I may have overdone it but I'm tired of using duct tape to hold my trays and pots together. I did a lot of research and found bootstrap farmer supplies that are not only built to last, but these are going to streamline my seed starting process and save me time and space! #BootstrapFarmer

Purchased Bootstrap Farmer trays and all kinds of pots, etc. Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE their products. They will be legacy investments. We live in Appalachian Mountains with temperatures from -15 to 102 degrees. They are amazing and perfect sizes even the thumb holes in the 6 cells (my favorite over the 72 and 162 cell starting trays - can't carry those to the garden, 6 cells are just easy). Also, their humidity domes are great for seed starting and shrub propagation. And incredible investment for the seed starters. Can't say enough about them and worth way more than the cost!

I totally agree! I am really impressed with them as well. I'm so glad I was able to invest in some good quality supplies.

In the Upper Midwest we get -60 or colder up to 110s. It gets humid there too...nothing like Florida or whatnot but still sticky. We are living in the South now and gardening here is SO different. It's going to take some getting used to.

Love the idea of better quality containers! But at the moment my budget is busted. They will be part of my next shopping spree. Thank you for introducing them to us!

They are certainly an investment. A few years ago I never would have imagined that I would spend this amount of money on things to put dirt in!

It's funny this video popped up just now. My Bootstrap Farmer trays/domes came in today. The place they ship from is 45 minutes from me. Small world. Good luck with everything this year!

They are so sturdy. As we've been starting seeds this year, my kids have even commented on how sturdy they are!

Beautiful trays! I love all the colors. I would love to see your seed starting set-up. Do you have a high tunnel or green house etc? I’ve only recently found your channel and loving your content approach!

I dream of having a high tunnel and a greenhouse. I don't have either of those but my husband assures me that the greenhouse is coming soon! I will be doing a video very soon on my seed starting set up:). Glad you are enjoying the content!

One Big change is I’m not starting seeds too soon anymore. The up potting is time consuming, expensive, takes up space, too much babysitting and not necessary. I’ve found the plants won’t take off in cold soils and they soon get to size quickly if set out when it’s warm enough. We are in a lower elevation also and last year there was no warning of a freak late freeze. We had 90s all May (frost date May 12th) and the last weekend Many plants were set back or killed. This weather is not normal and it’s advancing growth too early in spring and the new growth can’t take those freezes. I lost a grape, berries and potatoes knocked to the ground. Locally winery is up on a bluff and they lost 95% of grapes. Last year it was so hot in winter it was raining and October was colder-36*F-than December at 52*F and rain. We had only one week of subzero this winter and the January thaw should only be Normally a few days is turning into weeks with a prediction of 50*F next week-that’s crazy. They say any snow in future will melt quickly-who knows as weird things happen. And for the reasons above I will not start winter sowing as last year this same weather killed many. Also there is no sense for me to run myself ragged starting those plants too early and juggling over-grown and budding plants as that sets them back. They are too busy wanting to bloom instead of growing roots the first month. For peppers in my garden roots are important and to try and stretch the harvest I will try a few in a low tunnel providing the soil is at least 55*F and below that they will just sit there and do nothing. Our peppers take off in the fall and there are a ton waiting to ripen and the freeze hits. So hoping low tunnel gets them along quicker-we will see.😊 Love Bootstrap Farmer products! Just got my latest additions today!🎉🎉. A couple years back I started with trays from Mega Greenhouse as I was Done with those leaky weak trays! Last year seen the root pruner packs and 2.5” pots. Yes the pots tip and this year they are getting the holders also😅. My new idea is those micro green trays are perfect to germinate seeds of smaller quantities, older seeds that the germination might not be so good and perennials. If any of them need cold stratification it will be easy to bag them up and refrigerate. At least I know my fridge temp remains cold unlike outside. By using these mini incubators I can see how many seeds were viable and pot up from there instead of wasting space and soil with empty cells. The 2.5” pots I prefer to plant faster growing seeds in them to prevent up potting. I have a soil blocker, but I just never get around to doing it. I try to avoid starting seeds too early thereby avoiding up potting. Also waiting to get closer to spring and heat the greenhouse and keep the mess out there. I have two large gardens and always give away many seedlings. So I will end up potting some up in pots that don’t need returned. That was my biggest concern was getting my trays and pots back-right away! Yes, they are that nice that others like them also😂. Happy growing!

Im with you on not starting too soon. We have such a long season in SC that I am going to wait a little longer this year to start my seeds. We've also had late freezes the last two years and unfortunately, my garden sits at a low point so I can get a frost at 34 degrees. We lost all our fruit tree blossoms last year. It was so sad. It is so nice that you have a low tunnel and greenhouse. Those are on my list for the future!

@@MorganHillFarms we refurbished parts from a friend’s GH that blew over. Built about a 6x8’ lean to onto garden shed and it’s easy to heat. It will need a rebuild soon and will add a heat sink in floor and add 2’. Yes, we are in a low area also 🙄. I use 9 wire to make hoops for tunnel and works pretty well, but not as sturdy as conduit or PVC pipe. I think I will need pipe for taller peppers. You have such a long season, so jealous ☺️. We had 41.7*F today. Really warm for Z5a, WI. I almost threw the towel in last year after 90s in May and an unwarned freak frost last weekend of May. The winery is up high and lost 95% of grapes.

I'm not sure I can afford both the sprouting trays and the seed trays (I'm talking flat bottom no wholes), do you think that I could go with the sprouting trays and make them work for my seedlings as well in the spring? I want to start adding MICROGREENS to our diet in the winter so we have fresh greens all year hopefully.
@MorganHillFarms
@MorganHillFarms 8 месяцев назад
I think you could make those work for micro greens and starting specific seeds. For example, you can sow onions very heavily in those ( they separate very nicely) and tomatoes can also be sown heavily and don't mind being handled to be up potted once they sprout and grow for a couple of weeks. I would think you might want some individual pots for other types of seeds though. Some things don't like their roots to be disturbed. They do have some containers that contain 6 pots. I used to use cookie sheets before I have 1020 trays to hold my seedling pots. Did that answer your question?

@@MorganHillFarms Yes I was looking at the 6 cell containers and considering getting some, thank you for your advice. Happy gardening.

What keeps the soil from falling out of the cell packs since the bottom hole is so large?
@MorganHillFarms
@MorganHillFarms 8 месяцев назад
Once you wet the soil, it stays in place. When the seedling grows, the roots help to keep the soil contained so once you take it out of the air pruning tray, the soil block and seedling stay intact.
