Hi Tiff and Casey! Sonographer here that could possibly answer your question about the heart beat part of your exam. A lot of places especially here in Canada almost never do the doppler through the heart for the specific purpose of letting the patient hear the heartbeat since we want to reduce the energy that is sent to the baby. While in the US I do see its common to hear the heartbeat, the office you went to may be trying to be more conservative just to be on the extra safe side! Ultrasounds are safe but we want to always be cautious with throwing dopplers on for non-medical purposes which is to your benefit!
I have a question for you (since your a sonographer). At 20wks, we all have the big scan for our baby(ies). Why is the spouse not allowed in the room? Is this only in Canada🤔 My boyfriend almost had a heart attack. Let me explain loll We had been with fertility specialists for over 7yrs not being able to conceive. We were not in a pandemic, it was 4yrs ago. He legit thought the baby was dead bc they refused to have him in the room. After the scan was done. He had left the hospital and was crying in our car thinking that our baby had died🤦 I sat in the car showing him our baby pictures explaining that we were expecting a baby girl and that she was 100% healthy and well. But i never could explain why they didnt want him in the room. We are not married but we have been together for 15yrs+ in our own bought home and we both were with fertility specialist. Wierd hospital, wierd staff🤦
@@melaniesonier6493 Every place is different but most places I've be to at least let your partner come in for 5-10 minutes after the exam is completed. I'm sorry you had such a negative experience but I hope you know we have good intentions when we don't allow someone else in there. There are many reasons why we wouldn't want someone else in the room while we finish the entirety of the exam. It can be distracting causing us to miss things, they may think they see something wrong when we're just doing our regular scan, they may be taking videos which in all the places I've worked at is strictly not allowed, also sometimes the partner may not know everything about the patient and so when we ask sensitive questions like "How many times have you been pregnant? Have you had any abortions?" etc, it can put your patient in an uncomfortable position. The one place where I've been where the partner was allowed for the whole scan, it resulted in a lot of questions and as sonographers we cannot answer the majority of them since it is the doctor in the end who has to determine things based off our images, we are not qualified to give results.
There are many other reasons why we don't allow a partner in for the whole exam. But I do have to say a lot of places at least do a show and tell of baby to the partner at the end if everything is going well.
I'm so glad I read this! I'm 13 weeks pregnant and for the past 4 days I have using a baby doppler to listen to my baby's heartbeat . I would get so excited and see this as a opportunity to bond with my baby but now that I know I was putting her in distress I feel so bad! I'm honestly ready to put that thing away in a box and never use it again if it made my baby feel like that. Do you think I could've caused something? Does the doppler cause miscarriages?
aww tiny tiff casey nugget....It'd be really nice to hear about Tiff's experience with her first pregnancy with Isaac. And how she feels in comparison now. Like it's been a long while. And is she more confident with this one because she's had Isaac in the past or is it the opposite, etc.
I have a “thing” with numbers too. It would be crazy cool if baby was born 02/21/2022. Good luck with your guys’ pregnancy. Love you guys!!! Thanks for taking us along this journey. ❤️❤️❤️
Congratulations again! The first appointment is so exciting. I was able to hear my baby's heartbeat at 7 weeks. It was so fast! Mine was a transvaginal ultrasound. We were able to get super clear photos too! My journey is only a few weeks behind yours too!

Currently 4 weeks and 4 days waiting for my first appointment in a couple weeks ! Nausea and tiredness is kicking my ass but I’m so happy to feel it! Good luck to tiff and all the other mommas out here !
We are so close on pregnancy together. My last period was May 27th and I found out I was pregnant June 17th and my due date is Feb 25, 2022. I'm so happy for the both of you!
Congratulations! I’m in Canada and I also didn’t get to hear the heartbeat in my first ultrasounds. It’s also unfortunate because of COVID, my husband was not allowed in any of my appointments or ultrasounds. I had to FaceTime him during my final ultrasounds so he can see the baby.
17yrs ago my wife and I never thought we would be a parent. We actually gave up on it. Until one day my wife came home from 12hrs work and told me that she is pregnant. We found out my son was hitch hiking when my wife and I were on vacation at Disney world. He is 17 yrs old now. We call him a miracle baby because we never expected and he never gave us the terrible 2 . We never have problems with him. He is now working on getting his degree in Informatic. Life work in a mysterious way. Sometimes life does throw you down but you just need to get up learned from it and move on. When the time is right it will happen.
Omg still so excited for your guys and so excited to see your new journey everything is going to be ok Tiff you and Casey are blessed I think I agree with your mom everytime I see you I see pink
Right in the beginning of the video when you guys were in the car I literally had that feeling too, that it was twins. I have no idea why but no matter what it's gonna be so special 💛
I’m so excited! Can’t believe we are gonna be able to see your whole journey 😭❤️ god bless you always and your family 🙏 I’m so excited for your guys !!
We are pregnant and during the first ultrasound. The doctor said that in really early stages of the pregnancy hearing the heartbeat is not really good cuz the ultrasounds are heating the heart of the baby. That's why some doctors don't recommend to hear the first heartbeats and only let you see it :)
i had my first appointment at 8 weeks and i didn’t get to hear the heartbeat either. i got to hear it at 12 weeks with the doppler & the doctor said something about not being able to hear it yet with the ultrasound.
Praying a safe pregnancy ❤️ I miscarried while I was in my second trimester so I’m definitely hoping the best for you guys. Thank you for sharing your journey!!!!
