Don’t know why people are complaining about the pay honestly. Being a security guard requires minimal effort. What more do you want for an easy job. Warehouse workers make the same and they do a bunch of labor. And as far as people saying “ you just do 8 hours behind a desk and get your guard card, no type of training whatsoever” well you should have the decency to train on your off time when you can. I train muay Thai and BJJ just Incase my fatass has to use it in a situation. You should also be working on your 100m sprints Incase you need to chase a motherfucker. Look, being a security guard may not be the best, but it’s a stepping stone to becoming a CO and eventually a cop if you want it. You have to grind with anything you do at life to make it a career. And as far as training , I know a lot of cops that just train at the academy and never train after again, that’s very unprofessional, keep your body right , train for any situation, and stop bitching . Thank you
This might be the best positive reinforced comment to kill all negative comments. I wouldn't say all security jobs are easy depending on what it is and what/who you have to deal with. But everything else, I couldn't agree more. I never get why people who complain about or make fun of security would use 11 minutes of their life watching my video.
I have to disagree with you due to the fact that in my experience as a security officer/guard we have a lot of responsibility and our lives are in danger just from wearing the uniform. Like i tell ppl all the time "everyone makes fun of us until they getting their ass whooped and need us!"
Like some of the other comments, it does depend on where you're posted. I'm at a post thay feels like free money, but there are some I know of which should be paid more at the same place. The supervisor, who has actual responsibilities it's only a dollar more for the job. In the most tedious job which is Patrol, gets the same as me who just sits and basically watches RU-vid while I wait for something to happen
Some good tips, some bad tips ... I can't recommend getting on your phone. Check it once in a while ok, but not for killing time. A lot of places are zero tolerance. Maintaining a positive attitude is key. Get up, walk around. Do push ups and jumping jacks. But don't watch movies and stuff. Keep your eyes on the prize, always. Shit can go bad real quick. Aside from my rant, I appreciate your honesty and applaud your efforts. All the best.
Well you shouldn't be on your phone because I work in some high risk areas where we have armed guards and everything and one officer was a armed guard at a spin and win which is like a mini Casino she sat down ate her food and had her phone in her face and not aware and next thing you know she had a gun in her face and a person taking her phone so I suggest just staying off your phone for personal safety you need to keep your head on a swivel and paying attention to what's going on
I did that for 12 yrs. It all comes down to management, pay and the contract. I had "chill" contracts. I was able to set my laptop next to the monitors and watch both. Also, I did my crafts while on duty...........................especially at nights. I had a great system going and when you know your site, shift and clientelle, you can get a lot of personal business done without it affecting your job at all. The biggest mistake guards will make when they want to sleep on duty, is to go off and hide somewhere and sleep. Yeah, the camera won't catch you sleeping; but, they guards forget the most obvious: THE CAMERA WILL CATCH YOU MISSING FROM YOUR POST!!!
I'm considering something like night security. Honestly, I want an easy, no stress job. Which companies pay the most? $17/hr wouldn't be bad. There is one company that hires for $24/hour, but it's out in the elements, 12 hour shifts 6-7 days a week. Very strict. Good money, but I think I would get tired of that pretty quick.
1. Make sure your post orders are followed to the letter. 2. Make sure you shower within a few hours just before your shift. 4. Make sure your uniform is clean and wrinkle free. 5. Make sure your Hygiene is proper at all times. 6. Make sure you know all your post orders and contact numbers Incase of a 911 situation. 7. Greet everyone by saying hello good morning, afternoon, evening simple. 8. Do not open draws or file cabinets or enter cubicles unless it is related to your job. 9. Make sure your allowed to read, write, or watch programs on your phone. 10. Breaking a simple post order will get your removed from the job site. 11. Never escalate a situation just walk away and report as instructed your not a cop. 12. Make sure you have a flashlight at all times that way if the power goes out you have a light source. 13. If you get tired at your post do another round it will wake you up. 14. Be professional at all times and make sure your shoes are shiny and clean at all times. 15. You have one chance make that first impression after that you will not be taken serious if you look like you slept in your uniform. 16. Make sure you show up 15 minutes minutes early take passdown instructions before the prior shift leaves. 17. I work the grave shift and the best way I stay awake is get 7 to 8 hours of sleep each day.
I work special events security for NFL, MLS, Nascar, USA and UCLA Football and Concert Venues...have an interview with Allied Universal for a Flex Officer position tomorrow. ..
I've done mall security. I enjoyed the day shifts and interacting with people and the tenants, but I disliked the Overnight shift, you are by yourself for 8 hours, so the staying awake was hard... but I am doing other security now but nice tips. I still enjoy Security work. Thanks
Being a security officer sucks ass. I worked as one in college. I got paid 10 bucks an hour. After I graduated and before I quit I made 14 and hour. It was only good for doing school work until I graduated. Now I'm a grad student and teach online part time and earn more than double of what I made per hour. My advice is don't do this for a career. Work towards something better.
Tech Left Alot of companies and sites don't which is true but honestly people who do the bare minimum because that's how they're thinking are usually the same guards that never move up and stay in the same position
stevkemp7 .. I do not drive only have an associates degree so getting promoted forget it. Well site I am at now pays $15.00. Which is a little bit more respectable of more than minimum wage. Yet they say how professional supposed to be. I bet they pay me $15.00 an hour and charge the client $50.00 an hour hell maybe even $75.00.
@@ileavecommentsonmyowncomme609 if you want to be paid better, learn how to create your own security company, learn the principles of entrapenerialism in a capitalistic society, busness etc, you are taking a job meant for people will sub par skill sets and expecting to be paid above the rank of the job you found low level jobs are not meant to set u up for life, they are for maintaining your minimal lifestyle while then seeking bigger oppertun ities on the side you decide your position in the world no one else. if you dont like a job then do what is required do it right and respectfully and without resentfulness or petty attitude, find ways to move up when your time comes.
I been doing security for 9 years and i love it i have no problem with doing security. I have worked at A FEW spots now i am at the bank been here for 2 years and the bank love me the customers love me
That's wonderful to hear. When you get a good site like that, some days don't even feel like work at all. I'm glad you were lucky enough to land that site.
Just landed a security job with Inline Security I’m going thru these type of videos to make sure I do my job right and don’t end up on RU-vid for the wrong reason
I am a security lead security guard and have trained alot of guards phones not gud put it away . Focus on ur job. the way you said about how u stand thats rite u nailed it. . Your older guards will be valuable to you remember they didnt have phones.if you can walk around good but get in routine for your shifts. You are gud security guard for your age love to have you with my team.
To the people who say Security is a bottom of the barrel job Here in Australia it’s 40-64 thousand year depending on part time or full time, My mum was doing financing and was on 52 . Not to mention If you invest you can make up to 60-95 a year all up.heaps of side hustles, fixing up cars consistently and selling them etc etc
Thanks for the video, man. I’m honestly thinking I’ll just take a job as a security guard (hopefully night shift) and just take things easy. I’d just love to get paid to sit around and the amount of free time sounds like a dream. I think this is something for me to consider and look forward to.
Thank you so much for your advice, I'm starting my security supervisor job in January 2021. Compliments of the season and I wish everyone all the best in 2021. ✌❤🇱🇨
This video is pure gold! Although these weren't the hardest laughs ever produced, it was the most laughs I ever had in an eleven minute time frame. Thanks for the chuckles.
I landed a security officer position a month ago full times hours for $8/hour I’m not going to be the most professional but I will get the job done. I literally do nothing but watch RU-vid videos and make my rounds. I’m more of a secretary than anything.
I would show presence, carried a mag and flood light would use my flood light to pan all over the post looking for anything suspicious. call and check up on other officers. keep my DAR current and be detailed in what I note on it. look at everything on post to read. look and read the pass down a log. other officers DARs and all incident reports. This serves as a valuable way to learn about the post and what to expect. Do my rounds and carry my flood light with me and pepper spray. look at all bulletins, notices and special reports. Always be alert and rested and look busy. Smile and greet everyone. look sharp and have all of your gear, like flashlight, mace, taser, and baton. and the like. I used to trained officers and made sure they learned the 10 codes and was versed in military time.
Looking sharp! Great job! Chew gum or walk. That will keep you awake. Also, while you do your rounds, you can make up stuff to do. Like, check fire extinguishers to make sure they're full and check their expiration dates. You can check every door in the building to make sure it's locked. If you find one unlocked you can spend time making a report. You can check the carpet for any potential trip hazards, like carpet starting to stretch out and wrinkled up. You can also check the stairwells and the fire exit doors. Instead of telling people not to do their job maybe you should encourage them to actually do it
Michelle The Security Guard Thanks! Although these are great tips, not every building site you go to will require you do that. For instance, the duties at the building of my main site are to check if fire extinguishers are full, AED defibrillators are working, evac chairs are in place, and certain doors are locked on every floor but at this building that I'm in during the video, I just have to unlock the front doors from the inside when it's time to open them, and there are no carpets here and it doesn't matter if any other doors within the building are closed/open, locked or unlocked.
stevkemp7 I get it but you are technically not supposed to be doing that. I know it gets boring but I would not be putting this up in case the client sees it. I am pretty sure they are not paying you to watch movies. Your company could loose the contract over this video. Good luck.
I've been in the Armed and unarmed Security/Law Enforcement field 20 years plus years Good video I was watching this just to see what some of the younger Officers are saying nowadays i started way back in the early 90's!! back home in Southern CA!
I took the class, passed the exam. Now just waiting for my guard card. Im talking to a security company tmrw who said they would give me a job if I have pictures of my class documents.
Im in warm ass san jose ca bay area . went to prison where it snowed. Used to have to post up for hours keeping watch and if anyone ran up it was go and poke . i start security today and i dont commit crimes anymore. Not gonna stab anyone. But i doubt they seen anyone whose able to stand for hours on end just being alert. Im a humble guy and id like to talk stuff out. Just excited and happy to be a security guard. 20 an hour is cool. Worked my ass off in modesto ca central valley for a concrete company made me tough as nails for 11 an hour. That was 3 years ago. Securitys awsome hope i have a good time. Ill let yall know how it is for me. Im 21 btw
Been working as a guard at a apartment/old folks home for 3 months, I like it honestly. Every 2 hours do rounds, once a shift take water/air temp. 8pm to 8am. Problem is its only one day a week. And it's hard to get another one because I have a DUI on my juvenile record and a restricted liscense. Any companies that would accept that? I work in Ohio.
@@stevkemp7 thank you, it's not bad for 11 an hour I just need more hours and they're not able to provide it. Do you have any experience with Allied Universal? They seem to be the most common.
Wow! I appreciate and thank you for the update. Can't say I'm surprised though, they constantly lost contracts for sites and messed up my pay. I've always hated Cambridge
I am going to start my security guard job tomorrow. I am a little nervous cause I am new to this field. This video is very helpful it gave me an idea abt the job. thnxx
I make 100k+ at a FT finance job but my RU-vid channel is growing really fast. I wish to spend all my time editing my videos and thus wanted to know if I do a security job, would they mind me bringing my laptop at work because if not, no point I quit my current finance job, Any help from security professionals will be appreciated.
I'm getting my guard card since all i want to do is become independent and train martial arts and security guard is suitable for my personality... I've been jumping from job to job from dishwasher to warehouse labor and I think Im more suitable being a security guard.. I have that aggression and confidence
I don’t think that aggression is a quality someone working in security would want. You have to be able to stay calm and calculative even in the most stressful of events.
I’m Start soon had a Interview yesterday just waiting for them to do my background check and do you know how long that’s takes? I’m so anxious just want Work Already🤗💯💯
The Notorious Yim Congrats, I never liked working security at museums personally too, too much but I'm really glad you do. Can't go wrong with an overnight. Less stress, a chance to make more money while everyone else is drooling on their pillow, I just hope you can get a decent little amount of sleep before the shift you start.
I always laugh and shake my head at people who try to shit on security guards no matter what level of security they may work, because the truth is they are legit first responders unlike the “first” responders the majority of the population has been conditioned to look at as such. This of course does not include commissioned LEO who work details at establishments that have contracted them. Just my humble opinion.
Tips to stay wake as a security guard ? 1. Drink a lot of caffeinated coffee 2. Take some caffeine pills 3. Energy Drinks 4. Smoke or Shoot up some good meth 💨 Just a few great tips!!
Hi It's Me Mind Your Own Business It's mainly at federal, government, and corporate sites but there are plenty of security companies that pay high. They're just harder to find and the process to become employed by them takes longer.
@@NorCalNiner707 I work private security and can tell you casino security is MUCH harder than private security. In Vegas they have armed bike patrol that patrol for 8 hours in the scorching July 115-120 weather. Some even have additional Trikes eith them. Casinos security guards are mostly deputized in Vegas so they are expected to use a complete escalation of force. On the weekends they get to also be bouncers. But unlike actual bouncers, they cant let them go. They get detained by security then removed by the Metro police department.
Any tips for guards that have to stand in one spot for ten hours? I just started that kind of work for the first time and I never realized just how much stress standing in one spot can put on the body.
Rick Barnadas Unfortunately no brother. Usually, if you don't have alot of actual stuff going on to oversee and watch that helps take your mind off the fact that you're standing, it can be brutal. One of the many reasons I was always quick to turn down retail sites
The property I'm at for security is in Santa Ana, we get a lot of crazy people, a lot of which are not dangerous but you do get a violent one every here and there. I'm getting my firearms permit this month and would love to move to being an armed guard. Any tips or routes I should take to become one?
I always try to keep mine clean, but they have me wearing dress pants in 2 miles of the desert on foot patrols. I have like mud almost to my knees. I did have new kind of combat boots. I kind of cheated the system got nine dollar boots from Temu wore them two weeks and I’ve already blew them out. They ripped on top and they’re no longer waterproof
i just got a job at a small casino 12am to 8am....I've had a job with a similar schedule.... and I'm kinda nervous cause ima have to stand and idk man I just find it kinda weird cause its around the time when the casino is closed. hopefully they don't put me alone or shit
Good advice, how you doing now? Hope to see more videos, I’m going through a hard time in life and your video cheered me up a bit as I may be going into security soon.
Thanks, I'm okay. How did my video cheer you up a bit? But I'm glad to hear that it did. I hope your life takes a turn for the better soon and hang in there. You know where to contact me if you need me. Good luck with security if you decide to get into it!
stevkemp7 Thanks buddy! I was trying to enter the security sector after my business failed last year, I lost my business, my apartment and most of my belongings, spent much of my savings on living expenses while job hunting. I did a course which gave me a security personnel permit but haven’t been hired yet. Your video gave me a lot of insight and it helps knowing someone doing the job can share so much good info, really appreciate this video brother 👍🏼
@@riley8280 Thanks very much for the kind thoughts! 😊 My life has indeed taken a monumental turn around, to cut a really long story short, I moved into a relative’s house where they let me live rent free until I could get my life back on track, I was also fed well! Out of the blue I applied for a job as a chef in a first class kitchen, as luck would have it the head chef and CPD’s quit due to the inhumane work load, and no one else would work in my section due to this fact. This made me by default head of section. As a person who does not know how to cook, it was challenging and horrible but the head chefs from other sections taught me as I worked. I saved up every penny, only eating the food from work and dinner from home, only used my work bus pass (included for free) to get to work and did body weight exercises on my day off. The pandemic ensued and I was able to purchase a small shop space for cheap with every penny that I had saved up (and borrowed a little) and have opened my own small food store. It isn’t much but I’m working hard and finally have my own place to live and worked my own boss again. I may do a video on how things went and how I progressed to where I am now, I’ll more than likely post it on my other channel AirsoftAfterHours here on RU-vid. I want to thank everyone that supported me during my life’s toughest time and to say to others keep pushing towards your dreams and if you are aggressive enough, you will get there!!!! Thank you 🙏
@@astroblemeRC great to hear! Keep grinding n never give up that entrepreneurship lifestyle itll all work out in the end! Wish u the best and I'll check out the channel. 💯💯💪
Security is dead end go to school find a different career, most nights i just watch a gang of movies netflix hulu porn you name it to get me through the night.
Do you have to constantly be making notes on everything that goes on or you see and making reports or can you pretty much just chill and be on netflix if nothing really is going on?
stevkemp7 Ok because they told me I gotta constantly be writing what I do and what goes on in my memo pad book and then write a report at the end of the shift.
@Adeoye Yilu Wassup, I know you gotta get up and do patrols regardless but it really depends on the site if they're willing to let you sit in between patrols. Every fireguard site I've been at, they had chairs for us except 1
@@stevkemp7 Appreciate it bro you still working security man? Hope you’re enjoying it I’m starting the certificates soon this will be my first proper career , honesty can’t wait to start nightshift
Update! 2021, Sometimes you work over 70 + hours 7 days no time for family because no one wants to come to work, yeah I think it is okay wanting more money because depends they might have a family to support, and this covert 19 made everything expensive, some security companies do pay the minimum, wage working long hours on minimum wage wow tiring Guards do feel fatigued if your single no responsibility hay' by all means minimum wage is good for signal peoples no problems
Realistically, I wouldn't say you work over 70 hours, 7 days a week working security or even sometimes. I've never heard of or been through that but I do know you get stuck working a double sometimes. I hate to break it to you bro but if you're pushing more than 70 hours a week, it might be time to change companies unless you're cool with it
@@stevkemp7 Bro I already lift the company in February 3 months ago. so did 8 other Guards. I worked as a Mobile Patrol driver checking the site, lock up at midnight and reopened 9 sites at, 5am. before people start filling up the streets Stev I was never a Static Guard brother, I didn't lie we worked over 70 hours, most times covering sites because they couldn't find Guards to work lazy guards always finding excuses. The problem was our boss was a money-hungry man, we kept asking him it was against the law overworking the Guards he didn't listen we tried everything lol. Anyway, I finished 3 months and now I'm doing a level 6 Diploma in Security investigator and Risk manager not easy, like you said bro keep learning, thank you, bro keep safe brother.
@@zac2325 You too man, I'm really glad you did/are. I can't imagine anybody having to get stuck working that many hours. Sounds like it should be some illegal labor law to me tbh. But good luck to you 👍
The little personal pepper sprays are legal to carry for self defense but unless your company issues you one through some training with them, they usually don't allow you to carry one
Good tips my man IV done security for for over 10 years in uk and best bit about my site it's super easy but I don't bring to much into work only fruit and water because u can easily put on weight . Thanks again are you still in security work?
