Located in the valleys of Western Sicily, a jaw-dropping Greek Temple and Theater rise up out of the rolling hills to dominate the entire area, truly making a statement! In today's episode, we are in the ancient city of Segesta as we make our way from Palermo to Trapani to explore a new part of Sicily. We marvel at the imposing magnitude of a Temple having been thought to have been built in the 420s BC by a Greek cult, before climbing to a Theater built on the highest peak of Mount Barbaro, offering a spectacular view of the valley and Gulf of Castellammare, Trapani.
Segesta was one of the major cities of the Elymians, one of the three indigenous peoples of Sicily. The other major cities of the Elymians were Eryx and Entella. It is located in the northwestern part of Sicily in Italy, near the modern commune of Calatafimi-Segesta in the province of Trapani.

The "Magna Grecia" translated as Great Greece, were pre-Romanesque Greek colonies, they profoundly influenced southern Italy, influencing its culture and leaving many temples, theaters, founding dozens of cities and still today in some cities of southern Italy, the language Greek is still spoken.

"Magna Graecia" was the name given by the Romans to coastal areas of Southern Italy. In the present day it is the region of "Calabria" Sicily although also a region of Greek colonization is not usually included in this area.

Hi Misha & Matteo, I love your channel because you are active and enjoy life (and so do I) I just got back from a week on Malta (check out St Peter's Pool). But back to Sicily: there are a couple of hikes along the coast on the East side around Catania and Syrakus, and another hiking areaTrapani to beautiful coastal pebble beaches with crystal water. I think those nature walks/hikes to hidden coves are the best before a plate of Pasta. Nina Hill has a Sicily video with those hikes. I was hoping you would feature those. you're the best. Peter
