I was literally just about to buy one of these, but then I found out about MPA rifles! So glad I did my research. The Seekins are nice but for the same money I think you get way more with a MPA PMR Pro 2.
Thanks for the vid. Purchased one earlier this year, before the Pro model was available. Before I received it, I visited HQ while on a trip and staff gave me a tour (I really appreciated that). I love a lot of things about the HIT but overall I'm a bit disappointed. The big issues: the bolt was sticky out of the box (even after I cleaned it and put on a light coat of lube on it) and nowhere near as nice as my buddy's Tikka. After working the bolt a lot, it's better but it's finicky and still sticks occasionally if I don't push it exactly straight on the closing cycle of operation. When opening the bolt it will sometimes just pop right out the back without the bolt release being touched. It happens at least once every time I take it out or if I'm dry firing. Smaller issue (QC): The handguard was clearly not centered around the barrel and I had to readjust the screws. It wasn't hard to do, but it shows sloppy work and inattention to detail. It shipped with a Magpul 5 round that was junk. Not a huge deal, but again it makes for a poor customer experience. The follower doesn't work and leaves the 5th round pointing down and unable to load - 50% of the time. I replaced the mag of course. I ordered their longest Arca rail to attach (11"), but now that the Pro model is out, I can see my rail is not the same as the Pro version - which seems to be closer to 13" (apparently only available if you buy the Pro model with the other upgrades?). On a positive note, it's a 0.5 MOA rifle with factory ammo (maybe better with a better shooter and I've only tried Hornady 140 ELD so far). I also love Seekins' stated customer guarantee, but it seems growth is outpacing their ability to deliver with consistency the quality for which they're known and customer service takes days or more to respond. Note - I installed an American Rifle Co M-Brace scope mount and it interferes with the chamber dust cover (I have to leave it open).
Very thorough response, thanks for that. The bolt will definitely smoothe up. As for bypassing the bolt stop, let them know on this, they did have a few defective bolt stops that they will care for asap.
Thanks for the reply and tip. I did contact SO and they are taking care of me. On a positive note, I took the rifle to a long range class at Modern Day Sniper with Caylen Wojcik and it performed admirably (I’m the weak link) at all ranges out to 1400 yds + (paired with a Vortex Gen 3 6-36). I shot sub 1/2 MOA zero groups with Hornady 6.5 CM 140 ELD Match. It’s a shooter.
Great video thanks! Love the rifle, considering getting one when no longer back ordered which is what led me here. The weight tho, I might choose the Element instead since I'm not shooting competition. I guess if the market makes a big swing back I could get both!
Mr. Baney!! Good to see you back on the RU-vids. Do you have a weight on this fine rifle? I bet you could sneak in a hunt or two with it also. Love the dust cover for that very reason.
I have been a fan of seekins rings as well for almost 20years now...hard to go wrong with them. I do have a smattering of others though. Lots of great options out there.
