Good work! For removing the little voltage regulator, I personally always use a fairly big knife tip on my iron so it comes off pretty easily. You can also use the knife tip for all of your other soldering for this since the solder points are pretty big. If you do more VMUs, try out a bigger tip and see how it treats you!

Thank you so much for that information! I'm definitely going to do this to all my VMUs so I will absolutely give that a try. I'm terrible at soldering but I can only get better by soldering more and this is a great way to practice

Thanks man! Next hurdle will be to try to get the DC online to play some AFO or Daytona. I always sucked at Quake so that will have to wait lol

Always use soldering flux on the contact while soldering. it's help to make a solid joint Because high heat make oxidation quick. And oxidation make solder hard to joint together. beware cheap flux don't work well as the quality one.

I understand your concern, but I was soldering on a board on top of a battery. There was not enough heat transfer to cause alarm. I would not have uploaded this if I thought it was unsafe. I do give clear instruction that if anyone doesn't feel comfortable with the soldering in this project to seek the help of a professional.
