I wish you were in the UK.... You could educate our car dealers in how to properly explain car functions. Thank you for an excellent video, it is very much appreciated👍👌👏
Hi Peter, I'm glad to see that you did this tutorial based on my question earlier, but I'm still wondering if you can keep the auto high beam setting in the "on" position even after you have turned the vehicle off. As I said, I find that I need to turn them on every time I get into the vehicle.
Yeah, that's the way they work. I'm not sure why it's set up like that, I can make a case for why they would, but I could also make the case for why they should do it as you suggest. At the end of the day, this is how they decided to make them work, and my job is to do my best to explain it.
Just a little more details for anyone interested, who may have not used an auto highbeam system before. Most auto high beam systems are controlled by the camera in your rear view mirror. Meaning the car generally has to be equipped with the lane keep assist and other driving features so camera is installed. Then you turn on high beams and high beams will stay on until the camera senses an oncoming light from another car, or even sometimes your own highbeams reflected back due to a road sign. But the camera senses the light and automatically dims them. Once the light passes it will turn them back to high beam. The feature isn't new, but turning it on or off is different for most manufacturers. It's nice to have. And works similar to how any light sensing feature works to auto dim things like your cell phone screen when it dims or brightness based on the light it senses.
I will go-see if you have done a video on cruise, cruise assist, etc.. today I tried to engage cruise, and just got a flashing indicator. I even tried turning it off, and re-engaging. No luck. ??? 2022 Kona Ultimate with Cruise-assist and stuff.
Thanks Peter. Very informative! Is it possible to change normal, halogen fog light bulbs into LED ones? My Kia Sportage 2021 EX Premium comes with LED headlights and halogen fog lights and I was wondering if I could swap those fog lights bulbs into LED ones. Thanks!
This feature is the only one I disable as it doesn't yet have the precision yet to work properly. I tried to stick with it but so many people ended up flashing me (because they thought I was flashing them) that I ended up disabling it entirely.
Your average sales rep knows almost none of the stuff this guy teaches. They can tell you how many tires the car has, how to adjust the steering wheel, and all the stuff you already know!
Hello Peter, another great video thank you. However, can you tell me or point me to one of your videos that show how I can set my door locks so that all of my door locks open at the same time? I have a self-charging Hybrid Niro 4 (top of the range here in the UK. Many thanks. Keith
Go to your SETTINGS menu using your steering wheel controls, then look for DOOR, then it should say something in there about 1 press unlock or something like that. I don't have that vehicle near me right now. But that menu should get you what you need in order to have the entire vehicle unlock on one press from the remote, or one tap on the driver's door button.
Hi Peter, been a fan for a while and like your videos. Can you do a Kia class regarding the auto rain sensing wipers? I guess the rotating part on the stalk is meant to increase or decrease sensitivity, but it seems to do this on its own anyway, which sometimes leads to full speed wipers in a light drizzle...
That's a great idea. I've made a note of it... give me up to a month... I may want to mix that with colder weather, but I'll do that. In short, yes the slide switch can speed it up and slow it down, but I understand your confusion, and it'll be easier to explain in a video.
@@BrantfordKia OK, I am confused too, so will have another look. At the moment, my auto rain sensor system works perfectly.... did not know there was an adjustment, other than that lever which I thought controlled intermitted... so much to learn on this new car. LOL AND, the owner's manual has SO MANY PAGES of great detail. lol
I thought my headlights were on Auto, but the high beam didn't activate on the dark road this morning. So I pushed the signal lever, and high beam activated, but did not automatically dim. I will check for that AUTO dash indicator, to see if it comes on. 2022 Kona Ultimate I leave the switch on AUTO all the time. The headlights and tail lights activated when the car was started in the dark 6am.
So I threw a cover over the windshield sensor to replicate darkness. I leave Headlights on AUTO. I had to push the signal lever forward to activate Auto Dimming, and upon shutdown and restart, I had to re-activate the Auto Dimming... Should it not maintain that setting as Default? Interesting and Annoying, as I would generally use that, or Turn It Off. This morning, I did push the Signal Lever to activate the Auto Dimming, but I may have played with the Signal Lever too often and turned off the Auto Dim, and left the High-beams on Manual ? I need to experiment tomorrow morning, 6am coffee time. :-)
This is such an unnecessarily complicated system. To me it’s a huge design oversight that the regular headlights option isn’t just next to the “auto” option so you can just toggle between the two without turning you lights completely off or bright lighting someone. It’s so counter intuitive to have a dial set to “auto” but then also have to activate that function with an entirely separate input and have to do it every time you turn the car on.
How can a person deactivate the Auto Fold Mirrors on the Kia 2015 Optima? I like to keep the mirrors open in the winter because of ice buildup that may damage the motor when frozen as they try to open..
I am sorry I am still confused . I was told to keep them in auto mode which I think I would prefer . Problem is I thought the light alerts would only go on at night not in the day . Also when I leave on auto mode and turn off the car the light alerts are still lit up and I worry what if I leave on and drain battery ?
On the Kia Niro you can go in the settings and actually cancel the auto beam completely as well. So you can leave you car in auto lights. I just wish Kia would learn from European car makers and put the lights on when it’s raining and the wipers are running a constant sweep when in auto. In rain on motorways in the day sometimes it’s light enough for the auto lights not to come in, but due to spray it’s better to have the lights on. This is how the best cars from Europe do it, constant wipe in auto and lights come on!
My 2022 Sportage may have this feature but not sure. My head lights turn on in the day time, sun shining, for about forty two seconds and then turn off. This is constant, Been in and out of dealer for 3 months. If my SUV has this, it has put me in potential dangerous situations that almost caused an accident. Switch. sensor and junction box have been replaced. Still a problem. Could you help me before a potential fatal accident that no one knows how to fix.
I have a 2022 Sportage Nightfall and I cannot find a video to reset my oil maintenance light. I had oil changed and it wasn’t reset How do I reset Thank You
I changed my high beam on my Kia forte, 2021 and the one on the driver side does not work. I just got the car two months ago. It’s too expensive to take it to the dealership and I’m on a fixed income. Can you please help me
I had this function in my previous Kia forte S 2019, I traded it for a Kia Forte GT 2022 and it doesn't have it😔😔 I've been trying to use it and it's not there😡
Love the Seltos in black 🖤 wish I got mine in black, damned needing a car and shortages :( also watching this I forgot it wasn't a live video 🤣 .. also my Seltos even in the off position the lights do turn on anyway of it's dark or you go under a tunnel or shady enough ... Is there something wrong with it then?
The headlights shouldn't turn on unless they're set to auto (or on) it's possible that your daytime running lights are bright enough to make you feel like you have some light? I'm not sure.
@@BrantfordKia no, the green lights come on in the dash cluster .. weird .... I will bring it up at the oil change appointment 🤷♀️ although if it's normal I'm not that mad about it I was just curious
@@mimisulte1505 The green lights turn on to show you that your headlights have turned on. So that would be normal if your headlight switch is set to Auto.
in the auto high beam mode is there any indication when lights are in high beam mode? does the blue head light icon light up as it does when in pplaced manully in high beam mode?
The AUTO feature also turns off automatically when you shut the engine off, and it needs to be reset every time you start the vehicle. At least, that is how mine works (2022 Tucson).
If I turn off the auto headlights (ie, turn the switch beyond "auto" to just on/off, I lose the automatic adjusting headlight aiming, including left/right as I steer. '17 Sportage SX.
Yes, that's correct. AUTO allows those functions to work on your car, and vehicles like the Stingers that come equipped with that, but if you turn it to full ON, then you lose the ability for the "bending lights"
@@gordol66 The 2017 SX-T here should have the projector lights that move. The way to tell is to start it up with the lights on AUTO and shining against a building. See if the headlights do a quick rise, and side to side check. It will be obvious if they do that. If it doesn't move, you'll know.
I have a new Santa Cruz limited. Why on earth wouldn’t that auto highbeam stay on whenever the lights are on? Very strange behavior. My previous car was just as it says, automatic. Having to remember to turn this feature on sort of defeats the purpose of automatic…
I don't design the cars, but in this case, I think this is a better system than always having them on. They work very well, but there are times that I don't need or want the high beams on as often as possible. I hear what your saying, but I think you might be in the minority on this as we get a lot of compliments about how well this system words, and how our customers like it as is.
@@BrantfordKia Understood. The vehicle I am talking about is a Lincoln Corsair that my wife now drives. You can turn the feature off but it just simply works perfectly without any input.
I have a Toyota prius with the auto highbeam. And what happens is is have regular headlights, then if I push the stick forward into traditional high beam... it will turn them on, but the camera in the mirror sees lights from ahead or reflected back at me from a road sign and it senses enough light it automatically turns them down to low beam. There's a button by my knee to turn on and off auto highbeams. But late night drives down the country roads I drive on is a really nice feature.
You are talking about the Default setting? I have my light switch set on AUTO and leave it there. Now I need to learn how the High Beam function works with that. 2022Kona Ultimate. It is like the Idle Stop, every time I start the car, Idle Stop is activated, and I have to push the button to turn it OFF. Very annoying. Same with Lane Assist, Default is off, Every time I start the car, also annoying.
It's just SO fucking stupid. My wife has been trying to figure out how to use this feature for the last three months and honestly I'm not sure this is going to help her. Again, because it's SO stupid.
