I've got basically a full SEGA library on PlayStation 2, including Japanese exclusive imports. SEGA AGES Japanese collection is mostly good or excellent. The Outrun 2 version (NTSC-J) has force feedback support on steering wheel, the force feedback isn't on PAL or NTSC versions. Force feedback is on 18 Wheeler and a few other SEGA racers..
Virtua Fighter 4 has an absolutely sensational one-player mode. One of the best home fighting ports ever made. As a Sega head I didn’t have a PS2 until much later but it’s my most played console these days.
Great video Dan. It was a bitter pill to swallow when Sega went multiplatform and the industry hasn't been the same since, but many of the games they released back then were still fantastic. I'll praise VF4 all day, incredible game on the PS2 which me and my friend rinsed.
Nice one Dan. Some great titles there. I keep meaning to do a video covering the Sega Ages collection we got but my ps2 is unconnectable currently. Id love to cover the entire Japanese AGES set at some point (like my two Saturn vids) as i dont think they get enough coverage.
Enjoyed that one Dan, some great games on there and glad you feel my sentiments about the OG Yakuza games. Also OR2 on 480p is such a beauty to behold i recommend it for anyone to try it.
Gotta say, while I kind of preferred their output on Xbox, there's a lot to like from SEGA on the PS2. I do also remember playing Shadow the Hedgehog though...😅
Yeah I preferred Sega's Xbox output too, I think if I had access to the Japanese library though, PS2 may have nicked it. I'm a bit of a Shadow apologist, though it's awful on PS2 compared to Xbox, kind of like Sonic Heroes - Dan
Great idea for a video. Enjoyed this one. After reading bit-ishbulldog2089's comment below, would you ever consider doing a PS2 Sega Ages2500 episode/series of videos? Lots of classics in that subset of games.
I really tried to like the first Like a Dragon on the PS2, but couldn't get past the horrible (in my opinion) voice acting. Now that there's an Undub ISO with the Japanese voice actors available, I'm planning to play that instead. :)
SONY killed the Dreamcast, and then got tons of SEGA games, and it was all on lies about how powerful the PS2 was in comparison to Dreamcast. It's why every game on both platforms is noticeably better on Dreamcast. I was at the ECTS just before Dreamcast launched in the west (it was out in Japan) and SONY's showcase had the 'ballroom scene' from Final Fantasy VIII, running at 720p, claiming that it was in game PS2 graphics. They also had a high level GT build running on a PC that they said was demonstrating what it would look like on PS2, and it as WAY better than GT4 ended up looking, never mind GT3, and they were telling everyone how the emotion engine made it so you didn't have to design the world, you just told the emotion engine what a tree was and it would populate the world with 3D models of trees that it rendered on the fly, and each one would be unique, with different branches and bark and everything. And devs after the presentation were all talking about how there was no need to support the Dreamcast because it was 'old tech' in comparison. When we know in hindsight it wasn't. Hell, even by the time GT4 came out on PS2, the trees were still two flat sprites in an X, and they definitely weren't running 60fps games in 720p that looked like Square's CGI animations even by the end of PS3, arguably not even PS4.
