Our artists and crew along with the musicians at Orchestra Victoria gave our final farewells to Arts Centre Melbourne's State Theatre, which will reopen in 2027 following renovations. The State Theatre has been one of our resident theatres since 1984, where we first opened with Maina Gielgud's production of The Sleeping Beauty.

Wow. Momentous night for all. Somehow though, it’s always sad to see old,theatres ‘go’. So much history in those chairs and the curtain. 🩰🩰🩰🩰🩰🙏🙏🙏👵🇦🇺

I so wish it wasn't going to be named after just one man. So many decades of the public purse have gone into this space. It's not right. I'm outraged that there wasn't community consultation.
