Very surprised that this soap still had organ music as late as 1971!! Some soaps debuted with orchestral music. Like Days Of Our Lives, Dark Shadows, One Life To Live, All My Children, and a few others I would imagine.
if' I'm not mistaken, 'Another World/Somerset' was the last show to premiere with live organ music - just as 'Dark Shadows' was the last show to start off in black & white..and btw, SS was the first show, in the summer of 1972, to drop its organ..this is when Carey Gold came in with his keyboards: piano, harpsichord and moog synthesizer - ATWT was next late in 1973..and of course, the musician's strike in May 1974 killed the organ for all east coast soaps..GH, done on the west coast, was not affected and did not drop its organ until it expanded to 45m in July 1976........
@@dannyhill8797 Wow!! You know so much!! Now here in 2019 there are only 4 soaps left. Too sad. I don't watch any of them. The Young And The Restless did a major cast purge in '78, '79, or '80 when the Brooks sisters were just about totally gotten rid of. Then that tramp Nikki Reed came on board. She got V.D. (now called an STD) from a toilet seat. Her sister Dr Casey Reed was pretty. Better lookin' than Nikki. Then ugly Victor Newman joined the cast. I always thought he was creepy lookin' and ugly!! And stilted, uptight. No personality. The Abbotts I found less repugnant. I never watched General Hospital. Used to watch Days Of Our Lives. It's totally different than when I used to watch it in the mid-70's. Etc, etc, etc. Oh, well.
the other shows expanding to one hour didn't bother me; but for some reason Y&R bored me, so I stopped watching very shortly thereafter.. I remember more from once upon a time than I do today..no longer that interesting..and as soon as GH is canceled, that'll be it for me..the other three haven't interested me in a VERY long time.....
Right around 1973 is when Storm finally went to a non-organ theme. It was the same theme from 1971 but without the organ. I believe that it was piano and harpsichord.
Not suprising. The organ music in soaps especially the proctor and gamble owned were used as late as 1973. The full orchestra's took over. As far as l am concerned it changed them forever.
SFT, AW, EoN, GL and Somerset were still using the organ at the time of the musician's strike in '74..AW, Somerset and EoN had switched to orchestral themes by this time; so it seems the transition away from the organ had already begun.....
