How gear review videos should be done - after extensive use, not after one trip because someone provided it for free.

That, sir, was a damn fine, intelligent and thorough review! There are RU-vid channels with hundreds of thousands and even over a million subscribers that could take lessons. I hope they do not, because I'd rather see enthusiastic, personably humble and naturally talented individuals garner a larger portion of the audience, views, positive comments and whatever income might be derived from RU-vid if that is their interest. Your honesty and, to repeat myself, thoroughness are refreshing. I especially appreciate how you stacked the components of the stove system onto the digital scale in a logical order. So many, especially marketing type people and their shills, misrepresent gear weight by emphasizing the "stove" weight alone when, if it is to be of any practical use, it the "system" we must carry. Age, illness, injury and a prolonged period of idleness associated with the latter two elements have me reevaluating my gear and abilities, not to mention my tolerance for misery 😂in the wild. In fact, I encountered your channel specifically because I am in the process of deciding if I want to be a "gram weenie" in the near future. Your video has made it easier for me to decide to stay with a fast-fold stove for the convenience. I already own a "Woodswalker" that only weighs 5 pounds (on my old kitchen spring scale) in its minimal, necessary configuration of stove and pipe assembly complete with spark arrestor and guy-lines. I enjoy the ambiance of firelight through the two glass panels. Add the carry bag and I'm probably close to two pounds over your Seek stove with the added glass door. So, I'll look at a few other brands and models to determine if I can perhaps pare off a pound or more while staying with about the same firebox capacity and folding convenience. However, I won't leave here without saying thank you, for the fine honest evaluation of the Seek Outside product.

Thanks for your review. Made me more confident about spending the hefty price tag on one as a back country idaho bow hunter and moto camper. It really does seem like exactly what I need, light weight and warm. I can deal with the other little hassles considering it will be predominantly used several miles into the mountains. Doesn't need to be pretty, just needs to work and be light.

I had mine for about 6 years myself. My old damper broke, the butterfly flap dislodged from the rod and I have the new one. It warped from my stupidity more than anything. There may be better out there but this was out long before the industry blew up. I’ve survived-2, -4, and -8F. I’ve been warm, cooked food and dried equipment. It speaks for itself.

Warping seems an obvious reality with any metal/fire combo (except cast iron). As long as it all fits together and functions good then the design is great! Nice seeing a 5 yr review! Thx!
@ItsGoodintheWoods
@ItsGoodintheWoods 6 месяцев назад
I agree. But I felt an obligation to point it out. There a a few other youtubers out there, one of them has a very large channel, that gets all his gear for free, that makes constant claims that a certain manufacturer of titanium stoves makes superior ( and much heavier) titanium stoves that don't warp. And that is BS. So I felt the need to make good note of the warpage. And how it isn't an issue

This is a fantastic review. I especially love all the “if… then this is not the stove for you.” I have a Winnerwell Nomad small that has been great (except I wish I’d gotten a bigger one). The nomad is great for hot tenting if I don’t have to walk too far or can pull it on a sled but I’ve been wanting to go further and have been looking at the titanium stoves. Nice to support a USA company too. Also really glad to see that yours has held up for 5 years and that window is a great addition to it. Hey the link for the glass door is actually to a sausage video.

@ItsGoodintheWoods 4 месяца назад
oh man....thank you for that information. I believe I fixed the link.. Those winnerwell stoves are amazing. I have the Large Nomad View.....it is a completely different monster from these seek stoves. But it is 34 lbs lol. Worth it in the right situation. These Seek stoves are incredible! When it comes to packing your gear into the woods, these are hard to beat. The size to weight ratio is incredible. And that glass door!!! It is pretty hard to find a better ultralight stove. I can not say enough good about it in that regard. I highly recommend it but, it's not for everyone lol. Thank you for watching, commenting and letting me know about the faulty link. I appreciate it

This review is perfect and hits the nail right on the head. I've used my SO stove for a few years now and I'll admit I wasnt sold off the hop. Especially when you consider the USD to CAD exchange, its real pricey. But over time I've learned its quirks and how best to run it and its bullet proof. No regrets at all. I can also confirm their customer service is top notch. They've gone above and beyond everytime I've contacted them. They've also recently added a glass door to their website at a pretty decent cost. Ill be looking at that next.

Their version of the glass door appears to be quite nice. I like how they mounted it in a frame. The door makes such a large difference. Well worth the money and weight. Thank you for your feedback on my review. I appreciate it. It is always good to hear from people that have had similar experience with the same product. Seek is expensive, but their quality is tip top, just like their customer service. I hope you get many more years of use out of it. Cheers

Mine's 8×10.5×14, and I have only had it for a year and a half. I have only used it 4 times so far due to a busy schedule, part of which was spent hiking 5 months on the Appalachian Trail (4 actually hiking and one off to recover from severe plantar fasciitis). I only hiked 1,075 miles because I slipped in the mud, overcompessing my left knee and tearing the meniscus in two places, so, no 2023 thruhike for me! I plan on attempting another thruhike in 2025, if I heal up enough (I'm 70 now, so who knows). I will be getting out this winter for sure, even if it's just a drive up and short hike in. Steak and beer will definitely be on the menu. Thanks for your channel. It helps me get the feel of being out there when I can't. Tinker, AT halfway, 2023.
@ItsGoodintheWoods
@ItsGoodintheWoods 6 месяцев назад
You have one of the bigger models! I'm jealous. If I could do it all over again, I would get a larger model. 1,075 miles is a good push. Sorry to hear about your knee. I hope that heals up for you. Enjoy your winter season and take it easy on that knee. Steak and beer in front of the woodstove sounds like an excellent way to heal up!

Good Tip on using the buckle strap. I had an old seek outside tent stove but it was too small and I sold it. Do you think you can get an extended burn using hardwood?
@ItsGoodintheWoods
@ItsGoodintheWoods 4 месяца назад
Using good hardwood helps. But, a few hours is all I can get before the stove needs stoking again. Nature of the beast. But if you keep feeding it aggressively, once you build up a good large bed of coals, they can keep for quite some time.

Would you recommend rolled or nested stove pipe?
@ItsGoodintheWoods
@ItsGoodintheWoods 2 месяца назад
I am all about the rolled stove pipe. So much lighter and much more packable. If weight is a concern, rolled is the way to go. My stove pipe is over 5 years old and going strong. The most important thing is to take your time when rolling it out the first time. That is where people struggle. It is not as bad as people make it out to be. All that said, if you don't care how much something weighs, you would be better off with a nesting pipe. A nesting pipe would be much too heavy for this stove though
@00Klingon
@00Klingon 6 месяцев назад
Seems like a neat design. The only thing that seems off is the price even if it is lightweight, considering it contains about $120 worth of titanium that you could buy online and maybe a couple dollars worth of hardware. Factor in some labor and machining to cut and fold the pieces, it seems like $200-250 would be do-able (and that's not factoring buying your materials in bulk). Am I missing something?
