Best troubleshooting video ever! Thank you so much, I'm getting into this tomorrow. Update: Was getting P0304, P0300. Turned out that I replace spark plugs and the coil module. Cylinder 1 and 4 were severely corroded (coil, links, plug), just amazing that it ran for so long like this, the other 2 looked brand new. The coil module comes with the rubber boots and the spring links, all in one box. Paid 180 CAD from a local auto parts retailer, stock on a Saturday morning! Spark plugs were premium at 21 CAD a piece. Will check my connectors to the computer in the summer. Be very careful if you are newbie and replacing spark plugs, the holes are deep and you want that clean right to the bottom as if you were going to eat some sushi in there. I use an air compressor, break cleaner and thin rags that I pushed down with a flat screwdriver around the spark plugs until its perfect. Pulled them out easy, did about 1/4 turn torque on the new ones. I checked the gap, didn't need any adjustment right form the box, Be careful with the coil module connector, pull that little colored tab out and press down on the clip to pull out. Google it if you are not clear on that. Mileage 67,000 km (42,000 miles).

This brings back memories of the shop that I went to last year. and just as you said, they had replaced multiple ICM and the problem was still there. The only difference was that this vehicle would blow fuses, but it was still the same corroded connector. good job Bernie.

I don’t have one of those fancy tools but my 15 cruise has been sitting for several month. I took my car to a dealer and they got oil all over the top of my transmission where the filter is. Which I freaked about so they “cleaned” it by pressure washing it. Fast forward to months later, I started having a misfire. I changed the ignition coil. It fixed it for a few months then started misfiring again. I would bet you this is the result of them pressure washing the engine bay where it says “do not pressure wash” and when I say dealer i mean an actual chevy dealer, so they should have known better. I contacted chevy and they were no help. From that day on I work on my own cars. I’ll check the plugs once I finish the ford I’m working on. Thank u very much it’s another place to look besides changing the result of something else being broken!

I had a 2015 Chevy Cruze and I had a misfire on cylinder 3 and the dealership mis diagnosed and costed me $2500 to replace the engine. After moving to PA, I had the same issue and took it to Bean’s Auto in North Versailles and he replaced the coil pack which was the correct diagnosis. He went above and beyond and replaced the spark plugs and changed the oil. If anyone in the Pittsburgh area needs their car repaired. I recommend Bean’s Auto. John Bean was my grandmother’s mechanic for years. That is how I know him.

Great Video - in Cruze chat groups, members go through those coil / ignition modules like candy. I find GM placed the washer fluid reservoir fill neck way too close to the computer. That was one of the first things l noticed when I bought this car. Awesome video. I always was curious how to troubleshoot these coil packs because you can't use old school methods like coil swaps.

Great video as always Bernie, however I have a couple questions. Yes you cleaned the corrosion from the connector, but wouldn't there be actual damage (pitting) to the terminals in the connector and the pcm? Second, how did the the corrosion happen? I didn't see any mention of inspecting the weather seal or determining how liquid got inside the connector.

How could you tell that it was shorting to injector?
@billyyoder8171
@billyyoder8171 3 года назад
He could see the white trace on the scope waveform shape was identical to a fuel injector control waveform. It was supposed to be a 0 to 5 VDC square wave. Instead it was at 12 VDC, then pulled down to 0 VDC. Then when released, you see the white trace spikes very high. Probably as high as 50 VDC spike. If you rewind the video and pause it you will kind of make it out, if you know what an injector waveform looks like. Hope this helps.
