Unfortunately all the major US knife brands are making alot of their stuff in China. Glad I've got mostly older Spyderco's and Benchmade's that were made in the USA. Case still makes mostly US pocket knives. Buck knives have gone to the dark side along with Gerber and CRKT. Kershaw makes a lot of quality value priced US knives But like all the other US brands you have to be careful which model you buy.

I have a confession: I have a knife addiction. I have 3 Benchmades, 1 Spiderco, 1 Cold Steel, and a couple of others. Even though it's kind of big and bulky, the Benchmade Griptillian is my favorite. My fixed blades are all Moras, except for one Normark that I keep for sentimental reasons because my Dad gave it to me when I was a kid. Knives are kind of like guns--the number you need is the number you have, plus one. A friend once asked me if I carry a knife for self defense. I said no, I carry a knife because it's a useful tool.

When you find something that works for you, buy a backup. It never fails, that when you lose it or break it, and you have to get another, you find that the company has discontinued it.

Ok, Cody. I've owned the Osborne for longer than I've been watching your channel. In fact, I've had it since 2005 or so. Like you, I love the aesthetics of the knife, the green color, the purple accent. And it was my carry knife for many, many years. NOW... I'd suggest another Benchmade that is worthy of your consideration. No, it doesn't have the reverse-tanto blade, but it is beautiful and useable. It's the new Benchmade carbon-scaled Bugout, Model No. CPM-590V. It is ultra-slim and is configured with a traditional drop-point and the expected (and appreciated) Axis lock system. It's strong, but, as a carry knife, it is incredibly light with carbon-fiber scales and gorgeous blue accents. I know you're not a pocket clip kind of guy (I respect that), but as pocket clips go, this one is a great, deep-pocket design, with the knife only minimally protruding above the pocket line. You really need to take a look at it. I suspect it WILL give you the fizz. As always, thanks much for sharing. Steve

Ah, well... I have been content with my old Swiss Army [Victorinox] knife. Can't say which model. The bolsters and phillips screwdriver fell off years ago. The corkscrew broke off. No toothpick no more. No tweezers either. The tip broke off the small blade. But it is an old friend and still serves me well. When I dress up I have a slender Swiss Army knife that doesn't bulge the pocket. I have other Swiss Army knives -- one that was my late wife's (bigger than mine); a Fisherman, and the big one with a zillion items on it. But I still carry the old one. It suits me and I am a happy cudtomer of Victorinox. Of all the things made by Wenger (the other "Swiss Army" company,) I can boost one item. Some years ago I helped a rescue team who recovered the body of a drowned fisherman. He had been on he bottom of the lake for two weeks. The amazing thing was his Swiss Army (Wenger) watch. It still looked perfect. It still kept time perfectly. There was no water under the chrystal. It was a good keepsake for the grieving family. This is the one excellent product I have ever seen from the Wenger "Swiss Army" company. So... What's in YOUR pocket?

I think I could, and pretty sure you could live with that "old-timer" knife and use it to the fullest. Do you think this current generation could? So many 'advancements" and steels and, well the list goes on and on. I'm guilty of falling for the marketing "need" for features too, so I guess I shouldn't talk.

@@rdeanbenson217 apologize I just call it a old timer it’s a 303 cadet. My dads is a schrade old timer but was harder to get. The 303 has served me well since my 18th birthday. I’ve never needed to sharpen in 17 years and it hasn’t lead a simple life.

My grandfather always carried his old timer. I wish I had that knife today. I do have a Plumb BOA, hatchet, that belonged to him, though. Now in my 60s, I carry a Kershaw Scallion. Having purchased it for gardening chores, these days, I carry it daily for self-defense. As a side note, I attempted to do an online purchase of a fixed blade, survival knife today, and my bank, BofA, denied the debit from my checking account, which has a several thousand dollars balance. They informed me it was, "questionable activity." Funny, that my purchase of vegetable seeds, not 5mins before, was just fine with them.

Totally get “having the fiz”. I carried a simple Opinel for years, but would now not be without my Leatherman Surge. I get it would not be for everyone owing to size and weight, but always having pliers, screwdriver, saw and of course a knife, always with me around my property, I miss it in hot weather when in shorts and not wearing trousers with a belt.

Yes, I would think a top quality multi-tool as an everyday carry item is WAY more useful than a single blade knife. Does Cody carry a multi-tool with him at all times?

Regarding Spyderco, I carried a Police Model with fully serrated blade for years as a Deputy. Carried it on my weak side. Intended use was to cut seat belts in auto collisions, and as a tool to cut someone loose from my sidearm if necessary. Still carry it years later though retired.

The 940 is a BEAST. I think people mistakenly think because of its light weight, it’s more of a delicate tasker. But I’ve had mine about a decade, hardly any green left, won’t get razor sharp, but sharp enough. And it will not fail.

Get a 4" (at least 1/2 serrated) Endura, flip the clip on the other side so it carries with the eye to the rear when clipped into the watch pocket. The knife will ride high, but it will: Never be called "concealed" Always be ready Never get snagged Never compete for pocket space I've owned one since the late 90's when they first came out and still had plastic clips. They're fantastic and the serrated blades keep an edge for a long time despite being used for EVERYTHING.

You have reached the heights of wisdom for those of us who aspire to your greatness. Though only a professional semi-recreational home owner, (that's a level 1.5 on the pro scale!) I totally get the number one criteria for your favorite knife, lightening fast flipping and closing. Unfortunately this has been the cause of much contention with Mrs. Pro-semi-rec-homeowner. "Do you have your knife out again!" Might as well go back to an Old Timer.
