Andy, our very Existence as individuals is defined by our experience. That's all knowledge is. It's saved data in our brain matter from the sensory inputs. Emotional experiences & spiritual experiences are the same thing just divided in name only because of the context of the experience. Poeple can and do delude themselves into constructing claims about reality that are only subjective to them.

And sometimes those articulated realities fall far enough outside the socially accepted norms & are defined as psychological disorders... Other times they are allowed to be considered personal experience because they fall within the category of "religion". You probably would say to a Hindu who claims vishnu visited them in a vision & said "they were being accepted as another God after death".... As at best, deluded or lying or even possessed. Right? But how is that any different than the personal claims of poeple within christiandom?
