a Mystery shopper job. The thing was. Why would someone give you money when you haven't worked.

I received one of these today and I am taking it to the FBI tomorrow. The guy that contacted me by email was not the guy that sent me the money order, and the money order has a different name yet. The guy that has been contacting me by email is already lighting up my email box about the funds. As soon as I take it to the FBI, I am going to send him their contact info if he wants it back. That should be great fun! Thank you for posting this for everyone to see. My son is an Investigator for the Federal Govt. and it was his advice to go to the FBI initially. Thankfully, we have a field office here in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area.

This is a awesome video and I believe you are spot on. But I have never been asked to complete my money order at the Post Office. If they require you do that, you should know they don't require that everywhere. I live in Missouri. I have lived in Cali, Nevada, Utah, and Alaska and have never been required to do so there.

This may not be identity theft but it is definitely a scam. The deal is, you send the money Western Union and a week later, the counterfeit comes back to your bank and removes the money from your account. You cannot recall the money order because the recipient has already claimed it. When you look up the address on Google Earth, the exact address doesn't even exist. A vacant lot, usually. So be careful. Verify it online or ask your Post Office to verify it. Either way, get the Postal Inspector involved.

Thanks for posting. I just got one in the mail. I signed up for a "Secret Shoppper" want ad on Craigslist and got the SAME kind of Priority Mail envelope. Inside was a so-called Post Office Money Order with instructions to cash or deposit, take $150 and send the rest to another address via Western Union (the total amount was about $971). What alerted me was #1) The instructions said "Don't tell the bank teller your identity" because I was a "secret shopper". But my name and home address was written on the money order!! How could I be not reveal my identity with my name plastered right on the money order?? & #2) I'm a graphic artist and prepress specialist, and although it was a GOOD fake, I KNOW some of what to look for and some of the printed elements on the money order didn't look right to me. So I took it to my local post office. The lady thought it was a fake & told me to go to another P.O. and show the supervisor. So I did and when I showed it to her, her eyes got big and she said, "It's fake." I said "How could you tell?" She said, "I can't tell you how, but if you cash that you'll be in trouble". I said OK, thanks. BEWARE PEOPLE. THERE'S SOME REAL SCAMMERS OUT THERE!!!

When you go to The Postal Service to make a money order no matter what amount it is they do not make you fill out the part who you are and who you are sending it to for the simple fact that is personal business and does not concern the post office

This is good info. If anyone suspects they have a fake money order just take it to your local Post Office. They can verify through their computer system if it is a valid money order. Since this comes through the US mail, the correct entity to contact is the US Postal Inspectors. Go to USPS.com scroll to the bottom and click on Postal Inspectors. it will take you to their link and resources to act on this. Please keep all of the envelopes to send to them.

I just received this same scam... I got it for 933.50... going to the FBI with it, the money order looks so real... but what got my attention is the security features... they were too bold to noticeable which its not suppose to be ... Like the silver strip with the letters on it reversed each time... that wasn't the case for this. Those letters inside USPS is suppose to be visible only with a black light.. Be careful... Great Video... Keep making these...

Cashed two of these last week. My bank told me one is real one is fake and now i am held accountable. Funny enough I received EIGHT more today. Absolutely awful...I received them all for the exact amount you stated $933.50 each.... I did receive an email back from the apparent James Morgan "HR" guy stating that they will rectify this issue in 24 hours or less....he still had the nerve to tell me to "complete my second assignment" and I replied with many profanities. My bank account is under review for fraud and I am to pay the one that is fake back...I feel so stupid for not reading up on this.....a colleague told me about it and I am now thinking their email account was hacked as this is absolutely someone who would never do something like this to myself or her. Thank you for your post. I am heartbroken and financially ruined at the moment. Best of luck to anyone and everyone who has experienced this. Sometimes things are way too good to be true but this is just awful. I am going to the police as well and should go to FBI too.

My Wife got one today. They are using USPS Postal Money Order. Says it came from a Raymond Sullivan in Tampa and letter covers the same kind of info & request. It looks real MO & my wife was going to a bank tomorrow. My wife's been a secret shopper too. Thanks for posting video. From googling it seems they change some stuff around, but after t years they are still using same scam scenario and I'm sure it works enough to make it worth their while. BTW - some others have comments on same version of letter that we got.

1. Did you, in fact, take the money order to a post office to check its legitimacy? I'd take it to the FBI to see what they have to say about it. 2. If the government was interested in prosecuting this type of crime, they would go to the recipient's address to catch the scammers. I'm not sure why they are not interested in catching postal fraud or credit card fraud because in both cases, it would be easy to catch the perps taking possession of stolen goods.

It`s not just about identity theft. You will overdraw your bank account. I used to work at a bank and we had tons of letters like that. People deposited these checks to accounts and A MONTH letter, these checks come backs as NSF, but people already used this money....or you will get NSF fee from the bank. Also as soon as you deposit this check to your bank account the owner of this scam check will know your account # and after some time money start to disappear from you bank account. Good video!

The difference between the fake and the real "gilded strip" is that the real has a reflective metallic strip with a sort of rainbow, multicolored reflection that has to be made with a laser. The fake is just what's called a silver "foil stamp". Unless you're a print professional, you won't tell the difference. Also, the real reflective strip actually goes in and out of the paper pulp itself. The fake is just a metallic silver-colored foil stamp that's pressed on top of the paper. You have to put it under a loupe or magnifying glass to tell. And real money and money orders like this type are printed with a process called "gravure printing", which is sort of like an engraving. With real gravure printing the ink has a raised tactile feel. You can feel the printed lines. With commercial offset printing, you can't fell anything. The ink just soaks into the paper. The fake I got was offset printing. Also with real money orders and checks, the account and serial numbers are printed with a magnetic ink that electronic readers can read. I doubt the fake was magnetic ink. Just some things to look for...

Please take these money orders including envelopes and any correspondence to your local Post Office where they can be given to Postal Inspectors. Postal Inspectors are the Federal Agency that deals with fraud through the mail. Also, if you look at the stripe on the money orders you will see that the stripe on the real money order is embedded (like it is in money), whereas the fake ones have the metallic stripe printed on top. Also hold the money order up to the light, the real ones have a watermark on them. The fake ones, have a "print" on them in it's place that cannot be seen from the back side. There are so many security features that a Postal Clerk looks at, if in doubt, take it to your Post Office ALWAYS. That's what we are there for. Also, in a lot of the "scammer" envelopes (not ALL) the printed address label will have double names (yours didn't I noticed). The from will say John Doe, then second line john doe..... in the TO it will say Jane Doe next line jane doe. Also a lot is the zip code on the "from" will not be the zip code of "mailing" (yours posted was). The mailing zip is at the top right under where it says Commercial base pricing.

I got one of these yesterday & yes, if it seems too good to be true, it usually is. Being out of work, most of us go to job sites like Career Builder, Snag a job, etc. Everytime I post my resume, I get spammed to death. The e-mail I got was from CareerBuilder & I checked the details to make sure it was from there. Mine was from a guy named Robert Borger, the address is a Restaurant in Long Beach, CA. I was planning to go to the Post Office & have this checked out.

I got two of these envelopes in the mail today, one had four money orders each at $980 - two were addressed to me and the other two were for another lady. The other envelope had a cashier's check for $3775.00 made out to me. Both had letters instructing me to deposit them, one day to clear and then deduct my fee and send the rest via money gram to Manila Philippines. I knew right out the gate this was a total scam and I will be doing the same as far as turning everything over to my local FBI office. You are absolutely right though, they went above and beyond to make these damn things look as authentic as possible - it's scary. My adoptive grandmother was almost scammed a couple years ago but we caught it thank goodness before they could do anything. There is a special place in hell for these people.

The "gilding" on the fake looks like a printed foil vs. the strip on the real money order which is actually woven through the paper and holographic (you should see it on the back). There should be water marks on the money order too. That's pretty elaborate. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the video , it did help me notice that the silver strip is definitely fake as a real one is more holographic in nature . Guess I'll be making a phone call too at this point also .

Hey I got one in the mail too! It was for 1,000 dollars and it was filled in with my name. I am glad you put this video on youtube! I felt funny cause the letter said to deposit money order into my acct. I was thinking why? why cant I just cash it and do it that way> Then I said to myself, why would they send me so much when I was only suppose to earn 150.00? it felt funny so this video helped me decide before going to the bank. Thanks for your help

Ours was "from Jim Fox, 145o Johns Lake Rd" - Google maps shows it is a Wal Mart! And it was for $960.00. We're people of faith, and my discernment alarm was going off big-time; so we checked it out, and the discrepancies w/ the address tipped us off. The, a Google search had several sites showing this as a scam.

I wish I had seen this video before last week. I got one in the mail and followed the instructions. Now I am out 975.00 and the bounced check fee. I am with mystery shoppers and thought it was real. It looked just like the one you just showed and I didnt know who to report the scam to, now I know. Thanks.

received one in mail for mystery shopper, once I read assignments I knew it was a scam, I knew they never have you send money to a third party. I too will be getting into contact with the authorities.

Thank you for this video.. I am a secret shopper and this looked very suspicious to me. After I did not cash or deposit the first Priority Mail with two money order. The scammers send me three money order via FedEx.. They are really desperate. I received an email from the scamming mystery shopper asking if I received the money order. I returned the email stating I am going to the Postal Inspectors.. Again thank you for this video to confirm my thoughts.

I am not shock to see this video, however thank you for posting this! I did receive a fake postal money order in the mail, and I then look online to see if in fact this was real. I came across your posting :) God Is Good!! I've been looking for some part-time work due to my disability, and was very up-set to see people wanting and willing to scam innocence. It makes me sick to my stomach; my money order looked so real it was hard to believe it wasn't. Therefore, I thank God for your input and taking the time to help others :)

I too have dealt with these scams. They also mail them in a Express envelope. The company it came from is called "First Class Books" they're out of Arkansas. The company itself isn't involved it's some other party that is doing the scam. Your best bet also would be to get in touch with the Postal Inspector. I hope this helps.

Thanks for doing this video. I received a money order today and thought it could be real, I guess wishful thinking because I'm unemployed and really could use a check like this. So tempting but I knew it was too good to be true.

Good for you for bring this to our attention to see. I have seen this about six months ago. A friend got one and one and he received one. He was instructed to take envelope and all to the Post Master General in his town. Yes they look real until I saw the difference.

Yeah I got this exact same USPS money order in the mail. A person using the name Smith Johnson randomly emailed me a few weeks ago using the e -mail title 'Department of Jobs', notifying me that there was a secret shopper position available. All I had to do was give them my basic info- my name, address and phone number to be accepted. I was very skeptical the entire time, but they accepted me and sent me the exact same money order in your video, several days later. Mines was for 950.00.

Right on for not cashing the check and responding to their threats to notify the authorities by counter-threatening to expose all of the scammers' information.

I had this happen to me, but the check I got was for $970.00. I was just smart enough not to deposit it and then when I didn't they emailed me and told me if I tried to steal their money it would be illegal. I responded back to go ahead and notify authorities and tell them I will give them all of your information and that was the last I heard from them.

Just wanted to say thank you for having this video. Today my husband received a similar situation in the mail. In fact with the exception of the letter content wording, darn near identical. Thankfully he did not fall victim to this scam and drag me along as well. We are taking ours to the Post Office and turning it over to them as I am certain by now they have proper handeling procedures for this situaiton. Very Grateful and you saved our identity.

He keeps talking about having his Identity Stolen???? That is NOT THE ISSUE!! If Anyone takes one of these so called USPS Money Order Checks to their Bank to Cash, Your Bank Will STEAL YOUR MONEY RIGHT OUT OF YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT, and IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH IN YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT TO COVER THE CHECK, YOU WILL BE CHARGED/BILLED FOR THE REMAINDER!! THAT is the Issue Here.....NOT IDENTITY THEFT!!

Yes, that's true...the bank gives you the money.. then later finds out the money orders are counterfeit, then you take the penalty and have to pay back the money. The person or persons who sent it gets their money and are living happily as you pay for their deceit! !!!!!

Thank God for your information. This would have been devastating to me. All I was interested in was making a little extra money because I'm disabled and living on a shoe string budget. I was so excited. Couldn't wait to get started. Mine came from a walmart email. I received a check today for 2,179 $. From first financial bank in Abilene Texas. This is a certified check. I get to spend 50$ shopping 200$ for my commission and the rest I send western union to the Philippines. I would have been suicidal over a devastating loss such as this. So thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

dang they sent you a big one lol and yes the only thing the are after is the money that they ask you to send and then you are left to pay all of it back out of your own money a long time ago Wells Fargo was being hit pretty good and choose not to share that with their customers never give your bank any thing to anyone or even give it to what you might think is a letter from the bank always go through the way you do to the bank not through a letter you might get in your email and never never never give out your pin number i don't care if the president asks you for it never give it to anyone. and believe me when i say no one gets shit like they offer for nothing and the something you do get is you get to be broke nothing is for free! nothing if that easy its definitely a sign of how so many are suffering still and all that are in need! we all know you never get paid for a job you havent even done and those mystery shopping jobs they want you to spend your own money then you will be paid back in about a months time now who can afford that lol

This is still going on. I just got a money order from Bank of the West and it looks legit as all hell. Also this guy has my cell phone number and has sent me at least 3 messages with an email to boot. Don't have the email anymore from the spam folder auto deleting it or I just killed it outright from the thing looking like spam about a week or so ago sadly. But this is starting to scare me a bit and plan on making a visit to my local attorney general ASAP. Things to look for that I noticed in my case. 1- Using different names. The letter, money order + return address on the package, and cell messages all use their own name. 2- The address is real from looking it up on google maps and is someones home but the homes owner is nowhere near the same as the rest according to yellow pages. 3- Looking up the phone number in the letter is a mobile phone. 4- The letter looks like it is from a school. Has been hit with a 3 hole punch like paper for a school binder and has a page number in the bottom middle center of the page. Thanks for the video. I more or less already knew that this was a scam but this video confirmed it for me. Still scary as hell though with someone being able to know my email, cell number, and home address.

Couple suggestions.. If you hold a real USPS money order up to a light. You should see the Benjamin Franklin watermark on the left side.. You should not be able to see this water mark away from the light.. Also, the silver ribbon part. When you hold a real USPS money order up to a light, that silver ribbon should look solid.. For more instructions on how to spot a fake USPS money order, you can google "usps money order verification"

Thanks for posting this. I had an inkling it was a scam, and that's why I didn't spend the money...because now I owe it back to the bank plus a fine. (only $25 for stupidity, so I'm not mad about that) but I will close my account on Monday. Thank you for making this video.
