Thanks for checking out Raccoon's Radio Ranch . I talk about C.B. , and Ham Radio related topics in my videos. I was originally bitten by the radio bug when I was a kid , back in 1978 , and I've remained interested since . In fact I still talk on the radio everyday . I've also been a licensed Ham operator since 2004 . I like to share my 40 plus years of radio knowledge with other people ... hopefully encouraging others to become involved with CB & Ham radio too . Because a lot of people don't know it , but the radio hobby is still out there , and there are still people talking on the air waves everyday .
I upload new videos weekly , but due to a crazy schedules at home ... I upload them whenever I can .
So please make sure to subscribe , and turn on the notification bell so you're always notified whenever I upload new videos .
I had a nice 40 channel Royce 1-682 , that I always relied on for the mobile . But somehow it vanished on me over the years . Because I don't know where it went to , and I know I didn't let it go because it was very reliable . Anyway , now I use an old RCA Co-Pilot 14T-302 in the mobile . Have fun with your Plymouth Volare, and your Royce .
this guy is a hypocrite, he tells you at 14:16 about the MARS MOD (opening up to use 11mtrs or 27mhz) he says he wouldn't do it, but if you followed his Video when he was showing all the frequencies it will work on, it shows on the Yaesu FT897D screen channel @ 27.105.00 (3:12)................ just be honest pal, your Radio has or had the MARS MOD at the time of making this Video. ----> "YES" loved watching the Video all the same & "YES" i own an FT897D (shhh, with a Mars Mod - but that's me) my advice to Raccoon, speak the truth & no-one will ever pick Bloopers in your Videos................................ please make honest videos from now on so no-one can catch you out!
All FT-897's have the capability to go to 11 meters . So it's not hypocritical to use your 897 to listen in on the other bands . I'm sure that many of us do it . Just because it can go to 11 meters , doesn't mean that it's being keyed up there . I'm also sure that you'll find out that most of the 897's you're buying used these days have probably been MARS modded since the 60 meter band was added after they were manufactured , and ham operators were modding them so that they could key up there . With that said , I have to tell people that they shouldn't be modding their radios to be used outside of their legal operating areas . If I don't , I'll get 100 people telling me in the comment section that I should be saying that in my videos ... versus the one guy who "Picks Bloopers In My Videos" . I'll take that one guys comment over 100 of them repeating the same comment over & over . Thanks for watching the video , I'm glad you liked it ... other than the "Blooper" .
That is something I have been working on for awhile now . Every time I think I've found the right volume level , someone else tells me that I need to turn it down again . It's a long and slow process . But I brought down pretty good now I think . If you go check out my newest video I think you'll see what I'm talking about .
I bought one back in April/May. I had no idea that it did all that! Guess I might need to bring it out, move the Kenwood aside and give it a try! Thanx for the video!
You're very welcome , I'm glad you liked it . Thank you for the kind words , and I hope that it was helpful enough for you to find the right equipment you'll need to get started . Good luck on your new adventure .
There have been so many great radios over the years , that the actual list of great vintage radios is just way too big to fit into one "Top 10 Vintage CB Radios" video . I'll have to make another video in the near future featuring 10 different vintage radios to build the list up some more. Thank you for watching the video .
I hadn't seen any in my search for CB radio commercials . But maybe they didn't think that they needed to , since their radios seemed to sell themselves ... along with the company's reputation .
I think you're asking if an upside coffee can would also work for a 102" Whip antenna , and I think it might . Although I've never tried it before ... I did have a friend that talked about mounting a 102" Whip antenna on a coffee can , putting it on his roof , and talking all over the world with it . If you try it out , make sure to let us know how it works out for you .
@ Raccoon's Radio Ranch: Hello. I'm trying to figure out what ADAPTER I need to run a Midland Portable CB Radio 75-822 Model from my car using a TRAM 3500 CB Radio Antenna. I keep ordering the wrong part, and nobody has an answer "so far" at least.
@@RaccoonsRadioRanch Thank you. I just recently purchased a few radios (let me tell you which ones): President George FCC with SSB/AM/FM, JOPIX Portable CB (like the T-X from the United Kingdom), President Randy II, QYT Portable CB, of course the Midland 75-822, and the Cobra 75 which is on the way. Excited to get into CB. Also got the Stryker External Antenna for Car and the Tram 3500.
@@KMWR1818 That's a nice selection of radios . It's definitely a great start . I'm glad to see that you've decided to get into CB , I hope you enjoy it .
I have a CPI 2000 actually , and I plan on eventually featuring it in a video . But I have an easier time finding out information online about my CPI than I did for this radio . The only information that I found out about this radio online , was another guy asking if anyone had ever heard of it before .... lol. Thanks for watching the video , and for your comment . I like to hear from my viewers .
If you don't tell them in the video , then you spend the next few weeks (to months) being told in the comment section "over & over" that you should have told them that they "need a ham license for 2 meter" , or being asked "over & over" if they need one ... put it in the video and problem solved .
Thanks Charles, it's good to hear from you too . I'm already working on my next video . Thanks for sticking around all this time , and for watching the videos .
I do love 2m 440 and hf. Though, i cant lie. I rag chew with locals on cb the most. I guess its the free structure i like the best about it. I live in the west, my family has been here since the 1880s. I consider cb to be the wild west of radio.
You're right, CB is pretty much the "Wild West" of the radio hobbies , that's for sure . I float around to all of the bands , from VHF & UHF , to the HF bands and the CB too . But CB was my first taste of the radio hobby when I was a kid . So I still like to go there and talk with the friends that I've had there for many years . I'm glad to see that you're still hanging out here , and watching the videos ... thanks .
You're welcome, I love 2M SSB ... I've been trying to make more people aware that it's out there as an option , and encourage more people to use it . Thanks for watching the video .
Well my Old Radios were a bit older, and rarer : A President Washington AM/SSB Radio , and Johnson Viking Messenger CB Radio 1960 (Whiteface), and the Big Brother Blackface JOHNSON VIKING MESSENGER II CB.
I just visited your (The 5 Worst CB Radios To Buy) video where you ask viewers to comment and share their opinions in the comment section, yet the comments are turned off /disabled? Just curious why?
Thanks for watching that video , and for your question. I usually leave the comments on . But on that video they continuously kept bickering about one of the radios in the list . I got tired of hearing about it , so I turned of the comments .
Very nice radio ... If you're trying to track another one down , try looking on Ebay , Mercari , or Etsy . Also sign up for some CB forums like WorldwideDX Radio Forum ( www.worldwidedx.com/) , or Grumpy's Olde Time Radio Forum (grumpy.proboards.com/) and seeing what the other forum members are selling . Good luck , and thanks for watching the video.
That's a nice radio, you have no idea how many times over the years that I've let radios go that I now regret letting them go . I can tell you that if you're trying to track another one down , try looking on Ebay , Mercari , or Etsy . Also sign up for some CB forums like WorldwideDX Radio Forum ( www.worldwidedx.com/) , or Grumpy's Olde Time Radio Forum (grumpy.proboards.com/) and seeing what the other forum members are selling . Good luck in your search , and thanks for watching the video .
Honestly I hadn't discovered that radio until a few months after I made this video. I'm subscribed to another RU-vid channel that made a video about one ... looks like a good video.
that is a cigarette lighter plug with binding post , it's very handy to have when putting a mobile radio into your car or truck. Here's a link to buy one if you're interested : amzn.to/3JuO99f
I'm glad this video was able to help you out . If you have any other questions feel free to ask , and I'll do my best to answer them for you . If I can't answer them for you , I'm sure someone else here would be able to help you out . Thanks for watching the video .
Sorry if you didn't like the list Bill . But it came from researching the various models and determining which ones were the harder ones to find . Do you have a few of them, so you don't find them hard to find ? If so , do you want to share them with the rest of us ? ... lol
Has anyone ever heard of a Globe Star electronics, CB tube rig from the 50's. Had only 3 knobs, volume, squelch & 5 channel A-B-C-D-E with interchangeable crystals?
Has anyone ever seen a Globe Star electronics CB am radio. 5 channel A-B-C-D-E with interchangeable transmit & receive crystals. I had one as a gift way back in the late 60's.
I had a Motorola 40 channel upper and lower sideband base station it was a really good radio. Never had a sanyo never even heard about one until your video.
You have to figure out which colored wires would be the PTT (keyup) wire , usually the red , but not always . Then which one would be the audio , usually the white wire , but again not always . And which one would be your common ground , which is usually either the black wire, or the shield (the bare wire) ... and in some cases you combine them . Then you have to figure out which pins are the PTT, audio , and ground and solder them together . If you have any paperwork on either the mic or the radio , they will show which does what ... and if you don't you can usually find their manuals online , just do a google search .
I love the looks of the radios (and cars) from that era ... as well as so many other things that came from that time period . Thanks for watching the video .
Old man here. I had a KRACO cheap CB with used Hustler brand twin/fiberglass with stingers on top (6" metal antenna at the top) when I was 17. I had to get a license back then but that set up worked AMAZING! shoot skip from central Illinois to Texas ! In the last couple years started dragging a camper around and CB is used alot with RVrs . I have a President Andy CB. and Just installed the Cobra 75 All Road with a Stryker A-10 .it tuned 1.1 right out of the box! sorry long winded.
You can be as long winded as you want to be here at the Ranch Dave , we don't mind . My Mom and Dad were on the CB back in the 70's , that's how I became interested in radio myself . They had a license as well back then ... I was about 9 or 10 years old . I have a motorhome as well with a CB and a Ham radio in it for when we're traveling . Thanks for watching the video .
