Finish I use: amzn.to/2h026Pe
Buffing Wheels: amzn.to/2xWSCLz
Tools I use:
Chop Saw- amzn.to/2iZkNqG
Saw Blade- amzn.to/2zvs0ps
Lathe Tools- amzn.to/2xXoD6g
Thin Parting Tool- amzn.to/2jc4Xcd
Drum Sander- amzn.to/2zaqSV9
Drum Sander Sand Paper- amzn.to/2zuUsqT
Glue- amzn.to/2ytfS8f
This Segmented Double Torus is made in Bubinga. Its made of 2016 pieces. I turned two donut shaped rings on the lathe and then cut them in half with the table saw. The large torus has 112 segmented, with 12 pieces in each rings that are all tapered to 3.2º for a total of 1344 pieces. the smaller torus is a little less than half the size but I didn't want the size of the pieces to change so there are half as many segmented rings (56) that are all tapered to 6.4º. This makes for a total of 672 pieces in the smaller torus. In total there are 2016 pieces which represents the year that it was made. The whole process took about 100+ hours to build. It is finished in Formbys Tung oil and then buffed. It stands about 19 inches tall with out the base and about 22.5 inches tall by 4.5 wide inches with the base.
This piece is available on my site woodbytoth.bigcartel.com if you are interested in purchasing it. For more info you can email me at woodbytoth@gmail.com

Nice! I like that you did not do a bunch of pattern in the segments, and left it all about the over all beautiful form

frank howarth Hello Mr. Howarth! Maybe you could do a take on this but as more of a mobius strip (it's an interesting geometric form)... I just suggested this to Kyle as well, but you could beat him to it!

Thanks Frank! Yeah this form is just so great that adding pieces would take some of that away

Amazing! Not only the final product, but the prep and jigs for cutting, glueing, clamping and turning. WOW!! If I didn't see it, I wouldn't believe it. You have my vote for winning the internet today!

And I thought I could turn. I must have watched 1,000 RU-vid videos in turning but this has to be the ultimate. Who says turning is all about making bowls? Many thanks for such a masterpiece. Best wishes from Ireland.

I love the torus and the number of rings and segments, it would have sent me crazy well before I could have done that. I liked the way you came up with gluing it all together and the shaping on the lathe, just incredible.

Seriously stunning work. Making that cut at 4:50 after all that work must have been a tense moment!

wow. one of the coolest pieces of wood working I've seen on youtube. All of your stuff is, really. such a creative mastermind. You use a lot of sacred geometry in some of your pieces, and from the looks of a painting i saw at the end of your donut video, the egyptian alien with the mushrooms for pupils, i take it you may use some sacred plants for inspiration. Super inspired. I love the sacred plants, and sacred geometry and I am just buying my first tools now to get into woodworking myself. I am a dancer who has lived in New York City for the past five years and i just moved to LA last week, Sherman Oaks. I started watching Frank howarth last year and just felt a calling. Ive probably watched 3 or 4 hundred wood working videos, including most of yours and feel somewhat prepared/adequately educated enough to get started. Other than dance, I can see myself doing this very seriously. I cant wait to see the kind of art and function i can make with my own hands. I think I'm gonna buy a router, a circular saw, some chisels, hand saw, random orbital sander, some glue, finish, goggles, drill, jigsaw, and some clamps to get started. Any advice? Id appreciate it alot. Thanks Kyle

Absolutely amazing. That's all I have to say. I was surprised by how simple the final glue up was. I was expecting it would take more cuts to make the loop but now I see how it's simply offsetting half of each torus.
