BTW, KC's dad wasn't just an AF Academy grad living in San Jose. He was also the *mayor* of San Jose. And a good one at that. But I can not imagine the challenge of raising two boys while both parents are actively serving. Props to Kim and Scott for somehow pulling it off, and to the Air Force for being a cooperative partner.

As gal who went through two academies during a 35 year career, and who retired at equivalent rank to KC, I can only say I have nothing but respect for everyone that has the drive and commitment to follow their dreams. Like KC and Ward I had to deal with that 'try again another time' letter when transitioning to my second career and know the feeling of finally convincing the arbiters of selection that you'll do them proud, if only you get given the chance. I'll very much look forward to reading KC's book. To anyone out there wondering if your dream is for you after getting one of 'those' letters stick to your guns and your gut, persistence really does pay off.

I worked with an A-10 Driver from OSD at the PNT, she took no crap and I always enjoyed watching her come off the top rope on unsuspecting fools. Her favorite comeback was “ I killed jokers with my A-10, what the hell did you do?”. One of the most beautiful women and she loved Airborne Infantry, we’d follow her anywhere.

I'm always a fan-boi for Col. Campbell. Even though I'm probably not in what could be called the "Target Audience" I still have the book on the way to my house. As an A-10 Crew chief for the last 3 years of a 22 year career, I found Col. Campbell to be a one of those top-notch individuals that stand out in my mind looking back at my career. I retired as an E-6 from the Dragons in 2013 at Davis Monthan AFB. I really had a ball crewing the A-10's there for my last 3 years in the USAF and got to meet a lot of great folks there.

So cool - she's a bad ass. It's amazing that she and her husband were able to do all the things they've done. My dad was kicked out of Naval ROTC in college because they found out he got married and in the late 40s early 50s that wasn't acceptable. Dad's passed but mom is still alive, in her 90s, and we often talk about how different our lives would have been if he hadn't been kicked out. Glad the services have come around now and they realize family and service can co-exist.

Outstanding interview with an outstanding hero... not only for her obvious skills as an officer and pilot... but I am even more impressed and admire what she was and is able to accomplish with her hero husband keeping their family together. Frankly, being able to preserve their family unit while in their career paths is more heroic than if she had shot down a Flanker getting back to her base while flying in "manual reversion" that fateful day in Iraq.

The fact she was able to pull out out of herself repeatedly under tough circumstances and not whither when circumstances were pushing her limits is a testimonial to what’s possible. She leads by example and shows us all what persistence can do. Such a fine human, woman, officer and pilot. Makes me feel better about our country and about myself because she’s a motivator. We’re lucky to have such fine people among us and in our military. She’s simply great. Mooch is the best interviewer I know of on military matters. It’s an episode I don’t don forget. I remember when the shuttle that blew up , I was 19 , I had just met my mother for the first time ; it was a bad time for me personally . It is good that you got into aviation and became a CAS pilot , the A10 is a great plane with lots of redundant systems . I guess nobody does anything alone , you have to have the right mom, right dad , right school , right everything to get into military aviation or really , do anything . I had lots of trouble with airsickness - found out a rubber band on my wrist worked ( that’s when I was training for commercial aviation ) getting my ticket was an uphill battle , everything from air sickness to student loans but I didn’t get started till way late due to things that get in your way- sick family member ( brother ) and just crap jobs ( aviation training is not cheep ) but yea got my instructor ticket in spite of zero sponsorship and then my eyes went bad… I have seen the A10 up close at air shows be great to fly one of those … cool vid So I guess you fly commercial now , you are an ATP ?

Another outstanding interview with a fantastic role model. The story about Col Campbell's experience of the Challenger disaster as a ten-year-old is particularly telling. In more recent years, my experience is that many parents are far too prone to shielding or sheltering their children from such realities of life -- and death. All part of the risk-averse trend that, to my mind, has resulted in children having far fewer freedoms than I and my peers had as a children and teenagers in the 1970s into the early '80s. I can't help but feel that it results in a certain level of stunting of their development, and can leave them less prepared for the realities of adult life.

Reality has a habit of biting people in the a**. The developing geopolitical situation will challenge and straighten out a lot of people, when sheer survival is on the line.

Director of Character & Leadership Development? Is there any way we can turn that into a Cabinet level position for the country? Kim Campbell would be ideal for that role. What a communicator. She is exactly the type of adult role model that middle schoolers and high school kids need to encounter.

I had just gotten my driver's license less than a moth before (December 30). I had a free period and so planned to drive home from school and I got there just in time to see it on TV.

Great video/interview again, to keep it in military aviation terms, you are an ace Mr. Carroll. There is not a single video I didn't enjoy. Thank you for inspiring generations of aviators to come!
