Thank you for making this real. A lot of outdoor information is often given "in a vacuum", almost to the point of psychosis. I've been a fairly rugged outdoor guy most of my life, but too much psychotic information can make people scared to step outside their door unless they have some special $5,000 Swiss fanny pack for survival.😁
Ya I got a woods Coogan great little hawk light weight but the geometry is well done on it and it actually can split limb chop even fine carving, your breakdown on your blackpowder kit is really intriguing man I'd love to see more videos on that
I carry a little more in my minimum kit but every environment is different. I always have a usgi poncho and a casualty blanket but shade is super important where I live. I also carry 1 or 2 water bottles but water is hard to find where I live. Taylor your needs to your location.
The real mountain man competition would be a run like Coulters run. Naked with no food or supplies - from 50 miles away to fort Laramie. Just found your channel, good pack but i'm not so keen on the black powder smoke wagons - perhaps I should reconsider - Cheers from Taos - just up the road from Kit's place.
Cool loadout! You got it dialed in light. Helikon tex makes a rain poncho which can be used as an emergency shelter add a woobie and you will stay warm. I enjoyed the video but have a little trouble seeing your gear loadout clearly in the black and white. Looking foward to the next video!
Thank you for the heads up about Helikon Tex. I checked them out this morning and they have some nice looking gear. I am going to be shooting in color for my future videos so that things can be more easily identified. Thanks for watching!
👍👍👍 Good video! I like the way you do things all self reliant, self sustaining and do it yourself! I am the same way! I reload my old 45 colt and double barrel 12 shotgun with black powder. A lot of times you can find good old style gear at the Native American powwows here in Fl. I cast my own shot, cut wads and make my primers with (acetone) nail polish remover and strike anywhere match heads or use toy caps. I tried the military when I was in my late teens and early 20's and i never liked it or the POS M16, 9mm or any of the crappy semiautomatic jamming weapons. I never left my first love of the old western tools my grandfather and dad raised me using. Like my old single action colt navy 45, lever action Winchester, Bowie knife and Seminole tomahawk! I also practice Archery as well! I come from a long line of Florida and Texas cowboys, trackers & woodsman! That tracker is an awesome knife been carrying one on my bag for years since I seen it on that Hunted show with Tommy Lee Jones. I had to have one! I carry mine as #2 blade on my bag strap with a ferro rod and liter knot wood shavings in the small pouch. I got my old buckskin leather 12"X14" haversack my mom made me when I was around 12 years old. I just finished mink oiling it yesterday! I use the lifestraw or Sawyer filter for my water. But I always carry a 32oz canteen with metal cup for transporting water. They drill that in your mind in the service when your in the Desert! God bless you and keep up the good work!
Yeah, when I watched the hunted and saw that knife I had to have one as well. Making primers with kiddo caps is how I started as well. I found this company here in Colorado that makes this stuff called Prime-all and use that with a bit of acetone nowadays. Has made things a lot easier with the percussion cap process. Glad to meet another black powder advocate! Thanks for watching and I really appreciate the comment. Really makes me excited to make more videos knowing people are appreciating them!
I love the fact that you carry 1851’s. I myself love old black powder firearms. Why did you choose the brass frames as opposed to steel? I love the content so please keep ‘em coming. Until your next adventure…..
Man, I really like that idea. I am a huge knife advocate but it’s important to be able to get along without one in case you lose it or are caught out without one. Thanks for the great comment and suggestion!
Such good information!! keep up the good work. I love your style, can’t wait to see what you have stored for the future. I’ll be following you on your RU-vid journey.
Just stumbled upon your RU-vid channel and immediately subscribed.. I just recently got into black powder shooting . I really need to practice Got a 50 cal hawkin replica and a Remington 1858 44 cal.. this will be fun..
Greetings from louisiana once again I was just wondering why in your 1851s you only fill 18 grains by measure I'm a carrier of an 1851 myself and I use 30 grains by measure and please do you lube and patch videos also I think you should make a why you should carry a knife into the woods video I have several friends who don't think half the gear you carry is needed and your load out is almost item for item with mine lol
Wow, I might question their experience in the wild. My load out comes from decades of having carried everything from over abundance to too little. I will definitely make a video on why carrying a knife is a must in the bush. I use the 18 grains because of my last batch of black powder being so damn awesome that when I bumped up it started changing my groupings. So 18 grains seems to give that perfect group and power. That changes with each batch of BP I make though. Luckily I made near 10lbs of the stuff this last run and will have it for a while to come. Lube and patch video coming soon to. Love the comments man. Thanks!
@@rm3rockymountainmysticman109 thank I kinda thought it was because of a difference between your personal powder and commercial as I said I run 30 grains which is suggested for targets and 35 is for actual shooting so thanks for the info and keep making videos love the content
@@rm3rockymountainmysticman109 hey, I’m good with that ! but what is the reason why you carry a black powder revolvers ? What advantages do you see in carrying those things as opposed to a Glock or smith and Wesson ?
@@concernedpatriot.2221 I have modern weapons as well. But I love black powder weapons. I make my own black powder, my own percussion caps, I make my own lead round balls. They are completely self sufficient weapons unlike my modern ones that can be subject to ammo shortages. My black powder weapons are not affected by ammo shortages unless I am to lazy to make it myself. Luckily that day has yet to present itself. I am an annoyingly motivated individual. Don't get me wrong. I love my SW40ve and my Taurus .38 and carry those concealed when heading into the city. But for wilderness travel my black powder guns are my go to’s. They have a lot of stopping power and between the two of them on my hip I have 10 rounds at the ready for highly accurate self defense. Which is more than enough. Also my black powder can last for decades if needed and is only subject to getting wet and needing to be dried out. Unlike modern rounds that have a definite shelf life on reliability. Thanks for asking!
