On Saturday 18th November 2023, a rare spectacle was seen on the ECML. Two charters ran from King's Cross to York both hauled by LMS Black Fives. The first was Railway Touring Company's The Christmas White Rose, which ran via Grantham, and was hauled by 44871. The second was run by Steam Dreams and hauled by 45231 The Sherwood Forester, running about 30 minutes behind 44871 and routed via Lincoln instead. I went to Peterborough to catch the pair before they went their separate ways at Werrington Junction.
