Secret Whiskey Compartment

This Entertainment Unit is my 10th video and is made from New Guinea Rosewood for the cabinet and very old Australian Red Cedar for the tambour slats.
I used canvas backing on the tambour which worked out extremely well.
The tambour door opens in two stages through a hidden key revealing a hidden drinks compartment.
The cabinet is 1450mm x 550mm high and 375mm deep.
For those who watched my previous chessboard video, I did start to make the base and drawers, but I got distracted by tambour on RU-vid. Which happens apparently!

Very nice piece. The key made sense but I was wondering why you needed to access it from the front. Then I was wondering about that wasted space between the support and the rounded end and you didn't disappoint with your surprise. I really like the detail of the dovetail with the miter too. I'm designing a credenza for a future build and was thinking dovetails but was wavering toward miters to get the look from the front I wanted. Now I realized, why not both! Thanks for the video!

I have been waiting patiently for your next build and it was well worth the wait! Your techniques and "work-arounds" are outstanding and inspirational! Filming angles and your witty banter are a win also. The sound of chiseling is music to my ears. I often listen to ASMR videos of shop noise just to battle my tinnitus when falling asleep or during nap time...(yep, I said it, I', old enough to start taking naps again 🤪) Nice table saw trick for the finger pull on the handle and I was wondering how you were going to get the tambour door in after you had already glued up the cabinet. I learned a lot in this video! Muscle Pete is a good man! Happy wife, happy life! The cabinet is gorgeous! Cheers to the hidden Cognac compartment! One last thing...How did you fix getting the tambour door all the way in since the slot that you cut didn't work out at first?
@onehandedmaker
@onehandedmaker 7 месяцев назад
Hey Mike, Good to hear from you way over in the USA and thanks for checking out my latest creation. Love your comment and the need for a nap now and then, just hard to get to sleep when I'm dreaming up the next build! Well,.. the tambour slot, THE TAMBOUR SLOT! I just cut out a chunk of timber, top and bottom then made up an infill bit which was screwed in to fill the gap. I learned tambour only bends in one direction! Loving your channel content bye the way. Regards James
