Secrets Of A Professional Pot Smuggler: A Rare Glimpse Into The Underworld Of Drug Trafficking

Steve James learned the power of money at a young age. In rural Georgia during the 1950s he discovered the basics of business by watching his grandfather hustle ranchers for cattle. He took these lessons and applied them to crime. By the age of 13 he was smuggling in pot from Panama and became the main distributer in his town. He continued scaling his business which eventually led to him trafficking seeds from Afghanistan and starting the first indica grows on the island of Jamaica. He's here to tell us all about his life story; crime, addiction, betrayal and a federal case that landed him the crosshairs of the FBI.

This is my father-in-law. Such a great man. He’s as much of the gangster as he seems. People don’t have a clue at how important his role in the game really was. He was a great dealer, but an even better father-in-law and grandfather to his grandkids. He dropped one obsession for another. From kingpin to family man in one lifetime. He’s a legend. ❤

He's far from the first person to grow Indica in Jamaica. Famously, the indentured Indian labourers from the 19th century took their Indian ganja cultivars with them to the West Indies, which were by definition Indica.
@jzkramer
@jzkramer 2 месяца назад
As such, most of the sativa from Jamaica started off as indica 100 yrs ago, before acclimating and taking on sativa characteristics

You are correct!! I am from Trinidad and Tobago, born in the 1950's. Weed was sold in shop when l was a child, the Hindu pundits smoked ganja during prayers, and the indentured Indians on the sugar estates smoked weed before and atfter the days work on the sugar plantations here in the West lndies. That is my knowledge of weed in the Caribbean.

Racism IS bullshit! It's still been the justification & normalization of an economic caste system US has followed since the 17thC. .This BS, an economic system/business model, was made into law & protected by politicians, churches & culture. N GA was definitely a racist piece of shit area. Lol- still today the Kkk are trying to "adopt a highway" and now have resorted to using language to describe themselves from the very Civil Rights movement whose supporters they beat, tortured, murdered, r@ped, bombed & burned to stop.

@mattnsac
@mattnsac 3 месяца назад
Everything is longer with sativa. The only thing better about sativa is the high assuming you want to function. More water, needs more light, more flowering time, spindly buds... its the reason it got hybridized.

Sativa gets tall AF!! I grew a mango haze couple years back. I live in northern Michigan....not your ideal location for sativa dominant at all!! It lasted till November 1st until it started snowing. Wasn't quite to the maturity I wanted but surprisingly most the leaves were still green and no mold. I like the uplifting effects of sativa but unfortunately It is just not worth trying to grow up here unless you got a greenhouse or indoor grow.

This worldwide distribution of genetics is a double edged sword ..... On one hand it increased efficiency by lowering flower times and encouraged interesting crosses .... On the other hand ...... It very quickly facilitated the dilution and oftentimes even the extinction of unique sativa landrace genetics that were isolated for thousands of years. One can only wonder what special and extraordinary traits have been lost forever due to the obliteration of landrace varietals of so many equatorial sativas

his story about crack reminds me of my own addiction to alcohol. I remember when I was really on a bender time would just fly by like you were literally teleporting. Luckily I never got worse than like 3-4 days and that's when I was really bad. The extended blackout benders were kind of few and far between but really culminations of stress in my life. So mostly it would just be a 1 day teleport, where I would wake up all like oh my god I blacked out so bad I no called no showed work, personal friends and family are calling me, I have texts and messenger messages all stacked up. That's the hardest part about being sober if you are an alcoholic/drug addict etc just how much time there really is in a day and how boring most days in regular life truly are.

One of the best of this channel’s interviews for sure. Listened to it twice now. Can’t get enough of this guy and his story. Dude was doing crime, but clearly was in it for the money… with morals/rules that kept him from many of the more modern downfalls of the former younger guests. Also love the interplay between southern culture and his success. “Yeah, he sells pot. He’s not hurting anybody.” Dude seems like a good guy doing things outside the federal law. Sounds pretty southern to me! Haha

this dude is from that same golden era of pot/hash dealers and smugglers like Howard Marks rip. they made a movie about Howard called Mr. Nice but the book by the same name and another one called "book of dope stories". Gireat books for anyone thats ever been in the game or finds in interesting. great episode!

Yeah great book , also there's one about the hippie Mafia smuggling dope into USA in 70s .. sure he was apart of it ..called smuggler by Richard Stratton .. great read .. or ..Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts .. big book about drug smuggling in India .. he escaped prison in Aussie in 70s , came to NZ (no passports between Aussie ,NZ, till early 80s) then from NZ to India via NZ merchant ship , we had biggest merchant navy in Southern hemisphere at that point .. hence we were drug paradise back in 70s ,,

You have to read Mr nice a few times as he's up to so much you lose track , , just like Shantaram.. H Marks also wrote a book about smuggling E's as well ..

Drives me crazy how you can have a podcast about illegal activities but you leave out the cuss words, just let it ride

You can’t monetize curse words but you can Monetize a “Story” that some old man is telling. It’s pretty wack

I think that helps the algorithm to be able to go to everyone. Broadening potential audience. Kind of like blurring out someone smoking a blunt

Canadian boy here, used to take trips down to St Pete’s beach with my family growing up and one year this guy and I started chalking it up talking and he told me “ya back in the 70s you would just find bales of weed out in the gulf and you would get your buddy with a boat and go scoop one or two up”. Wonder how many people were running d0pe like that around that time?… 57:38

I currently live in Saint Petersburg. Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale. He's telling the truth. Each is on opposite coast and it was pretty frequent. Most times it was water logged and it be sea weed. Also would find in the Everglades dropped from plans. Less frequent. Definitely lots of growing up down there and Spring break
