Sega 32X Console & Games Overview 

If Sega had gotten this out a year earlier and gone all in by producing the Sega Neptune all-in-one unit, this may have been a success.

i love the 32x. all the version of games for it are incredible. virtua racing 32x is so cool. maybe it's because I love low poly games, but man what a system. it would have been awesome if they released the neptune, the 32x stand alone console...

Love some of the 32x games. Virtual Racing, Space Harrier, and Afterburner are fantastic arcade ports. Another great video John!

The RF Shields (metal clips) are not needed. Sega only included those to comply with regulation. I’ve been playing mine for decades without those clips without frying my system. Great video. Love your collection.

There are a few sega cd games I really liked as a teenager Star Wars arcade being one of my faves.

Nice overview on the 32X, it's an underrated add on that people talked down about for so long that many are just now starting to see that while it does have a small library there are some gems in there. Virtua Fighter is definitely better on 32x than the first run on Saturn.

I'm currently having some enjoyment playing 32X Games via Emulation. More fun than i thought to be honest. Virtua Racer is easily my favourite Game on the System. The 32X probably has the most fun and playable version of Virtua Racer and that includes the excellent Arcade version too. VR is a very playable Game and maintains a decent sense of speed to it to this very day, and is fun to just pick up and play. Easily one of the finest 16-Bit era Racing Games ever made, and the 32X version is the best of the lot.

I actually have great love for the 32X. developers didn't get time to shine or the effort but there are some great gems on it!

The 32X adapter you show is called the 32X Extension Unit. It's not for TV compatibility. It does nothing. It's just a terminal. It was there to comply with FCC regulations. Only the first 150,000 32X units included it.

I got the 32x for christmas that year and still have it. It was awesome! I have Doom for 32x as well. Didn't know if you mentioned Doom

FYI, the 32x version of Night Trap isn't censored. Only the "blue box" Sega CD version is censored. The 32x version is essentially a port of the 3DO version which is uncensored with higher resolution video than the original Sega CD release. :-)

The cables were hard to find even back in the day. John, how many systems do you actively keep hooked up? Or do you play on repro consoles to keep things simple?

John great video! The clips for the genesis cart slot are only for the handstands that the fcc made these companies go thru to stop non existent interference. I assure you that they do nothing but ground the cages together, which isn't necessary to work. I dint even use the ones I have because they scratch the cart slot up.

Are these all the 32x games you own or just those you feel worth mentioning? because I couldn't seem to find Doom in the video

When my brother took back his model 1 Genesis he lost the adapter cable for the model 1 to 32x. To this day I both can't find it and can't find another online as they barely come up. Still heartbroken. While the console was handled badly games like Virtua Fighter showed what it could have done. I wish the Neptune got more development as it would have been cool.

Blackthorne for the 32X is the best version. Better than snes and pc versions. It has better graphics and more stages

Those metal clips need to be installed to maintain the 32X's FCC compliance to not create RF interference.

Hey I'm a big 32x collector. Personally, I found Pitfall much harder to find than Deon Sanders but that was just my experience. Have you ever heard of or know anything about the Virtua Fighter Fighting pack? It's a big box 32x package that comes with a tshirt and VHS training tape. I bought it about 5-6 years ago for about $20 and haven't heard much info about it.

Are the metal clip things really necessary? I thought it was just an rf regulation from back in the day. I haven't had any issues without them, though I haven't logged a ton of hours.

When I was a kid I thought this was soo cool I didn't even know it didn't do that great I had it played it was fun for a wail want a other one but I keep getting broken or wires messing

Sega was on crack when they were releasing all these addons. Nintendo just added more "Special" chips to their cartridges instead. Now that was smart.

I definitely never noticed that Admiral Ackbar had a north Jersey accent. Then again, I'm from New Jersey.

You DO NOT need to have the clips/shields/plates for the Genesis model 1 or 2. I have had my model 1 Genesis connected to my 32x for years without using the metal shields and I have had not a single problem with the consoles. I repeat he is wrong in the video you do NOT need the metal shields/plates. Also there are plenty of stores on eBay where you can buy third party 32x to model 1 or 2 cables/cords/connections and for dirt cheap. Yes they'll come from China but it's worth the wait I waited just a bout three weeks for mine to come in the mail. The cords he said are hard to find are the original cords you can get third party connections easy on eBay.

I dug this video, but damn the 32X just doesn't have that many great games. The one I'm after the most right now is Kolibri... that game looks rad.

Is 32x an expensive thing to collect for? I ask because I know the library is small so I imagine a complete collection wouldn't take as long as most but I'm curious about the price.

Does anyone know where I can find metal clips or can I ground the 32x another way. I probably don’t have to worry about my genesis model 2 frying but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

I collected the 32X lineup back in the day. That was fun. I'm not sure it was supposed to be a "stop gap" since it game out only 6 months before the Saturn. I'm sure you've read all about the SEGA internal fight about the two systems. I think that SEGA USA really wanted this and the Neptune to be something they could sell games to people that didn't want to drop 400 on Saturn...dumb obviously

doom ,star wars, game amazing for a time hard to play on emulotors to only a few emulotors paly 32x games like Retro game center app in android. viruta figter and racer. mortal kombat 2.after burner much more advance than base games. if it have sonic cd 32x and sonic 3 not come to base sytems and ultimate mortal kombat 3 advanced version and sega cd terminator updated game sytem can hold and get more games and sell well actualy.

It's nice stuff but pretty expensive to me, atleast not as expensive as the Sega (32x) Cd.

I just picked up one of these with all the cables still in the original bags with the original wire tie on them and all the paperwork. It's the most complete retro item I own and I'm thankful the games suck so I'll never play it!

was on the fence when this came out. i was in the army and ultimately invested in game gear and games instead because i was always in the field.

Sega was stupidly dumb, should have supported better the Sega CD and then developed a good hardware for the 32bit era... I know it is easy to say this now, but Sega shoot their own feet with that add-on and with Saturn being hard as Fuc% to work with...

Just got one with 3 different cables. Would have loved to see how everything is hooked up. I think. Have it figured out but it's not real user friendly.

I've heard that there are a few prototype Sega Neptune's floating around at Sega of America Headquarters.

Hearing you say Web Of Fire was a late release is kind of funny because the system was only out for like 15 minutes lol. Not a fan of this add-on for many reasons. I think that if Sega had not released this, the Saturn might have had a much better chance at success. The quick release of 3 different consoles/add-ons in a 3 year period made it look like Sega didn't know what the hell they were doing.

I grew up with the Sega Genesis but never got the add-on xD Probably because I blew my console up by playing on it until it overheated ahahaha You can blame Chuck Rock II for that!
