Kyle i just wanted to thank you for sharing your process for assembling and turning these huge vases, your work is nothing short of amazing you definitely showed up and participated in shop class didn't you instead of napping in the back with the stoners, all the best to you and your family,as long as you share the work you do,i will be here to watch thanks again brother
Wow, one of the big lathe manufacturers needs to come out with a huge new lathe called the Toth Special Edition (and pay you royalties of course). The vase is amazing.
i just love segmented turning; the juxtaposition of rigid brick like angularity and flowing curves after it's turned. The veneer between segments and rings was a masterful touch and this vase is amazing!
I am subscribed to a bunch of woodturner channels even though I don't do it myself, but I did take one class - harder than it looks! I think I could do it eventually though- but to get to your level..... I may not ever.
I am currently deep cleaning my shop out in PDX. I like to find a creator threads on youtube while i clean and when i saw what you were doing i stopped and had to watch. My lathe has not rotated in months from lack of time in the day but thank you for your video. It made me realize that the items that i want to make can be done in a few hours day to day. Looks great
Incredible. Totally hats off to your patience and skill dude! Whilst I was watching this I started wondering if it was possible to have a vase with a thick black layer somewhere in the main body. Then started thinking about masking this when you apply the shine so you end up with a matte finish. Dunno if it's food for thought or not.
Its people like like that make it seem real easy and make me wanna go turn, only to realize that just because you made it look easy doesnt mean it is. Lol. Great project and great vase. When I saw you filling gaps with those black sheems, I didnt get it ar first but the end result make every single piece stand out and gives it an amazing result. I reslly apreciate youre taking time to share it with us. Wish you luck, health, positivity and good times. Dudes like you, who get up and do stuff, keep this planet turning.
You're right TCT! People like Kyle make the show go on. He's good and he's generous too. I'm just glad that there are young people out there wanting to do things, and DOING them. You go ahead too, do your stuff.
Thank you. I should. And I agree that its great to see young people do more then just stare at smartphone and tweeting/facebooking//...myFacing, etc. all day long. Thanks to older generation folkes who keeps us motivated. And it takes a lot of effort, energy, time and more to make something, but when you add video recording and working with one hand, editing and posting... Thats a lot of work. We greately appreciate it.
Love your videos. Definitely something I want to work towards is your status of segmenting. Couple questions though; 1- why a faceplate versus chuck? Better hold? 2- is it always a hard wood that's screwed into the faceplate, or will any wood do?
The black joining strips looked like they were plastic but they seemed to shape with the tools the same as the wood without chipping. What are the made of? Cant be plastic. Amazing work. Looks stunning.

This is AMAZING JOB!!!!!!!!!!! I just don't understand why would someone dislike this video,if you don't like something about it just ignore and move on...haters will always hate I guess...
I knew it!! I'm not the only one dancing in my shop in my videos!! Only my dancing looks like I'm having a seizure! 😜 Great vase man!! If we ever hit Cali I may have to stop In and see your gallery!!! -Brian
first of all fantastic work my friend. a few questions... What is the black material you place between the segments? What RPMs are you running at? how do you insure uniform wall thickness, or do you worry about it, when you do the inside then outside?Does wobble become a problem when working so far away from the headstock? How many man hours would you estimate you have in this piece? Love your stuff:)
Red Gemini Arts Thanks dude. Sometimes its black veneer and other times it ebony. Depends on the project. I always put the materials used in the description too
