I just seen Cameo in Vegas a couple weeks ago and they opened with Alligator woman and I was like ' I know they are not about to do secrets of time'. They didn't but the concert was an A+.
saw the same show. they sounded fantastic. larry was not at the meet and greet after the show, but i chatted it up with anthony lockett and tomi jenkins- both super nice guys
saw these guys 3 weeks ago in vegas.. sounded fantastic.. talked with tomi jenkins after the show.. great guy.. i asked him about this song.. said he wrote it thinking about the future..... great song by one of the best bands of all time.. in any musical genre

this song brings tears to my eyes for some reason. Love this . The chords capture the sound of sorry lost in secrets of time. What we know and don't share and what we miss when we don't care to ask about the wisdom of others.
Cameo, for some reason, had an uncanny knack of recording songs that were so short but Larry Blackmon was a genius and must have stuck to the philosophy of great things come in small amounts!
they don't get enough credit in mainsrteam America!!!! this song alone shows just how deep they could be with the pen.!! Also in many of their songs the elements of jazz is always present, real band!!!!

Back in the day I had a Hommie who slowed this down on his turntable and recorded it and it literally changed the whole vibe of this jam. The intro became even more haunting and eerie and the guitar solo and vocal harmonies towards the end would actually move your soul!! Mind U we were smoking skunk weed and sipping 40’s and he had a state of the art sound system crammed in a 5.0 mustang!! Damn those 80’s were the days!
in 1982 when this was released on vinyl it was on the chocolate city records label one of their last for Casablanca before going to their own Atlanta Artists record label THANKS FOR posting this,it always seemed like a longer song which got cut off for some reason

"BLACK Bands" Rarely get remembered for songs with conscious themes. Using EWF as the go to example for versatility isn't enough. It diminishes our creative history. Many are surprised when they hear a Black recording artist say they weren't "allowed" or were discouraged from "writing them deep songs". Now... not every non commercial song produced is on the level of Angelou, Dunbar or Baldwin. But with such a rich culture of revolutionary literature you'd think we'd highlight our conscious side more. This short tune is followed by "I Owe it All to You" on the album. The two songs closing the album are speaking simple truths. Not necessarily deep. But they leave you in a better place of hope and gratitude.
I was never a lover of ballads. As a kid when playing the records I use to always skip over the ballads and played all the funk songs only but this song really grabbed me back then. Does anyone know if it's Charles Singleton on vocals.
