This revival is TOO DARN HOT 🔥🔥Today, we're seeing the gorgeous revival of one of Broadway's most beloved classics, KISS ME KATE!

Hey theatre geeks, cult members, and Kelli O'Hara stans! Today, we're heading over the gorgeous, remastered, and visually stunning revival of the Broadway musical KISS ME, KATE! This revival stars queen Kelli O'Hara, Will Chase, Corbin Bleu, and Stephanie Styles to name a few. KISS ME, KATE is one of my all time favorite golden age musicals and means a ton to me personally (I played Lilli/Kate opposite my best friend in high school, one of my absolute most favorite stage experiences!). In today's vlog, we'll check out the revival, run into some subscribers, and do a lil mini review on the revival of KISS ME, KATE. Also a lil review / mukbang on the taco bell blended frosé. it's pretty dope and I would like one now please.

Kelly is doing photos with people now?! She wasn't doing it at opening preview :( Also, the first time I met Stephanie in person (during previews of newsies on tour) she did a 180 jump turn and yelled my name when she saw me. After we talked on twitter for maybe 5 total tweets about Once Upon A Time and Disney. She's just that good. I HAD to go see opening preview because I just couldn't wait to see her broadway debut. I'm so happy for her. Her belting upside down on the ladder.... unreal.

Really loved hearing all your praise & kudos & congratulations to the actors! IDK why it just feels really good to hear such sweet, genuine enthusiasm about others' performances and opportunities. As for changing revisions, I think it's good for the creative team to think critically about what impact their work will have in the world. If they feel that keeping every line & stage direction 100% the same would have a negative impact or make real existing problems worse in any way, I see no problem changing it so long as it's done thoughtfully. But I think they should try to open conversations about it somehow, not just erase it without comment. All just my take! :)

I think the sitch with KMK along with Tootsie (because I saw both a couple weeks ago) is that they were doing musical comedy but didn’t want it to be just that they had to leave a message. Which isn’t necessarily bad but when it’s forced in I think it’s even worse than if not there. For I am Ashamed that song is literally hilarious and the fact that they changed it to be more of a general statement didn’t exactly fit in the play? I’m happy they didn’t want to say those words but I also think that if it was played comedically it wouldn’t matter and it kind of just confused the show. But that’s just my opinion on it all haha

My school did Kiss Me Kate last year and none of us had ever really heard of it but we loved it so much and I think I really grew in confidence being in the ensemble of that show. I still don’t think it’s a fantastic show and it’s kinda sexist but it really holds a place in my heart💜

I really want this show to tour 😭 my mom and i love this musical ❤️ also I kind of like that they kept the original vibe of the show and made it less sexist (I only listened to the album and watched the tony performance, haven’t seen it) thank you for another great video kat!! ilysm also I have an audition on Thursday wish me luck 😂

I saw it a few weeks ago, and OMG, was it fantastic. Choreography was one of my favorite parts of the show, and I cannot rant enough about how much I stan Stephanie Styles. She and Corbin Bleu were such a great on-stage couple!!!

I saw this in March and was SO MAD because I went with school and we were all "so tired" after the show (according to my drama teacher/the group leader, who didn't even ask us) so we didn't get to stagedoor. I'm still FUMID about this, sitting here with my unsigned playbill and my phone with way more storage than I intended after that night.

I found it really interesting to hear your thoughts on how the revival of Kiss Me, Kate changed aspects from the original musical to make it more tolerable for a 2019 audience. I'm currently writing my final thesis at university on how musicals have adapted since the golden age to become more acceptable with a growing feminist audience, and Kiss Me, Kate is one of the musicals I am focussing on! It was great to hear your opinion as I live in the UK so wasn't able to see the revival myself!

As far as making changes to a show goes, I think it depends on how important the thing being changed is to the show and how the change affects the overall plot and meaning of the show. If the soul and meaning are still there, I think it’s okay. I was interested in seeing this as I’m a fan of the original show, but it looks like I won’t be able to see it since it’s not running for long. I’m really happy you got to see it and enjoyed it, though, and really liked hearing your review!

I don’t really know where I stand on changing the material. I think it all comes down to the show and what they’re changing. For example, I don’t like how they removed the spanking, but I also like what they did with “Woman are so simple”. So yeah, it really turns into this grey area in theatre.

If the show still gets everything across, while honoring the original material I think it's fine. I think the perfect way of doing that is making the characters more dynamic. Especially the female characters since these golden age shows tend to be very sexist. Or doing what kmk did with changing women to the more inclusive words. But it shouldn't be songs so important for the plot. If this makes any sense.

I don't like that they removed the "spank" part because that was my favorite part because it made me laugh so hard. I am ashamed that women are so simple being rewritten doesn't bother me, since the title itself is slightly problematic to a 2019 audience.

From what I understand, the reason Lilli left Fred was because he abused her so the fact that they end up together doesn’t sit right with me even with what changes they made.

Lilli & Fred broke up because of their egos-during the show within the show Lilli starts comedically bothering/ tripping him/etc. that’s when he spanks her, to embarrass her. Not hurt her ☺️

My non-theatre nerd opinion: If it is a product of a certain time period and changing/watering down/censoring lyrics or scenes changes the dynamic of it, stay faithful to the show or don't make it. Some plays/musicals/movies work when you tweak words/scenes or try to "modernize" them, some don't. Personally, I would prefer they stay true to the original and just present it as that - a presentation of a classic show, that has some problematic themes, but is a product of its time. Like on DVDs of old Looney Tunes cartoons, there is a foreward about the cartoons not being acceptable in this day & age, but this is how things were back when they were made. Just my two cents.

I don't like that they changed that. I don't agree with changing history to fit modern political correctness. Instead of getting offended, people just need to be glad about how far we've come since then and laugh at what can't be changed (the past). Yeah, it's kinda sexist, but just laugh at the fact people were once stupid enough to act and think like that and move on because 99% of America is perfectly accepting and tolerant now. Don't let the 1% ruin your day. That's all.
