amazing we're told to do this in the seventy when CB was the craze

Like I said , it's a great idea that completely makes sense after you guys mentioned it . I just never heard of it , or saw anyone do it before now . Maybe it's not such a necessity with newer batteries , who knows ?? ... lol

About 1978 my neighbor tried to get me interested in the CB-craze that was sweeping the US. He spent most of his income on high-power linear amp, tall tower, and a huge multi-bay quad antenna. And then would sit there at the radio, transmitting echo, reverbe, and sound-effects, while muttering 'hello' and 'audio' into the microphone. His 4 children went hungry because he didn't have money to buy food after his _important_ hobby. The noises that all the CB channels were jammmed with ear-splitting. The range that the legal operators could get was quite limited.

Honestly , I don't think that the cost for equipment these days even comes close to what they were paying for 23 channel radios back in the 1970s ... and today's radios do so much more now than they did back then , at a much lower cost ... and I can talk anywhere between 15 to 30 miles away on my CB radio . Depending on which mode I'm using .

I will admit that some people get far too carried away with the equipment they get . I don't see any sense in buying useless equipment , and noise toys .

I had a nice 40 channel Royce 1-682 , that I always relied on for the mobile . But somehow it vanished on me over the years . Because I don't know where it went to , and I know I didn't let it go because it was very reliable . Anyway , now I use an old RCA Co-Pilot 14T-302 in the mobile . Have fun with your Plymouth Volare, and your Royce .

Dont forget the fuse, close to the battery. Do you run an hf mobile? Great video!
@RaccoonsRadioRanch
@RaccoonsRadioRanch 2 года назад
You're right Luke , I do have a fuse in the positive wire to the battery . And I should run an HF radio in the mobile , but I just use one for 10 meters , which technically is an HF band .

Ah you are correct. The Lincoln is 10m. I've been running a yeasu 857d in the truck with the atas antenna. It's a good setup, but I think I'm going change it up soon..

@@RaccoonsRadioRanch you want the fuse right at the battery connection other wise you risk a fire

Where do you get a setup like the radio is mounted on. It would be handy to have one of those in some installs. 514 Ontario Canada

I bought mine online at a store called "Copper Electronics" , I can't remember how much it was ... but they don't cost a lot .

Was that a sloppy tape job on your coax end or a ferrite bead🤔😂 Explains why I hear you alot better when your out n about with that radio. Your directional with that wilson on your trunk. I heard you better coming back then going to chambers rd yesterday. So if you took the same route back home your signal was stronger. Nice video Racoon. 12ny...

I drive a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis, a fairly large car. Yet there is absolutely no room in it to install a radio. The hump is blocked when you pull out the cup holders. So I went to extremes. I completely removed the glove box, fabricated a steel framework underneath the dash where the glove box used to be, and mounted my CB and 2 meter amateur radio under there. Because the car is so wide, you really can't reach the radios while driving. The CB has channel buttons on the mic, and I have installed a power switch on the drivers side. The Yaesu 2 meter radio has all the controls on the mic. This setup is not ideal, but there is simply no other way to do it. I would like to put a Wilson 1000 on the roof, but that would prevent me from going through drive throughs, which is where I get most of my food. So I put it on the trunk lid. One thing I did notice is if the 2 meter radio is operated above 25 watts, it interferes with the cars computer, causing the engine to misfire slightly, and warning indicators to flash on the dash. I don't have any of those problems with my 1975 Ford F-150. I use a 102" bumper mount CB antenna with a 4" spring on that.

Since April 2020, here in Germany it is no longer allowed to use the microphone while driving. Another point why CB radio is hardly ever used on the Autobahn.

What is the name or link for the cigarette light adapter?

I'm sorry Kevin , I just saw this message . To answer your question . That is a cigarette lighter plug with binding post , it's very handy to have when putting a mobile radio into your car or truck. Here's a link to buy one if you're interested : amzn.to/3JuO99f

I've got a cb radio and I've got a 12 volt battery and I have the positive to positive and negative to negative. Straight wired in my bedroom in my trailer, I have an antenna I got from Amazon and ran it out my window and placed the antenna on top of the trailer. Everything seems to work except when I connect the ground to the negative on the battery I push my mic to talk but the cb will go directly back to channel 9. I've also connected the ground to a peice of rebar outside the trailer driven in the ground but it continues to do the same thing. As long as I don't hook up the ground to anything it works but I don't get a good reception and I can't get out on my cb.😢What would you suggest because I want to be able to communicate even short distance. Please help me???

You didn't mention about amperage requirements and car batteries. Do you have any recommendations ? It's time for me to be getting a new battery for my 2016 Altima Nissan and i need & want to get a larger/stronger amperage battery do you have a recommendation ? Will I need to get a large capacity alternator two. I may be be using a 100 watt + 10/12 RCI 2970 DX or my Yaesu FT 891rig using a ham stick 10/12 meter antenna & a 11 meter ham stick for CB or trying the 10/12 stick using a small antenna tunner . Any advice ? Anybody else have any good advice for the mobile use & installation ?

I live in the north eastern part of America , and around January and February we get some pretty cold temps . From around 10 degrees to negative 10 degrees . So I always try to get a battery with very high "Cold Cranking Amps" anyway . But as for stronger battery's , or bigger alternators for running those radios in your mobile ... you won't need them . I use the Lincoln II + in the mobile , and I've used an RCI 2970 in the mobile in the past as well . And I didn't need to upgrade my battery or my alternator to use them , and they work just fine . So you should be perfectly fine running those radios in your mobile with what you're already using .

No fuse at the battery? Nice way to burn down your ride,and fast👍. Not cool 😎

I've heard this many times now , and to be honest ... in all of the 40 plus years that I've been involved with radio . I have never seen , or heard of anyone putting a fuse at the battery . Not that I think it's a bad idea , because to be honest it's a great idea . But I have been putting radios in my vehicles since 1995 and have never heard of this being done , or known anyone to "burn down their ride" because they didn't use a fuse in their line .
