This was great! We are going in a couple of months & decided on AMA Waterways after watching you interview Judy Nickerson. We look forward to your video on Jordan as we too are taking the pre trip there. Super job!

I've read some bad reviews about the food on the Ama Dahlia. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks

The cuisine and food on AmaDahlia is ok but not memorable. If you are trying to compare it to the fare on AmaWaterways and other river cruise lines in Europe you will come away disappointed. The other thing we noticed somewhat with regard to the food and service quality was the language barrier with the Egyptian servers sometimes for example getting one’s point across on how you may like your meat done. The crew and staff go out of their way to please but it does get difficult now and then. Long story short, the food is fine, just don’t go expecting five star dining. I think folks that complain are a result of expectations of the same food quality and dining experiences from European river cruises and that at the end of the day is not a fair comparison.

Hi. Thx for these videos! We are looking to book this trip for late ‘24 or early ‘25. Quick question: we’d like to spend the full day (day 2) at the Egyptian Museum vs only the morning and skip the mosque. Can we work with AMA to adjust our times? Understand the larger group would do the planned afternoon activity. Thx! Jeff

Hi Jeff you are right about this one could spend days at the museum. There are two issues or concerns with this. The first one is you would need to arrange transportation back to the hotel at the end of the day. You can likely arrange either a taxi or private pick up. It's not going to be walking distance back to your hotel which bring up the second concern. The guides that were with us were not keen on folks wandering alone in Cairo for your personal safety. (Egypt takes the security of its tourists very seriously as we were a large group we had armed security and armed mobile escorts when traveling by bus to the various places in Cairo) We also witnessed our guide giving advice to a couple looking to go off on their own, and being kind of ok with it specifically because this couple looked like locals and therefore would not be harassed. But just spending a day at the museum and grabbing a ride straight back to the hotel should be just fine. The best thing to do would be to arrange this your cruise manager prior to arriving in Egypt. Or checking with them the first evening that you arrive in Cairo.

I’m leaving on the November 21 Sailing! Thank you so much for your video. I’m going solo but I’m sure I won’t be “alone”! Were there different levels of walking tours? I’m 75 and not in bad shape, but not the best! How was the food? Again, I thoroughly enjoyed the video!

Hi Kathy you are going to have a great time. No you will not be alone there is great camaraderie on board. There are not different levels of walking tours but for the most part the walks are not long but the ground can be uneven so make sure you bring good waking shoes. If you are concerned about a particular tour you can always check with you guide before hand. Now as far as being 75 thats just a number we saw quite a number of folks that were 75 plus. November is a good time it should cooler. The food was on board was good and in particular the fish dishes were great. The food at the hotels and restaurants was superb. Most of the food has an Egyptian flair but they do have some American stye options at dinner on board each day. Only thing that was fair was a box lunch they packed for that day we went to Abu Simbel, ( no time to stop at real restaurant) but there is only so much you can do with a box lunch as they have to be careful with the heat and storage.

Hey Ken. I’ve read a ton of comments on the AmaDahlia and most are less than favorable. In particular, is it with paying a Lot more for a French Balcony given the limited amount of time you spend in your cabin? Secondly, what the best location for peace and quiet given the diesel engines the run all night?I’ve heard mid-ships and lower is better. Thoughts? Thx as always!! Jeff

Hi Jeff. We found the AmaDahlia to be a wonderful the ship, staterooms and common areas are immaculate. What is the general gist of the negative comments you have read? I have some thoughts about that. As far as paying the extra cash for a french balcony. Definitely worth it for two reasons number one it's a great place to escape the heat of the top deck, you can lay back and chill on top of your bed and watch the world go by outside which there is lots of time to do. Second reason is it gets you above the waterline with a great view there is lots to see including interacting with the villagers along the river and the ones that come alongside the ship as you sail selling their wares (great fun). We were in a Cat B cabin midships just above the waterline and loved it. No engine noise whatsoever and based on the ships deck plan I don't think any room would give you an issue with noise. The engines don't make that much noise as an example we interviewed some to the crew on the Al Fresco deck while sailing and engine noise even there was not an issue.
