I had such pride in my heart watching him because I see my father in him. The confidence in his voice, the sharpness of his mind, his refusal to bend or break - it's all so familiar. He stands tall, black and brilliant, calculating his next move with honesty and poise. Try as they might, they couldn’t trip him up, he is too intelligent. We were always told to keep cash ,espcially if you went some where and you need it incase of an emergency, or pay your own way and dont expect any thing from others. I was born in Boston, 1960. I hung out in Cambridge and at Harvard. If you don't know the Boston Area's racism (overt, covert, and implicit-bias) then you won't culturally or first-hand understand his experience of being denied service unless it was cash -- and even then, whether your cash was counterfeit would come up! That's how racism (especially pretext/covert) works -- worldwide!

Why does it matter where he lived or how many residences he has?

A stash of cash is wise advice. You never know when credit card machines go down or ATM's are out of order. My parents told me to always keep cash on hand and have a stash. A lot of my church family (especially the older folks) always had cash on hand. I didn't realize it was a black thing until my coworkers (all white) said they never carry cash.
