Seed Droppers: Simple (But Very Effective!) Ways to Talk to a Jehovah's Witness About Jesus

This is Part 6, and the last video of my Series About Jehovah's Witnesses. In this video, I give you some of my favorite, simple but powerful ways to show a Jehovah's Witness about the Deity of Jesus... by using their own Bible translation. I call these 'seed droppers' as they're quick, very effective, and are meant to leave quite the stone in their shoe and let the Holy Spirit do His thing. This is by far one of the toughest topics to talk about with a Jehovah's Witness which is why I waited to address it.

Dear Melissa, I am an ex JW (stoped around 6 months) . The thing that saddens me the most is losing Jesus in my life. I was very confused but slowly and with the help of the Holy Spirit I am realizing that yes I can pray to Jesus and yes I can call him my God imitating Thomas (in my prayer I say if I got this wrong I shall blame Thomas lol). Thanks so much for your kind support. I have Jesus Christ in my life now

In my own humble opinion and talking from the stance of an XJW who was part of the organization for 30 years I can honestly say I have never seen any witness leave the faith because of anyone convincing them their doctrine was wrong whether it be the Trinity, hellfire, immortality of the soul, or any other doctrinal point. In fact I remember many conversations where we would argue with the householder on so many doctrines and it was a total waste of time neither one convinced the other that they were right. I feel the best way to reach a witness is not through doctrine but by exposing the organization for the corruption that they're involved in such as the pedophilia scandal and the selling off the kingdom Halls and making a profit off of them basically becoming a real estate tycoon. I do think some of the other videos I watched where you talk about how they flip-flopped on doctrinal matters such as the blood issue and the generation of 1914 that those to are excellent points to bring up in helping one to wake up from the organization. Also another good point is that the governing body has made themselves the mediator in place of the Christ since they believe that the mediator is only between God and the 144,000 not the great crowd. That being said I do appreciate your videos and for witnesses that are questioning their faith I'm sure it will have an impact.

Idk if you'll see this because it's an old video.this is a long post so please read if you can. But i was raised JW. I would say 3rd generation on both sides my grandparents on both sides of my family, also every person in my family down to my father and mother who met in the kingdom hall. Think of about 50+ people who I am close to that to this day are JW. And about 5 that are disfellowshipped (100% black people) that will matter later on. I'm 25 and I was raised from birth reading the text going to field service, singing the same songs every sunday, I never had a birthday and I never celebrated holidays. When I was 7 my father died and my mother was disfellowshipped. I had a lot of anger towards God because the JWs never helped us. Being a daughter of a disfellowshiped person. I spent many years not speaking to any of the members of my family only the ones who were also disfellowshipped. But in their old age they feel more obligated to talk to family. I had no friends at all and still struggle to find friends now. When I was a young adult I too fell into new age by researching other religions. We have NO TEACHING on spirituality and honestly idk if they even believe in deliverance or demonic attack in JW so I didn't know that what I was researching was wrong. I wanted to find my African roots and fell trap to these african root practices such as voodoo and other things, I feel into a deep depression not understanding who God was. Jesus saved me actually through my Apostolic Pentacostal husband he ministered to me and I didn't even think hell was real, I didn't know jesus was alive and saved me! I didn't know the Holy Ghost was something I could have and I haven't been baptized because in JW baptism is a privilege not a Christian right. I loved how I could dance in church and sing because in meeting we had to be quiet the whole time. There use to be a sound proof section for mothers and babies for complete silence. So I love the Apostolic church. And there deep connection to Jesus. The prayer warriors, the healing and the deliverance, thefasting. the music. The love. I had never seen any of that before! And who knew Jesus was so close! I said all that to say this. Please see the corrilation between JW and Black and minority Groups, Mormons and white people. Back in the early 2000s everyone that was JW was black. Honestly 99.9% of my church was black now I see more and more hispanic JWs than anything it scares me because I know it has a lot to do with the education level and cultural misunderstanding. They target our groups! And pray on our inner cities and poorly educated to give them a doctrine that a normal critical thinker wouldn't agree to. I'm almost 2 year a full follower of Christ and I've never in my life felt more full. The bread is real. These videos you are creating hit not only home but like... my whole existence. What You are saying what my uncle would shout about all the time. God bless you. In Jesus name.

Another great publication is the 1942 diaglott. I used that to start the process on my girlfriend to show that the NWT doesnt even follow their greek translation. Lit a fire under her butt to start having zero faith in the NWT. Her name is Jenn and please pray for her to continue waking up and get saved. She is believing and doesnt even know it John 17:3 from the NWT "taking in knowledge" vs the KJV "know thee"----She thinks just having knowledge of Christ coming and dying for her is enough to be born again. She is struggling with head knowledge vs heart knowledge. She needs to realize its by grace THROUGH faith that a person is saved. THanks!

Sometimes they don't mind using a KJV, and if they will, have them look up Acts 20:28 "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." When did God shed His own blood? I don't know if they changed it in new worldly translation, but I wouldn't be surprised. They're being taught and trained not to serve or worship Jesus. Can you imagine, not being able to talk to Jesus. Jesus will say to us, "And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Matthew 7:23.

@Michelle, In Isaiah, does it say, "and they shall call him Emmanuel" in their book? I remember in 1979 I worked with a Jehovah's witness. Back then I showed her with my KJV along with her book that Jesus was who He said He was. She hated me to the point that when I was working she'd pass by me, and shove my face onto the desk. I showed love toward her, until one day I told her I was a child of the most High, and if she laid her hands on me one more time that I would have to call loudly out to Him, and He would hear my cry. She looked at me, and said she was sorry for what she'd been doing, then asked to read my BIBLE which I gladly loaned to her. I actually thought she would tear it up, but she didn't. It wasn't long after that she quit her job. I hope how I talked to her, and acted for at least 8 months had a good effect on her life. At that time I also let her know in Revalation at the end time only a remnant would be saved, and that it would only be 12,000 from each tribe of the 12 tribes of Israel that would be saved. That would only be 144,000 virgin men with the seal of GOD on their forehead's, the other's that were in Christ Jesus would be beheaded for their Faith. That caught her off guard, and she was scared because I told her shed be excluded. Back then there was enough of our KJV in her book. She could've gotten saved if she just read it correctly. But I guess without the Holy Spirit, and her desire to know the truth she would never come to Christ as her Savior. I pray she has, but I never heard from her again. I must say, I've never been treated so badly for my Faith before. It really showed me something, that having no fear, and just loving like Jesus does has an effect on other people, whether in kindness or in hate. One way or another they will respond. Times are worse now, so I believe I will be one that will defineatately be hated, and killed for witnessing. I'm pretty ignorant of the Jehovah Witness doctrine. I was back then, but I didn't know it. I'm very glad you are teaching this to ppl. I get some each year that come knocking on my door, and I have had to turn them away, because of that ignorance. I'm saving your video's, and I'm going to try, and get all the books you have to help me learn. Thank you, and may GOD Bless this ministry abundantly. In Jesus Name. AMEN

You are amazing. God has given you a wonderful gift of teaching. You do more than apologetics. My life has been interesting where I've come in contact with Jehovah Witnesses. My dad shared an account of his mother and Jehovah Witnesses who came to her door. They asked if she might like to study the Bible with them. She said she'd love to and invited them in. Then she said, "Before I study the Bible I always like to pray," so she knelt down and proceeded to pray aloud for the two people who came there that day. When she was done praying they were gone. I take a different tactic (there's that word again). I try to find things we agree on and build out from there. Once I had 5 Jehovah Witnesses in my trailer as we talked about the blood of Jesus cleansing us from sin, then I believe I explained how that would have been impossible if Jesus was not God. Pretty soon they all "had" to leave, but I believe I succeeded in "putting a pebble in their shoes" as Gregg Koukl puts it. The rest I leave up to God.

I appreciate you sharing this. The main thing that woke me up as a JW to the fact that Jesus is referred to many times as Jehovah is the meaning of YHWH in Hebrew. I'm not talking about the 'I am that I am' part. What English speaking JWs aren't taught is that in Hebrew, each letter of the alphabet means one or more words. For example the word father in Hebrew, pronounced Abba/Ab is composed of the letters Aleph & Bet (the equivalent of A & B in English). Aleph/A means head/leader/strength Bet/B means House A father as we know is the Leader or Head of the House. The entire Hebrew language is like this, every word literally makes sense and describes itself. One of the forms of ancient Hebrew also was a Pictograph version and the letters were actually drawn like their meanings. So when you look up the meanings of the letters YHWH: Y: Hand H: Look W: Nail H: Look Anyone can Google YHWH Pictograph and see this. When I realized this, I immediately thought of John 20:27-29 It took awhile for me to unravel the understanding, but by Spirit all truth is revealed if we continue pressing and searching for it. I do also believe YHWH is sometimes applied to the Father, just like a human man can name his son after himself (and you'd have to look at context to see who is spoken of.) And the Son has always been the image of God or the One that was seen and spoke to His servants. The Father took over the role of God when the Son emptied Himself and came here. And that's why Paul and others are distinguishing who they speak of when they say God the Father. Also JWs don't understand that God in Hebrew can be plural. Some in the past when referring to YHWH said My God (plural Elohim). Gen 28:21 interlinear, for example. But when Jesus called out My God, He used the singular form Eli. (Matthew 27:46 is a quote from Ps. 22:1, in the interlinear is also Eli, singular, so the Greek text/manuscript doesn't invalidate that in any way.) I will say that I don't believe exactly in the official trinity as I believe that Jesus is who became the life-giving Spirit 1 Cor 15:45 and there are other Scriptures that reference the Spirit of Jesus. (Acts 16:7) But definitely as a JW I didn't understand what people meant when they said trinity. There is a huge misconception.

You're RIGHT. Jesus was " prayed" to. But the BASIC meaning of " to pray" is simply to make a request. ( epikaleo). Obviously you can make requests of God( prayer) but you can ALSO make a request of humans too:. "I appeal( epikaleo) to Caesar" Paul said. See Acts 25:11&28:19.

When you get revelation of verses used then it becomes yours to keep. I always use 1 Corinthians 1:2: to all who in every place call on name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours. 1 Corinthians 1:2. In Acts 9:1-21. Paul talks directly to the Lord Jesus. I always use the term Lord Jesus when talking to the witnesses which is also in their bible.

Melissa, another great verse to add to your Isaiah 9:6 verse is Isaiah 10:20-21. This verse uses the same term, "mighty God", in use of "Jehovah". Ask the witness who the "mighty God is in Isaiah 10:20-21. If they say that the "mighty God" is Jesus, then who is Israel returning to? This verse has the use of all caps "LORD" which is referencing "Jehovah" or "Yahweh". The same prophetic context is used in both verses, both are God; the same God since there is only ONE God.

Hebrews 1 is where there are multiple translation problems, with the translators being either sloppy or changing the text. For example, the Greek word translated as "he says" in verses 6 and 7 and implied in verses 8 and 10 is “legei”, which is used in the New Testament Scriptures to refer to what "he says", or "she says", or "it says". In Hebrews 1 it means the "the Scripture says," or "the writings say". The author is writing to Hebrews/Jews who would recognize that these were quotes of scripture where “it says…”, and none of the quotes used in verses 6-10 are direct statements that God made, so they are not “he said”, but are other writings, meaning “it says…”. Verse 6 should say, “when he brings in the firstborn into the world, it [the writings] says...” Again, verse 7 should say, “And of the angels it [the writings] says...” Verse 8 would continue as, “But unto the Son [it says], your throne oh God…” Then verse 10 would read as, “And [it - the writings] says, You, Lord, in the beginning ...” Finally, verse 13 should say, “But to which of the angels said [it] at any time...” Verse 8 is often pointed to, claiming that it is proof of Jesus being called God. The Hebrew Bible calls people god numerous times (and the Greek and Hebrew writings were in all Capital letters, so if anyone tries to make a theology based on majuscule or minuscule letters, like God or god, they are either ignorant or deliberately deceitful). Judges were called gods (elohim) in Exodus 21:6 and 1 Samuel 2:25 (in Hebrew), angels are called gods in Psalm 97:7. Even Jesus used this linguistic fact in John 10:34: “Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?”” He quoted Psalm 82:6. These are very inconvenient linguistic facts that are ignored to strengthen a doctrine that is at best very weak. Hebrews 1:8 is a quote from Psalm 45:6, which some say should be translated as saying “God is your throne”, where the throne is a metaphor for a symbol of power, and the king’s power comes from God. You can see this in the interlinear here: biblehub.com/interlinear/psalms/45-6.htm But regardless of the translation, even if Hebrews 1:8 is calling Jesus God, it would have been understood in its context as a human god, a king, in contrast to angels. This should be obvious because the text of Hebrews 1:4-9 is showing that Jesus, though a man, is superior to angels because God has made Jesus to be superior to them (verse 4) and has commanded the angels to submit to him (verse 6). If Jesus is already God, there would be no need for making such a trivial argument to Jews, as they know that God is superior to angels by default! Furthermore, verse 9 goes on to very bluntly state that Jesus has a God over him, and this God has anointed Jesus to be ruling over his human brethren. “You have loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore [based on this condition] God, even your God, has anointed [Christed/christened] you with the oil of gladness above your fellows.” If Jesus was already God, there would be no need for him to be lifted up to be over humans. In fact, this would be even more trivial than demonstrating that he is above the angels since mankind is by default lower than the angels! The whole reason for the anointing is for God to show that He has designated, appointed, this man, a human person, to be above all others, including angels. Reading the passage in this way clears away all the confusion. It is not God declaring that His Son is God. Rather, it is the Jewish writings that are being quoted so as to distinguish between God, the Son of God, and the angels.

First off I want to give you a Huge thank you for doing this Melissa. I cannot tell you how much of a blessing this entire series has been to me. I hold Bible study with my kids on Sunday and my ex Dad is a JW, so of course he tries to teach it to my son. I have been in prayer about how to handle this because he loves and look up to his Grandad so I don’t want to come off harsh so what God put on my spirit is that it is my responsibility to share the true gospel with him (which is why we do the Bible Study each week). Lately he has been asking a lot of question that I know are coming from his Grandad because they are too specific with scriptures and most attack the deity of Jesus and the doctrine of the Trinity. So to say your videos has been a blessing and came right on time is an understatement. However there is one thing I would like to discuss with you and it is on John 14:14. I know in this video you say the JW omit ask Me but so does the KJV, NKJV, and I was only able to find me in the ESV (which admit that it is admired in some translations). Normally this would not be an issue for me but when I used the BLB to look up the Greek/Hebrew (not sure which one) to my surprise for that verse if I look up in KJV there is a Greek/Hebrew version without Me and when I look in ESV there is a Greek/Hebrew version with “Me”. So this led me to question what was it originally (did it have Me or Did it not have Me). If you have any insight on this I would love to hear it because I know you went to seminary school. I did not I am just a man who wants to have a relationship with God and I study His word to get to know him (although I have a Masters just not in religion/Christianity). Thanks again for this and if you have any insight on my question thanks in advance for your answer!

here's another double whammy for them: In John 2:19-21 where Jesus says that in 3 days, He will raise himself up and it goes on to say that He was talking about His body. So, it is a bodily resurrection, the double whammy part is, this also points out that if He resurrecting Himself, then He has to be conscious to do it and not in an annihilated state as they teach.

Hey Melissa! Could you do a similar video on witnessing to New Age/Thought people who have Jesus among their pantheon of 'gods', or maybe more accurately, of 'wise teachers'? If you already have, great! I'm just seeking wisdom on how to witness to a friend, what scriptures to use, and if there's any 'unknown God' type beliefs to help bridge them to the truth revealed in scripture and the person of Jesus (a la Paul in Athens). Often in sharing about God's work in my life I get the "I'm glad you found your truth!" response, when I just want them to see Jesus is *the* Truth. Either way I'll keep an eye out.

Ah, but unless they are from the anointed class of 144000, according to Watchtower, he is not their mediator. Many rank and file JWs don’t realise this even though 1 Tim 2:5 says there is one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.

Hey Melissa, I appreciate the work you put into all your videos. watched all 6 parts of the JW's content. I had a bible study with a very learned JW, allowed them to lead the bible study and played the student. Here is what they say about the following: Revelation 5:13-14 "The 13th verse Is talking about God and Jesus. the 14th verse might be separate... it isn't clear if the four living creatures are saying Amen and worshipping Jesus." Hebrews 1:6 "My version doesn't have a star. I can only see it on your screen. That is strange that it would say worshipped". Maybe you haven't done an update?" John 8:58 interlinear The watchtowers excuse for this one was very tricky. The JW explained that because the sentence contains "to become", "Before Abraham" and "I am". Jesus could be saying that before Abraham he had become and therefore was. Or in "2 Samuel 2:20" Asahel says "I am" he clearly isn't God. I really didn't know how to respond to that one Melissa. Because the Watchtower doesn't explain that "I am" at Exodus 3:14 in Hebrew is not the same "I am" that appears in 2 Samuel. Yes the Koine Greek does say Ego Eimi. But the Hebrew one doesn't. Anyway no luck in waking that JW up.

In John 8 Jesus said to the Jewish leaders, "Unless you believe that I AM (εγω ειμι) you will die in your sins." They missed it the first time, they didn't get what he was saying because he said, "I AM" and they're like... 'I am what???? who are you?' This discourse goes back and forth. Finally, when Jesus said that Abraham rejoiced to see Jesus day, the Jews incredulously replied, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?" Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was (γενεσθαι), I AM (εγω ειμι)." Jesus was not simply saying that he existed before Abraham. He didn't say "I was" (ημην) but "I am" (εγω ειμι)-grammatically incorrect, theologically spot on! He was claiming to be Jehovah - the I AM of Deu 32:39 and Isa 43:10 (on this below). The Jews got it this time, they understood what he was saying, which is why they picked up stones to kill him for blasphemy (which was the “penalty for blasphemy (Lev 24:16)-blasphemy here is regarded as laying claim to the divine ineffable name.”(1) If JW's want to argue that Jesus was simply claiming to preexist before Abraham they have to explain the reaction of the Jews. If he was simply claiming to be older than Abraham they would have laughed at Him and thought He was crazy - Jews didn’t kill people for being crazy - but they understood He was claiming to be Jehovah. Why did they instantly know he was claiming to be Jehovah and picked up stones to kill him for blasphemy?? Because they knew their Bible and in Deu 32:39 in the LXX it says: “ιδετε ιδετε οτι εγω ειμι, και ουχ εστιν θεος πλην εμου” (Look! Behold, that I AM, and there is no God except me) and Isa 43:10 - "You are my witnesses," declares Jehovah, "and my servant whom I have chosen ινα γνωτε και πιστευσητε και συνητε οτι εγω ειμι” (that you might know and might believe and might understand that I AM). The Jews understood what Jesus was saying… but they refuse to acknowledge the crystal clear point John is making-Jesus is Jehovah, co-equal in nature to Jehovah the Father. Furthermore, A similar Greek construction to John 8:58 is found in Ps 89:2 which says,“before the mountains were, you are.” In Greek it says, προ τοῦ ὄρη γενηθῆναι (“came to be”)… συ εἶ (“you are” the second-person equivalent of εγω ειμι). “The Greek sentence here reflects the same grammatical structure as John 8:58 and uses the same verbs to make the same contrast between that which is created and temporal and the one who is uncreated and eternal.”(2) Murray Harris also says,“the timeless εἰμί points to the absolute, independent, and eternal existence of Jesus; it places Jesus ‘in God’s existence beyond time, in his eternal present’.”(3) The translators of the NWT understand the implications of this so they errantly translate εγω ειμι as a historical present, “I have been.” The NWT (1950 ed.) has a footnote that says, “It is not the same as ὁ ὤν (ho ohn’, meaning ‘The Begining’ or ‘The I Am’) at Exodus 3:14, LXX.” Dan Wallace points out that “this is a negative admission that if ἐγὼ εἱμί is _not_ a historical present, then Jesus is hear claiming to be the one who spoke to Moses at the burning bush, the I AM, the eternally existing ONe, Yahweh (cf. Exod 3:14 in the LXX, ἐγὼ εἱμι ὁ ὤν).”(4) Wallace demonstrates that there are several problems grammatically with seeing εγω ειμι as a historical present: 1) “historical presents are usually wedged in between aorist (or imperfect) _indicatives,_ not infinitives.” 2) This would be the only historical present in the NT that uses εἰμί. 3) This would be the only historical present in the NT that is not in third person. For these reasons, Wallace says “The burden of proof, therefore, lies with the one who sees εἰμί as _ever_ being used as a historical present.”(5) JW’s will also object saying that εγω ειμι is used by people who were not claiming deity (cf. Joh 4:26, 9:9, etc.). This is correct, εγω ειμι “does not necessarily imply deity when it contextually implies, ‘I am (the one in question)’... [but] when ‘I am’ lacks even an implied predicate, however, it becomes unintelligible except as an allusion to God’s name in the Hebrew Bible or LXX….The absolute use of the expression in 8:58, contrasted explicitly with Abraham’s finite longevity, clearly refers to a Jewish name for God.”(6) Contextually, grammatically, and intertextually, there is no question that Jesus was claiming to be the “I AM” of Deu 32:39 & Isa 43:10, and Exo 3:14. In other words, Jesus claimed to be God. (1) Murray J. Harris, Exegetical Guide to the Greek New Testament: John (Nashville, TN: B&H Publishing, 2015). (2) Robert M. Bowman Jr. and J. In Revelation 5 “the focus moves from God, enthroned in heaven and surrounded by adoring and worshiping elders and living creatures, to the Lamb who alone is worthy to open the scroll of destiny. The worship of God for his role in creation gives way to the worship of the Lamb for his work of redemption.”(1) In vv. 1-7 Jesus is presented as the Davidic Messiah who has conquered through his death and now is publically enthroned as vice-regent on the throne next to his Father. In v. 8 heavenly creatures prostrate themselves before Jesus and present him with the prayers of the saints (prayer is directed to Jesus). In v. 9 they sing “a new song” to Jesus, echoing the words of Psalm 98:1: “Sing Sing to Jehovah a new song, For he has done wonderful things. His right hand, his holy arm, has brought about salvation” (NWT). “In the OT a ‘new song’ is always an expression of praise for God’s victory over the enemy… The hymns in vv 9-12 emphasize Jesus’ deity more than most other passages in the NT, addressing the Lamb in the same way as God is addressed in 4:11 and 5:13, especially in the clause ‘worthy are you.’ The simple fact that worship is given to the Lamb in vv 9-13 demonstrates his deity, since John implies elsewhere that worship is due only to God (22:9).”(2) The whole scene echoes that of Daniel 7:9-14 where the divine Son of Man receives a kingdom from the Ancient of Days. In v. 13-14 we move to universal acknowledgement of Christ’s work and person, resulting in universal worship of _BOTH_ the Father and the Son (cf. Phi 2:9-11). Richard Bauckham points out that, “It is important to notice how the scene is so structured that the worship of the Lamb (5:8-12) leads to the worship of God and the Lamb together (5:13). John does not wish to represent Jesus as an alternative object of worship alongside God, but as one who shares in the glory due to God. He is worthy of divine worship because his worship can be included in the worship of the one God.”(3) In other words, John sees Jesus as a distinct _person_ from the _person_ of the Father but subsisting in the one God, ie. the trinity, which is why both Jesus and the Father can be worshipped. Robert Mounce points out that, “Nowhere else in the literature of worship will one find a scene of such unrestrained praise and adoration.”(4) This is significant because it is directed to _BOTH_ the Father and the Son equally, making it clear that Jesus shares in the glory of the Father (cf. Isa 42:8). (1) Robert H. Mounce, The Book of Revelation: Revised (Grand Rapids, MI: Eerdmans, 1998), ePub, 5:1-14. (2) G.K. Amen! As far as communion goes, they take a rather odd position. They don't technically do communion. This would be an interesting conversation for you to have with them just to learn their beliefs on it. But they have the memorial every year which is kind of their version of communion. Virtually nobody partakes. to a Jehovah's Witness most of them don't consider themselves to be part of the New Covenant, which as you know is a huge salvific issue. One question I like to ask them is that if Jesus said to do this in remembrance of me until he returns, isn't it odd that they still hold the memorial if they believe he's already returned invisibly in 1914?

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.'" M JESUS CHRIST The only-begotten Son of God, the only Son produced by Jehovah alone. This Son is the firstborn of all creation. By means of him all other things in heaven and on earth were created. He is the second-greatest personage in the universe. It is this Son whom Jehovah sent to the earth to give his life as a ransom for mankind, thus opening the way to eternal life for those of Adam's offspring who would exercise faith. This same Son, restored to heavenly glory, now rules as King, with authority to destroy all the wicked and to carry out his Father's original purpose for the earth. The Hebrew form of the name Jesus means "Jehovah Is Salvation"; Christ is the equivalent of the Hebrew Ma-shi'ach (Messiah), meaning "Anointed One."

Hi Melissa, Why don’t you use the JW app to show that that’s what they believe now? Watchtower has have official refutations against some of your points in their app. All a witness has to do is defer to the built in apologists that watchtower laid out for them. What do you think?
@MelissaDougherty
@MelissaDougherty 3 года назад
Hi! Yes, they have many 'refutations' to certain things, which is why I consider this a 101 type series. Going down the rabbit hole to 'refute their refutations' one by one takes a *lot* of time. For example, just their 'defense' of John 1:1 alone is an entire series in itself. Most of the references they use for their defense are misquoted, misused, from a channeled source, or from independent Bibles. If they do have any other legit sources, it's in the minority. To break this down is something for each person to decide if they want to do. Most of the time, I find that it's the thinking and questioning jw's that do this type of research.

Where you honest when you dropped the seed about John 14:14 and explained how there is a manuscript variant in John. Some have "me" in the text and some omit it in the text? You are one to bring up footnotes yet you miss to add that this variant is clearly noted and explained why it was left out of the NWT. Every translation has these times when they take one side or the other in a variant. What makes them a good translation is if they provide you with the information of the variant in a footnote as the NWT has done. “Ask,” ADIt and in agreement with 15:16 and 16:23; P66אBWVgSyh,p, “ask me.”

My friend, the Greek text of NA28 & UBS5 is ἐάν τι αἰτήσητέ με ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου ἐγὼ ποιήσω (If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it). There are two significant variants here. First, is the verse itself supposed to be here since it is missing in a few manuscripts. The support for the inclusion of this verse is P66, P75, א, Β, D, L, W, Δ, Θ, Ψ, et al. UBS5 rates the inclusion of this verse as {A}, ie. the text is certainly authentic. Second, there is a varient at με (me). While it is absent in some manuscripts (A, D, L, Ψ, et al), it is supported by P66, P75, א, Β, W, Δ, Θ, et al. UBS5 rates the inclusion με (me) as {B}, ie. the text is almost certainly authentic. In other words, there is no question that Jesus was directing his disciples to also pray to him. Yet, the NWT excludes it from their translation while claiming to use the very best Greek texts. If this variant was a {D} rating then the NWT would be justified in excluding it but the inclusion of με (me) has very very strong textual support. This is an example of the theological bias of the NWT translators exerting itself over the textual evidence, which is not honest. Murray Harris says, “Requests addressed to either the Father (v. 13) or the Son (v. 14) will be answered provided they are offered in the Son’s name (vv. 13-14). In the early church, prayers of thanksgiving or petition were normally directed to God the Father…but on occasion an individual believer (Acts 7:59-60; 9:10-17; 22:16, 19; 2 Cor 12:8) or a group of believers (Acts 1:24; 9:21; 1 Cor 1:2; 16:22; Rev 22:20) apparently invoked the Lord Jesus directly.” Murray J. Harris, Exegetical Guide to the Greek New Testament: John (Nashville, TN: B&H Publishing, 2015), ePub, 14:14.

@@kevinfromcanada4379 Please explain why we would ask in Jesus name if it is Jesus whom we are asking? ~This is an example of the theological bias of the NWT translators exerting itself over the textual evidence, which is not honest. It explains in the NWT exactly why they chose to omit me. When "me" is used it is in complete opposition to the below scriptures. John 15:16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last-and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. I've known a JW for around 6 years now and her position is that Jesus is not Micheal the archangel or an angel, but he is, in fact, a (small g) god. She shared with me the JW website and everything on there lines up with this. Have you looked at their website at all? I don't know if this updated theology has retconned the ability to pray to Jesus, maybe I'll ask her. Would like your thoughts on that, and tysm for creating such informative content!

Apparently, it's not that simple to show anything to the witnesses, at least the one that I talked to. I showed Philippians 2: 10-11 to 2 groups of JWs to show them why they should worship Jesus, the first one said, it is not about worship, it just means that we have to do everything in the name on Jesus, like praying (Their version says "in the name of Jesus" instead of "at the name of Jesus"), the second group told me that this particular verse was not for us. I've learned that they are allowed to lie to defend their belief. The only thing we can do for them, it's praying.

The best way to witness a Jehovah Witness is to show them how the Bible clearly talks about the Son Deity in Is6:9, John 1:1. Same nature with God in Phil2:6. Same Spirit Rom8:9, gal4:6. Last question to ask: Why did Stephen cry out to Jesus not His Father that was next to him to receive his spirit in Act7:59? It’s interesting to see what they do in the next verse. In verse 60 they replace Lord to Jehovah. According to their teaching it’s a sin to call on the name of Jesus. Avoid talking about the trinity. It won’t go anywhere. Just focus on the Son’s Deity and why he deserves to be worshipped. I recently left JW. If it was for the trinity doctrine I would still be with them. Don’t bring it up. It won’t do them any good.

So when Moses said the firstborn of all of Egypt would be struck down, both man and beast. He meant that the highest-ranking males of both man and cows and sheep would be struck down? It literally explains in Exodus 13:2 what is meant by firstborn. "The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me" Christians love to take the exception and call it the rule. The bible clearly states that David was APPOINTED or MADE to be the firstborn. "And I will appoint him to be my firstborn" Ps 89:27. Preeminence was the right or the inheritance of a firstborn. But this did not mean he could not lose this right or that God could not assign it to anyone he so chooses to make his firstborn.

Jesus is called the “firstborn” (πρωτότοκος) in Col 1:15. The word is found in both the Old Testament (Greek Septuagint) and the New Testament and is used both chronologically _and_ positionally. Chronologically: When this word is used chronologically, the meaning and emphasis is on birth order. For instance, in Genesis 35:23 Ruben is called the “firstborn” because he was, chronologically, Jacob's first child. Likewise, in 1 Samuel 17:13 Eliab is Jesse’s “firstborn” because he too was, chronologically, Jesse’s first child. Positionally: “Among the Israelites the firstborn son possessed special privileges. He succeeded his father as the head of the house and received as his share of the inheritance a double portion. For that reason, sometimes the meaning of the term is figurative, denoting priority or supremacy.”(1) So the word “firstborn” can be used positionally, and when it is, the meaning and emphasis is on the _position_ of the person-it is a title or rank. For example, “the firstborn of the lowly” (NWT) in Isa 14:30 is figurative, meaning that the poorest of the poor-a position. Then there is Ruben who, though he was chronologically the firstborn, because of sin he lost his _position_ of firstborn and the honor, favor and rank that was his because of his _position_ was given to Joseph (1Ch 5:1). Likewise, although David was the youngest in his family and the second king of Israel, Jehovah says, “I will place him as firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth” (Psalm 89:27 NWT). Clearly the word “firstborn” can be used as a positional title. Note: Psalm 89 was/is also considered messianic. So the question before us is, Is “firstborn” in Col 1:15 being used chronologically or positionally? Paul makes it clear by the context of the section that he intends for the word to be used as a title in a positional sense and not chronological. First, “if Paul wanted to say that Jesus was God’s first created creature, we would have expected him to use the adj. πρωτόκτιστος or πρωτόγονος (‘created first’) or πρωτόπλαστος (‘formed first’) instead of πρωτότοκος and v. 16 to continue the thought ‘for all other things were created in him’ ( ὅτι ἐν αὐτῷ ἐκτίσθη πάντα τα ά̓λλα).”(2) But Paul didn’t use πρωτόκτιστος or πρωτόγονος (“created first”) or πρωτόπλαστος (“formed first”), he used πρωτότοκος (“firstborn”) which can be used positionally as a title. Second, in v. 16 Paul gives the reason Jesus is called the “firstborn.” He says, “ὅτι,” a Greek word which can range from a weak “for” to the stronger “because.” Murray Harris points out that here ὅτι is the stronger notion, introducing the reason for Jesus’ superiority over creation: “Because in him all things were created.”(3) ===The NWT translators inserted “other” into the text because their theology forces them to translate “firstborn” chronologically. But had Paul wished to convey chronology he would probably have used a different word than πρωτότοκος and continued his thought saying, “for all other things were created in him” ( ὅτι ἐν αὐτῷ ἐκτίσθη πάντα τα ά̓λλα) but he didn’t do that. Rather, Paul says that “by him all things were created,” emphasizing his position as creator of the universe. Furthermore, it is important to note that not only was everything created “by him” but they were created “for him.” Wait! Wasn’t everything created for Jehovah? Yes. Jesus is Jehovah-Jehovah the Son. Third, Paul reinforces v. 16 by stating that Jesus isn’t only the creator but he is also the sustainer of the universe-a position. Forth, v. 18 says Jesus is “the head of the body, the congregation” which is a position. Fifth, v. 18 says Jesus is “the firstborn from the dead, that he might become the one who is first in all things.” This second use of “firstborn” could be either chronological or positional since Jesus was the first to rise from the dead in an immortal body and has the ranking position as the risen Lord above all who will be resurrected. So which is it? Paul tells us in the same sentence saying, “that he might become the one who is first in all things.” The Greek word for “the one who is first” means “to be in the first position, with the implication of high rank and prominence - ‘to be the first, to have superior status.’”(4) Just as Jesus positionally ranks above all creation-because he is the creator-and positionally ranks above the church as its head, so too he ranks above those who will be resurrected. There is nothing in this entire section that supports interpreting “firstborn” in v. 15 chronologically. The word “firstborn” can be used chronologically or positionally. JW’s want to snatch the word from the context and give it a chronological meaning. But Paul clarifies in the subsequent verses what he means by the word “firstborn.” The entire passage is speaking about the preeminent position that Jesus has as the creator of the universe, the sustainer of the universe, the head of the Church, the risen Lord. Far from Col 1:15 being a proof text for the creation of Jesus, it actually speaks of his deity. 1) J.D. Douglas and Merrill C. Hey, here is the video you mentioned with the street preachers: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7qLooZUchLg.html Actually not sure if it is THE video, but here he brings up the part about David being the firstborn, and that firstborn in the Greek New Testament means preeminent.

Did you ever think it might be better to preach the gospel like they did in Acts? Where was a trinity creed or the "deity of Christ" weaponized there and needed for salvation and to be Christian? I've asked you this before but you don't answer. Make disciples how THEY did, not how modern Christians try.

I think that it leads up to what you have referred to after you have their attention. Most people don't need preaching but good sound doctrinal teaching from God's word. If we cause them to reject Christ because of how we preached at them, then we lost their attention or interest in what we have to share causing them to think or ponder on it. Plus, if we share it with love then they will come to salvation by the Holy Spirit convicting their hearts not really by anything we have shared with them in the first place. I get what you say about modern so called Christians. You don't want to candy coat Christianity and not share the gospel of Jesus Christ! : )

Isa 9 mighty God vs all mighty God so you often get Jesus is just a mighty God so you can say that all references to mighty God in the old testament is Jesus and the all mighty is God ? Yet there is 1 God ?
