Hi Mate This is 'normally' and indication that one of the door locks has not achieved the fully locked position on its foirst attempt so the car (not capable of moving just one of the door locks) opens them and gives it a couple more goes. 1) as always is your battery strong? (car battery not key fob battery) 2) Lubicate the door lock mechanisms. 3) Suspect the microswitches in your door locks are dirty or broken 4) Suspect. the central locking solenoids have failed or become weak

What year is your XK8? I recently had a similar problem with my XKR's key fob, and it turns out that the entire fob was no longer working, even with a new battery. I ended up having to replace it, but since I have a 2001 with a different design of key fob and asymmetric buttons, I bought a cheap new aftermarket key fob for Fords, swapped the electronics over, and after going through the same reprogramming procedure here, it works just fine. However I'm not sure if the electronics are different for European models, so I would defer to advice from European Jaguar forums if they say otherwise.

Are you able to lock the car with its key ?

Hi. Thanks for watching. I covered this a few times in various answers in quite a lot of detail previously so apologies for not answering in full but. a) You are correct the=at the cross sectional area remains almost constant throughout the 'squish range'😁. b) Gas flow is however, dramatically reduced when a curve is involved as the gas has weight and momentum. (think of a dog taking a sharp turn on a tiled floor. The Gas runs to the outside of the curve and is not uniformly distributed across the cross section. A squished tail pipe (like fish tail pipes on an type) you can get away with .,but an overall pipe with a squish is massively compromised. Wouldn't mind seeing the video in question though 👍

Hi everyone, I found the fault. The battery on the car needed charging, once this was done the car started to respond to both my fobs immediately and there was no need for reprogramming. Hope this helps.

To The Garage I’ve replaced all the batteries including the car battery to no joy.

To The Garage Thanks for getting back to me. Fobs are clean. I tried reprogramming but car would not respond to fobs. No chirp or red lights. 😢

hi Al Kaput You are correct in that The tube does not get smaller and unless you go very extreme the cross sectional area remains constant. However. Mathematical 2 dimensional area is not the same as flow rate. To compare a circlular pipe to a squashed pipe of exactly the same cross sectional area. We would need to calculate and compare their Hydraulic diameters ‘Dh’. By doing this the flattened jag pipe comes out around 70% as effective at flowing gas as the round pipe before we add in additional losses for gas friction and with the changes in section. I’ve pasted the below example from Wikipedia in case this calc is useful for others. If we take a circular pipe and compress it in one direction between two flat plates, it distorts to form a shape that is often called a ‘racetrack’ (more like Indianapolis than Spa!), similar to the profile of the pressed sections we have discussed. Whilst we would all accept that the internal cross-sectional area of the pipe remains pretty constant, the effective flow area does not behave as such. For regular polygons (equal sides and angles), the hydraulic diameter is taken to be the diameter of a circle inscribed inside the wetted perimeter of the section. For other irregular sections there is a (thankfully simple) formula to allow us to calculate this: Dh = 4A/P where: Dh = hydraulic diameter A = measured cross-sectional area of the duct in question P = wetted perimeter of the duct Let us work through a trivial example of a circular tube of 50 mm inside diameter and compare this to rectangular section duct with an aspect ratio of 2:1 of the same area. The cross-sectional area in both cases is 1963 mm2. We can therefore calculate that the sides of the rectangle are 31.33 mm x 62.66 mm. The perimeter of the rectangular section is 2 x (31.33 + 62.66 mm) = 188 mm. The hydraulic diameter is then 41.76 mm, which is only 83.5% of the diameter of a circular pipe of the same cross-sectional area. We can make an estimate of flow-losses from textbooks on fluid flow due to this decreased equivalent diameter. It should be noted that this effect is not always negative, and irregular cross-sections have been used to control and mitigate the effects of other flow phenomena…. Thanks for watching Al Kaput👍

Fob reprogramming? It should do yes. But I have to say I have. not tried it as I have never owned an S type (Yet😁)
