Great video. I have both, I prefer Sonic's Genesis Collection because of the unlockables. Unlocking the interviews and arcade games made it feel special.
You took the words right outta my mouth. Sega Genesis Classics has a few more games than Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, but the latter has better games. But its the unlockable arcade and Master System games that put it over the top. The interviews and back stories for each game is also a nice touch. IMO Sega totally botched Genesis Classics.
Me too because it felt more Sega love with some great surprises compared to mostly just the games. I still say the PC version of Sega Genesis Classics which includes five more Genesis games is better than it's console counterpart. Which I recently gotten as well as every achievement within a day. Not only that, I prefer the game selection screen as well.
@@metallicnole4514 Well Sonic Origins comes out in like a week & it has Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles AND Sonic CD AND also includes the ability to play as Tails or Knuckles in Sonic 1 & Sonic CD (which is a new feature). So it's worth picking up!!
We need Sega Dreamcast Classics and it should have... 1. Power Stone 1&2 2. Zombie Revenge 3. Virtua Fighter 3tb 4. Mortal Kombat Gold 5. Ready 2 Rumble Boxing (1&2)
I've said this. The PS3 Sega collection is the definitive version to EVER purchase. I bought it day 1 and always warm the system up and play it from time to time.
@@solefreak2 the ps4 genesis collection does yes, not the ps3 one lol I loved that ps3 one, so classic, the new one too but that ps3 one just felt special when I played it back then, the ps4 one of course probably the go to version now as it’s playable on modern consoles
Not including arcade unlockables was a big mistake for any of us older gamers who played Congo Bongo and Zaxxon in the arcade. Too many great memories.
Yeah... Sonic Ultimate Genesis is way WAY better than Sega Genesis Classic. It feels way more personal than let’s say the Sega Genesis Classic. Also my favorite part of Sonic Ultimate Genesis is the Extras.
I got it for Space Harrier arcade. Which I guess is an extra. An extra that's more powerful than any Genesis game hehe. Back in the day you needed a 32X adapter to play it.
Great review! I bought the game too here in England. It’s partially worth the cost. I’m not too impressed with the selection but I’m hoping for a dlc to offer us a back catalog. I hit the subscribe button, by the way.
The Steam Version of this included more games. I wish we had a definitive collection because every time they release a collection it removes some games that were in previous ones. They should add with every re-release, NOT take away.
@@NotArmani30 The PS3/360 collection included games like Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles and even some Master System games as unlockables. It's the only collection where you can play all four Phantasy Star games.
I own them all...PS2, PS3, PS4, and the official Genesis mini. The best overall game selection is on the PS3 Ultimate Genesis collection!! Look how many games they took off the PS4 collection compared to PS3! No Ristar?! No Sonic 3?! Any compilation that doesn't include Sonic 3 goes down a peg in my opinion. The mini is the best only if you mod it to add another 50-100 games.
If they combine what the Sega Genesis Collection has with things like the room, with unlockables like those from Sonic UGC with arcade titles, Master System games and interviews. And of course, all the Sega games with a few 3rd party titles, and I would gladly buy it.
When I was a kid. My family got a computer that had the genesis collection emulated on it already. It was a great time for me, but as a kid, I just played them and never really completed any. There could be a lot of reasons for that, but point is I wanna get it again. However, I noticed some of the collection don't have all the games that I had on it. So, if any of you guys can help, can y'all: 1. Tell me if I can emulate it on my laptop. 2. If I can't, tell me which of the console collections are more bang for my buck. Hopefully, I can I find it before y'all answer, cause I'm itching for some Sparkster, or Robocop, and cool spot!
Maybe a little late but you emulate pretty much all the games included in both collections though you might need to see which Genesis emulator would work best, and I personally prefer the Ultimate Collection though Classics is still a fun enough time.
An "Arcade Classics Collection" would be a nice companion piece to go with the "SEGA Genesis Classics" collection. It could feature all the unlockable arcade titles from the PS2/PSP/PS3 versions of the SEGA Genesis collection, plus throw in "Carnival" "Star Trek" "Monster Bash" & a host of other SEGA arcade games that haven't seen the light of day on a modern console.
I'm fine with my PS3 Sega Genesis Collection thanks. I think the unlockables, like the game developer documentaries of how they made their games are a little neat touch. Plus, I don't own a PS4 unfortenatly, but I am happy with my PS3 anyways. Plus, I am glad that Sega actualy did this for newer generations of gamers. I remember playing Sega Genesis at my friends place, when I was younger and having to play these retro games nowdays feels both nostalgic and really great. I haven't played retro or 16-bit games for a long time, the only games I remember playing from that era was Ecco The Dolphin, The Flinstrones and Tiny Toon Adentures on the Genesis. Such good childhood memories, plus Sega Genesis was a console that pretty much introduced me to gaming in the first place. :D
The reasonwhy we haven't got Sonic 3 & Knuckles ported in most of 2010's decade is because the legal rights of Michael Jackson and his sound team. Michael Jackson and the rest of his team are involved in some of the tracks in Sonic 3.
Fun fact: The version of Sega Genesis Classics on Steam includes the omitted Sonic 3 and Knuckles as well as all 3 Ecco titles on the Genesis (Ecco the Dolphin, Tides of Time, and Ecco Jr.) However, bonus content is still lacking, so if that's what you are interested in, I'd say don't bother wasting money on it
I'll play Sega Genesis Classics over Ultimate Collection anyday. It has all of the games that I want which include The Revenge of Shinobi, Wonder Boy in Monster World, Gunstar Heroes, and Bare Knuckle III.
As an owner of both games, I really enjoyed UGC's unlockable arcade/SMS titles. It made me feel like I was earning those games as I went along. Classics has some great pixel scaling options that give the games a huge graphical facelift. The borders, game room customizations and GUI are all well-designed, and Classics gets a win in that column. 1000 Gamerscore came quite easy in UGC, but the challenges feature in Classics really tests your mettle and disables rewind and fast-forwarding (so no cheating). It also has what I think is overall the better game library - with a few notable exceptions, of course. Sega Genesis Classics has the better Achievements/Trophies list in my opinion. If you've read this far, you'll probably realize that I quite like both! Nice video.
Lack of NBA Jam, Yu Yu Hakusho, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Monster World IV, Mickey Mania, Street Fighter II, Castlevania Blood Lines, Contra Hard Corps, MegaMan The Wily Wars, OutRun, Aladdin, Ghouls N' Ghosts, Ecco, Earthworm Jim and Alisa Dragoon really ruins this collection. Guess I'll wait until Sega gets it right next time.
Great Video, I honestly prefer this over the PS2 & PS3 compilations not including S3&K isn't a big deal to me as I own the Sonic MCP on my PS2. All games look and play great on it I haven't ran into any issues & for 30 dollars this was a great buy. All that matters to me is I can play my most favorite Genesis Classics on my PS4 finally. So imo this compilation makes the PS2/PSP & PS3 one obsolete
Thanks for the kind words! And glad you enjoyed it too. I do agree it was still well worth it for the price. Here's hoping they add more games to it down the line!
Sega Genesis Classics is better on PC since you got a few more games and you can play with rom hacks. But I do like the extra stuff in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection as well. I really enjoy playing both these compilations.
On Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on Sonic The Hedgehog 2&3 it won't let us play as Knuckles on Sonic The Hedgehog 2&3 that is why I am buying me the Sonic Mega Collection Plus original xbox game and the best part about that I could play original xbox games on my xbox 360 and plus Sonic Mega Collection let you play as Knuckles on Sonic The Hedgehog 2&3 but I am still buying the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection because it haves mostly all the classic Sega video games.
I'm with you on having a good Sega Saturn collection. But 32X? C'mon, that's like asking why there's no Phillips CDi or Virtual Boy collection. Sega CD had a few good titles, but probably not enough to justify having a collection all to itself.
Haha, that's an absolutely fair point, and I know most people hated the 32X (with a few exceptions like Knuckles Chaotix). It's one of those things I'd hope to see included in a bigger collection with stuff from other platforms as well. But I know I'm completely in the minority opinion on that one.
I have enjoyed the video you produced. For Shinning Force I and II alone it is worth the price. I prefer the original for my Sega system but the price of each cartridge is going for double the price online. Enjoyed your positive attitude and yet your nipping on the product tells me that you are not a push order to rate on games always positive I am hoping. It is good that you discovered some of the original Final Phantasy games so that your historical knowledge of games increases.
They need to add more games, doesn't seem worth it for me, cuz I own the older one, and also it's too much, $20 max would be good which it will be pretty soon.
I own both compilations and now not long ago, I gotten every achievements in both of them as well. I do prefer Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for the unlockables as well as some facts they tell. I also liked we get to see each game's cartridge, manual and cover artwork. Although, Sega Genesis Classics does have a few things over it. I just felt they cared more for that compilation.
I sorta wish they would add like the sega addons like sonic cd for example especially since sonic cd as far as i know is only on PC and android and not everyone wants to play on a phone or a tablet
For something that is called ultimate it sure has the least amount of games on it lol. Still these editions are pretty much the cheapest options current market are available to even have a physical copy off. All the Retro Games have risen in value but the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive more so cause they were much more limited. I would not be surprised even these will rise to higher prices to get later down the road.
Wait, hold on a minute! I have the Nintendo Switch version of Sega Genesis Classics, and it doesn't have any of the Wonder Boy titles on it. The list of games ends at Virtua Fighter 2. And while we are on the subject of games that didn't make the cut, where the hell is Super Hang-On? I have not seen that appear in anywhere in a Genesis compilation since the 6-Pak cart released in 1996.
I miss the extra in old version. But don’t know which have more. But miss some games of old one but some change games are good. Bad changes: I miss eco and columns 2 and award 2good changes: phansey star series, just jam game and award kind of fun. But room feel look creepy and scare. Like at least have jokes about mom come in room to see and being alone. Had to be alone too very much. And dlc had no happen yet.
Bottom line, I’m getting the ps4 collection or streets of rage 3 cartridge for my genesis. EDIT: I lost my 360 ultimate collection so now I cant play streets of rage 3, I already have 1 ,2 and 4.
They could have included a few of the best first party Saturn games or at least the few good Sega cd or 32x games(there weren't but a couple for each)so it wouldn't have been a whole lot to add.And just call it Sega greatest.
0:13 like old one better, have better, and i think more too. new one just got to lay off. the maker did not look at sage history as well as other maker did or do. and the priz you get in old game are much beter after getting done with mission. new one just have pitcher but better misson ojnly sad part. ya over all love new new one but old one way better.
It's confusing, but they're actually two different games, that BOTH start with the title "Monster Boy III." I had to read a whole article on the differences.
I was tempted to by this but seeing it doesn't have echo or Sonic 3 and Sonic and knuckles made me go wow yet again they wonder why people illegally use emulators.
Just subscribed thank u i was wondering about this sega genesis ultimate collection but its it the same titles qs the sega mega drive ultimate collection lol
@@JDOmnislash oh ok :) thank you for the reply back i got the psp mega drive instead of the genesis. The genesis i have a empty case for the psp maybe one day will find the umd but everything is getting harder to find and prices are stupidly going up here in Canada for everything lol
More than half a year later, any patch updates to fix the latency? I'm looking at pulling the trigger on PSN sale, but concerned if the games don't run smooth as they should...
There was a 1.04 update a few months back, that helped with some of the game stuttering issues. As far as I know, all of the remaining issues (like the audio bug, etc.) are still intact. :(
Between the two, I'd say that you could probably tweak the settings for nicer emulation with a Raspberry Pi 3, but the collection does have the rewind and fast-forward feature, which makes it a little more unique than just a typical save state option.
I prefere sega genesis collection, emulation id better and haver on online mode, and you can go back in timeand move forward which is a revolutionary thing.
@@JDOmnislash Ok thanks! So whatever games I choose as favorites I can manually arrange myself where they go or I can only put them at the top of the list then right?
My only complaint about the game is that if the sonic games were the remastered versions for ios/Android, it would be a much better experience then the original versions, but I will take what I can because the game is already released, so there is nothing that I can literally do now. (Unless this gets attention and becomes fixed in future) That's final, Period. #Fixthegamepls
There are some settings in the PS4 collection to help with the visual touches. The PS3 collection did a good job with the presentation, right off the bat, but the added features in the PS4 setup helped a lot! (That's not including the online mode though, of course.)
Sonic games, and the right to use hacked roms through Steams service, is why the Steam edition is the one to get. Fan translated Bare Knuckle 3, 1.0.0. Revenge of Shinobi, Sonic 3 Complete, and NTSC 60fps Alien Soldier.
I really hope we see that come back at some point. Strangely enough, they've been included with those AtGames plug and play systems, yet they still don't appear in these collections. Grr!
Would love to be a fly on the wall at these boardroom meetings when these discussions are had. "Gentlemen and Danielle, we need a new way to cash in on those nostalgia Sega bucks from millennials." "-You mean give them 40% of what they want, excluding Aladdin, Alien 3, Road Rash 2, Batman Returns, Earth Worm Jim, Urban Assault and the knuckles add-ons for the Sonic 1-3 games?" "Yeah, fuck it. Jerry's right. Worked in the past. ....eh, humm. Gents, I'm going to need to work out some, uh...details with Danielle, the rest of you get the fuck out of here. That's better. Now how bout some...quality time? Think my lobby could use a good buffing." "-I'm such a lucky lady." "Oh yeah. Come on. Ah...fuck yeah. Yeah, work it just like that. Fucking hell. I love how you do that." "-Thank you. By the way, since I have you, I want to be paid $0.70 on the dollar to my male colleagues. It's only fair when you take into account the fact I take more sick days, longer sick days, dont work the same number of hours, am less likely to travel and do the more dangerous tasks around here. To say nothing of the fact I can become pregnant and contribute ZERO to this company's bottom line for many consecutive months." "I...CAaaaAame to the same conclusion there, honey ass." Bet it goes down exactly like that.
