The Supreme Court was horrible wrong with citizens United, obortions. The clean water act. And many more decisions. All these need to be challenged again.

Screw disclosure forms. These ghouls don't care that their corruption has been exposed. There needs to be real consequences!

They are commiting federal crimes. They should be prosecuted, jailed, fined, and disbarred.

I'm from Maryland and clean water is a necessary thing for us. We need to hold the supreme court accountable that is a crime against humanity because it is harming all humans by endangering our water system. We should also hold the criminals that are polluting from manufactures accountable, death penalty, offense piracy, crimes against humanity.

The justices should not only disclose, but RECUSE themselves since impartiality is compromised. I hate that every branch is hopelessly politicized and corrupt.

It's true, people may understand corruption, but they feel helpless to do anything about it. It seems so big, untouchable, so the shoulders shrug and life goes on...especially for the corrupt. Judges need a ethics committee and be held accountable for bad decisions. Judges should be for laws and justice, not political

Why is it that it was 2 right-wing justices that could not see that the gifts and trips they received were dubious when this didn't happen with the left-wing justices? These 2 justices are highly educated but lacking in scruples and character.

I've taken the ethics training for the federal government. It doesn't matter when they knew met the justices, you can't take that kind of gifts, it's illegal. Why can't we just convict them for the graft and sentence them without removing them. I'd rather have and six, seven or eight seat court while their asses sit in jail than have a corrupt court.

Hey guys , we in Australia can't get our heads around how you can expect objective justice , when politicians elect judges....it just can't work. Judges need to be appointed by virtue of extensive experience and review by their non partisan piers. Any evidence of prior " questionable or subjective" behaviour excludes their appointment further up the ladder. This generally works.

We should stop using the term “conservative” when referring to the six radical, activist justices. There’s nothing conservative about those justices who operate on a radical agenda.

Why not arrange huge protests with tens or hundreds of thousands of people outside the Supreme Court?

There are 16 districts in the country now. The last time we added justices was when we only had 9 districts and appointed justices to represent each district. We have room to appoint 7 justices to the bench and the president has the authority and power to recommend judges to be appointed and they can be appointed at any time during their tenure as president! What are we waiting for! If we don’t act now we will be left behind by the political instability of the only prosecuted former president who attempted an insurrection against our democracy! How can his nominations be allowed to continue in the position? The justices that were appointed by a political enemy of the Constitution should not be allowed to be the person who appointed the highest judicial body in America to represent the nation he tried to destroy and turn our nation into an authoritarian dictatorship! The Supreme Court justices who were appointed by the largest security threat our country has ever faced,to continue to rule over our values and freedoms! The fact that they were associated with and supported the criminal individual who appointed them is all the evidence that we require to suspect them as political implants that have no intent of protecting the constitution and our citizens! Our government is the most incompetent and dangerous government in history that has no knowledge of what their responsibilities are and how to implement their policies to ensure that the people will be protected and prosper without fear of persecution! The government has only one responsibility and that’s to represent the people and their wellbeing in life! The government officials have no idea what the political process is for any of the institutions! It seems as they just make up policy as they go with no consistent plan to make our economy and public safety more efficient than it was previously! The government is completely impotent and has no way to provide the necessary resources for the public! Laws need to be changed so that the government can make improvements to the nation and improve our society! The laws need to be made to ensure proper governance and education in government institutions and the people are the ones who will vote for the laws that govern us, not those who are able to benefit from or deceive the public!

Probably the only solution to the court's ethical dilemma is adding more judges who have consciences and are, at some level, connected to the will of the majority.

Nearly an hour of unequivocal clarity. This goes in my pantheon of instructional devices. As a teacher in a vocational high school, I had 16-year-old students already living on their own as single moms, juggling work, school and child-rearing. That speaks volumes, but I'll restrain myself; this is your show...please do it again, both of you, together.

Not only do we need "rules" we need enforcement of these rules by INDEPENDENT investigators, NOT appointed by the courts, congress or the Senate. We need a "grand jury" for ALL of the "elected and appointed" officials that oversees their bribes, I mean campaign donations, as well as full disclosure of their financial investments and overseas interests, including bank accounts.

Even poorly paid teachers cannot receive gifts /must report anything over $250. Change must happen. 😢

Yes they are suppose to avoid the impression of impropriety not just the actual thing. We have a need for them to be held to a higher standard.

Clarence Thomas has been reputed to very seldom ask questions of those presenting their cases. He never needed to ask questions as his vote had already been bought. Asking questions may get him answers that he doesn't want to hear.

Alito forgets there is a division between church & state. I want to reverse Citizen’s United, Roe, & Clean Water Act, etc. Expand the court make Alito & Thomas the minority VOTE BLUE IN EVERY STATE & FEDERAL ELECTION

Politicians need to run on court reform and ending gerrymandering. Ethics reform and term limits are the place to start for SCOTUS. I think court packing is a questionable strategy personally. With term limits, Thomas would be out already.

To me, this has been an essential conversation. Please, I feel a need for something more specific that we, as believers in democracy, can DO. How do we advocate for ourselves as we look at our front doors and wonder, "OK, what now?" The Supreme Court does seem untouchable to regular folks.

The fact that they are hiding it, tells you that there is something more to it than just giving a free trip or helping out a friend. They owe something to that person because of these gifts, and the gifts that they are getting are coming from big corporations, like the National rifle org. No wonder they don't want to do anything to stop people, children, being murdered by guns and rifles. Too much money involved.

John Roberts is a nibbler, he takes peoples right in small bites that people don't notice. He is also the richest member of the court. His wife is a talent scout for the high power law firms in DC that pay her millions and always have business before the court.

We need to take away judicial review. They will just have to hear every case and not be able to reject ALL cases because they say this goes against the Constitution so all cases are dismissed.

We will not get change as long as the wealthy chose those people we vote into office. We need ballot initiative for rank choice voting to be on the ballot in every State and Territory. That one thing would make it so cost prohibited for the wealthy to control or maintain control over the election process...

Such an informative interview. As I keep saying, the fact that judges are appointed according to party affiliations is ridiculous. The only master they should be serving is justice, and not a political party.

Congress has the right to complete checks and balances…on the executive and judicial branches… Roberts is wrong.

Ms Lithwick, I run across these people who take pride in telling me how things cannot be done. I turn to them and say, don't tell me how it cannot be done, tell me how it can be done. These people who say how it cannot be done are like pest on a good day.

Why can't we sue the supreme court.and they needs term limits

We need more than disclosure enforcement we need them to not be allowed to take bribes and a way to enforce that.

The public DOES have a right to ask. We are suppose to be an open democratic society with a transparent government that only keeps secrets in matters of national security. Someone needs to put these judges back in their place
