Sefris of the hidden ways is here to show you that sometimes slow combo is in fact worse than fast combo. #magicthegathering #mtg #mtgcommunity #cardgame #mtgcommander
There is at least one trudtworthy baldman. When the Duke Ulder Ravengard player says they are going to drop exactly 3 nuclear bombs on your family, it happens. Day 28 for a roast.
Same. In particular the part about a game win not even being the goal. I've heavily modified my dungeon of death precon over the last year, multiple times, and from beginning til present never once have I had a clear win con except "be the only person with board presence".
I personally like it. If you build your deck around doing what black and white do best (reviving people, payment optional) and alloy that with a decent removal system from blue, then include a handful of ways to trigger the dungeon, it really does go by 1 small dungeon per turn once you have ramped up, and the dungeons are like a sampler platter of all of the different effects you could build a deck around.
@Lightmagician60 I wouldn't go that far. Being able to always have a source of life drain via is actually pretty handy, because it means I don't need to find a Corpse Knight to combo off.
A great Sefris deck can pile so many venture triggers it's more like backward long-jumping through these dungeons. The tricky part is lining up an initiative trigger to happen at the right time each time.
I bought the precon initially and disassembled it to make Sen Triplets (which I and everyone else hated). When Baldur's Gate introduced the initiative it really was the missing piece I needed so I made Sefris into an Esper Dragons deck with a dungeon theme and it's one of the most fun decks to play
As much as I don't like Sefris, I do have to give it flavor credit, because they really do make every commander game feel like a slow, irritating dungeon crawl
I still distinctly remember one of the first times I played my Sefris deck (built around the party and dungeon mechanics - no big fat reanimation targets). I chump blocked when someone attacked me, and by the time I finished resolving the resulting tidal wave of dungeon triggers, someone asked me if I was finished with my turn. Bro, we're still in the middle of the damage step - my turn is next.
I have a Sefris blink-reanimate deck that I only bring out when my opponents are running their more bullshit decks. Basically a pile of infinite loops with counter spells and a couple of spell recursion etb creatures that I trigger again and again to always have a response to my opponents' attempts to put stop me from exploding into a 20 minute play sequence on their turn that ends with me ending them before the Farewell they just cast can resolve.
Serfris is one of my 13 reasons I stg. Regardless, this is month 5 nearing month 6 patiently requesting Titania, Nature’s Force. Sarulf will also do if titania isn’t in the cards
Skullbriar, the Walking Grave. My favorite deck because I get to make racecar drifting noises as I slam it from the command zone sideways into someone's face turn 2.
Seconded for Skullbriar, that lad is F R U S T R A T I N G to remove, there's only like ~30 cards in the game that reliability disassemble him and they're all hyper-niche or useless otherwise.
As a Sefris player its always fun to watch the despair on your enemys faces when you assemble the sheoldred/it that betrays combo and let no one have anything anymore 😄
This is the most spot on review I've seen. As a Sefris player my goals are typically beyond the table's understanding and often even my own. Whenever it's my turn I'm doing so much janky shit that will ultimately amount to nothing and fizzle out or will drop a nuclear bomb and there is no in-between.
I'm so glad you made one of these for the only deck I've managed to not get bored of and keep together for years now. I love this Rube Goldberg machine so much. I highly recommend playing Fleshbag Marauder tribal. It is the funniest shit in the world and makes your table very upset (my playgroup enjoys this kind of antagonism).
@@KnowChances My list currently runs six. Four of them at 3mv and two at 4mv. I'm pretty sure there are more, though. I've been keeping a close eye on whenever a new one is printed or reprinted that I didn't see initially.
@@Horchata4lyfe Which one aren't you playing? There's five 3mv ones (fellow Sefris enjoyer). Demon's Disciple, Fleshbag Marauder, Gravelighter, Merciless Executioner, and Plaguecrafter.
I used to have a serious deck, took it apart for parts but it was pretty good. Also 53 days of wanting a Nekusar vid now. Just think, I could die tomorrow and the only thing I wanted was that video. I could die miserable. (Hopefully I don't, but you never know)
Man, this is perfect. Not only do I play Sefris, but my best friend's name is Jeremy, AND one his favorite restaurants is Olive Garden. This could not hit any closer to home. Well done sir!
Hey maldhound, I’m trying to get my format some momentum It’s a doubleton (2 copies of a card) EDH variant. I call it Idol -Any legendary permanent can be your commander (Idol) - 60 card minimum (you can have more then 60) -No color identity restrictions - 20 life starting My goal for this format is to have the atmosphere of commander, but have the games be faster. I also don’t like dealing with 100 cards I prefer 60. Much easier shuffle and build decks. Sometimes I would like to play more than two games of Magic when I go to my friends house
I loved sefris when she came out. I loved it with “etb venture” and clones to make it so that I would just bring the entire graveyard back every time someone “dealt with the problem” but failed to get rid of the graveyard.
Fantastic video 😆 The energy in this one makes me want to actually request a card for once. If you haven't already, let's see "Xenagos, God of Revels" 😏
You see Mald, *She* ventures into the dungeon once a turn, but *other* people completing the dungeon triggers her, so with Delver's Torch, and the 2 drop deathtouch knight that ventures on every attack, you could venture into the dungeon 90% each turn, triggering her almost every turn
My Sefris deck was based around ETB infinite combos where I’d get something like Radiant Solar, Panharmonicon, Elesh Norn, or a myriad of different dudes and combine them with creatures that entered the dungeon on ETB to make infinite combos and drain my opponents out by infinitely going into the dungeon. Terrible times we’re had.
this is exactly how i made my Sefris but i also added the initiative cards and the double room effect guy so i could also then look at the top 20 cards of my deck for the next 10 minutes
@@own492 oh absolutely. The best is when you barely don’t have enough to infinite so you have to physically play it out for a thirty minute turn until you finally find the fourth piece that completes your convoluted combo and everyone immediately starts scooping up their shit and sigh in relief.
Sefris is actually a surprisingly potent commander. Just from the precon, all you need is a Panharmonicon for an infinite dungeon combo. Granted, it's a 4-card combo that needs Sefris on the field, but still.
The dungeon mechanic sounded awesome at first but then I realized I am bad at making decisions in a timely manner so I just pick one at the beginning of a game in secret instead. It's usually Tomb of Annihilation, I think it's cool sounding. Also I wish I could make Bahamut work, I know Tiamat can because I watched someone summon Fizban's Treasury at all once on turn five
I love my Sefris deck. I focused on dungeons, and CMC 3 or less. Made a Timit deck without realizing it hahaha. Yes, I used academy manufactor and time sieve. Radiant Solar is a gem. W: discard it, gain 3, venture. 2 dungeon triggers, sometimes 3 if it’s your reanimation target. I made one guy scoop by using ashnod’s altar, sun titan, karmic guide and radiant solar. Talk about speed running Phandelver
Not to mention, you can venture into dungeons outside of using her ability and get the reanimation, and she has the perfect combo for unlimited dungeon ventures in her colours (blue/black. Says hello to Rooftop Storm Acererak)
Got any thoughts about any of the Raised By Giants combos? My personal favorite is Baeloth Barrityl Entertainer. Goading everything with less than 10 power, profiting off their deaths, and then stabbing your friends with your gruul voltron commander damage feels like a true Joker moment.
I once suffered through an agonising long game against Sefris where at the end the player agreed to play a different deck for game two only for a second player to get their Sefris deck out. It was a long evening.
