im 5'10 and I have no problem navigating this (Ninebot Mini Lite). Took me all of 5 mins to get the hang of using my calfs and leaning a certain way to turn. purchased this to be my "last mile" transportation vehicle. It's durable and affordable. This fits the bill. im very optimistic I've found what I've been looking for.
I recently acquired a used Ninebot Mini - probably a variant intended for the Chinese market. Very similar looking to this MiniLite which I'm guessing is under their Segway branding for the Western market. The tyre walls do say max 30PSI but certain websites as well as the app's Live Support Chat informed me that the recommended pressure is 45-50 PSI. At 30PSI, the tyres have a flat rectangular car-like profile, whereas at 45+PSI, it becomes rounded like a motorbike/bicycle tyre.
That's awesome John. Keep me posted on what you think. It's been almost a year since purchasing it and my kids were actually out riding it today. I of course still use it around town when I can "borrow" it from them.
I was considering the Segway Ninebot S Smart Self-Balancing Electric Scooter for steadycam opertion. But, I'm leaning towards the Halo Rover X Electric Hoverboard Bluetooth 8.5". It's the terrain capabilities that appeal to me. if you agree this is the better choice, please don't hesitate to confirm or disagree.
I’m not sure about the Halo Rover. The balancing features of the motors in the Segways are definitely helpful. I did do some filming in a skate park one time and decided to test how far I could push those motors. It didn’t go well. 💥 I ended up getting thrown off. My gimbal and camera survived, but lens took a beating. I was able to gaff tape the lens back together though. Still works. It was totally my fault though. Just be careful on those things. I do probably have several hundred miles on the Segway where I was using my camera, without incident, so there is that 🤷♂️
I know the weight says somewhere around 175 is the ideal weight. However, on amazon reviews someone explained that they had purchased before realizing the maximum weight 176, but he was well over that weight. What are your thoughts and advice ?
I've had friends that are also over the 175 lbs (180s-200) ride it. It functions and it's not as if it is slow. I believe this is Ninebot's/Segway's threshold to ensure that the motors can respond safely to keep the rider upright. The more force that's applied to the Segway (miniLite), the harder it can be for the motors to compensate to respond if the rider becomes unbalanced. Again, my friends didn't report that they felt unsafe or as if the Segway wasn't holding them. The motors are definitely powerful, but the point of difference between the Segway and a hoverboard is how the motors work to provide balance throughout... The "pro" level models I realize are a bit of a step up in price, so I know it may be an easier financial decision for the miniLite. What's the weight of the rider you're researching this for?
That's awesome on the e300. I've definitely seen those around my neighborhood. I'd like to have that extra speed that the e300 has, but the Segway is still a lot of fun.

at around the 1:12 minute mark he mentions the height limitationis 5,11". Now my friend just bought a miniLITE and have used it plenty of times, I stand at 6'6 so I dont know what kind of height limitation you are tlking about because i can ride one just like anybody else.
good video just bought a minilite i should have done more research before buying .i hate the limited mode how much you have to ride to unlock the limited mode?there is definately a learning curve.before i had
Well the pro versions have a little more speed, and I agree, I wish they could bump it up a bit more. It's just that the motor that keeps you upright is limited in its power. Essentially sacrificing some power/speed for distance (battery life).
Are you using the Ninebot app for it to help with calibration? It should just work right out of the box without issue. To clarify are you saying it's just rolling upright along the terrain without you on it?
Hello! What would you reccomend for segway care. I have some scratches on my white model and i cant get it off with clorox wipes which usually gets rid of MOST scratches
Hello I can't decide if I should buy an mini lite or mini pro I am around 175 and don't know which to buy what would you recommend and will I be able to control it with my knees or am I too tall
The recommendations I suggest in the video are taken from the manufacturer. I've certainly had friends at that weight and 6 feet+ ride a mini. There's always a guideline to follow and really what Ninebot wants to ensure is that you get the full benefit of the motors (~700W total) to keep you vertical since each motor powers in a way to make sure you are upright. I've also definitely watch adults around my neighborhood that were going door-to-door using the minilite and some of them were certainly over those recommended limits. Looking more for commuting or just tooling around?
I haven't changed the tires...there's still tread on them and I have A LOT of miles on this thing. There are various vendors online that sell scooter and segway tires, but again you're likely going to get thousands of miles on the originals.
Great question... If I've drained it to almost 10% (or lower), I typically leave it charging for about 3 hours, which is when the indicator light goes green. However when I charge it after going short distances it'll take anywhere from an hour or two at most... Like if the battery is at about 40-50%. Hope this helps.
How do you pair this damn thing to phone, keep saying I gotta watch a damn safety video but the Bluetooth stop searching b4 the video ends so never connects??? Please help😞
This must be something new. Aren’t you able to watch the video without pairing? I’ll have to try and start from scratch to see what issues may be popping up since this video is a couple years old.
@@KevinRossRN when I first open app it lets me sign in then it say search for vehicle and when I search is when it finds it and starts to try and connect to Bluetooth and then the safety video pops up at same time so while watching video the parring time runs out and then like 5 secs afterwards the video stop. How do I get to safety video in the app to watch without searching for vehicle?
None of the three models of Segway minis are going to go faster than 11 miles an hour. Keep a driveway reflecting stick with you not only to help keep cars away from your, but when you're walking your mini, or if you're low on battery power, you literally help push it along with the stick, no need to carry it, except up and down stairs. I have to add, ninebot makes painfully paper-thin tires, broken glass cuts them easily so everyone needs a put green stuff in their tires from the beginning of owning them... Or purchase hybrid tires which are larger and thicker!!!👍
I have a smart phone but no internet in public. I only have internet at home. Do I need wifi to use the app at all times? Does it have anti theft? Great video! I'm an older adult like you and I just picked one of these up. Can't wait to check it out!!! Thanks for the info.
Thanks so much for the questions. So the app/minilite connects via bluetooth. So you should be good there. Once you turn on the minilite just open up the app (ninebot) and it'll scan for any devices nearby. Just connect and you'll be able to see the data there and also customize a few features. I should have addressed this question in the video, but the minilite unfortunately doesn't have a lock feature like the minipro does. There is a password you can use with the app every time you connect the device to your phone, but again, it's not an "anti-theft" feature. The minipro can be locked via the app and will essentially render the Segway unridable. It beeps, it won't balance, and basically just won't move in any direction as it is designed. The serial number is available via the app and I just kept a screen shot of it just in case I needed to verify ownership. I'd be curious to hear how your experience is with it. I'm seeing more and more of them out and about as of late.
Do you have to link it with a phone (after you get past beginner mode)? For example, if my kids want to use it (they don't have a phone), do they have to take my phone with them while riding?
No, not at all. It doesn't need the phone (app) to actually operate. You can just "unlock" the beginner mode from the app (your phone), and it'll work without that limitation every time you turn the Segway on.

Unfortunately, no. However, fortunately (in my opinion) the bar is very responsive. You don't need to "push" it very hard. It doesn't take much to get it to turn. Are you concerned you may be too tall for the mini?
@@KevinRossRN I am 1.81m tall and the idea of this segway is to control it within your knee area, if its to low it may be harder to control, the Pro version offers that feature so it may be better option for adults.
I’m 6’7” and think I might try to widen the bar with a add on pad or something but other than having to lean on it a little more deliberately in stock form I have no issue
There have been users of the minilite on here that are taller and heavier... It's just the manufacturer recommended limit. I've had friends over that weight limit ride without issue.
A couple of examples: When I've cruised around town at an "average" speed, here and there to meetings, it would last a couple of days, but based on the fact that I didn't go over the 10-11 mile threshold during those couple of days. Another example: My kids have been riding around on it in the neighborhood back and forth to friend's houses and it's still rocking the original charge from about a week ago. It really comes down to the distance, which you can see in the app. It'll tell you how many miles are remaining on the charge.
The one thing I do really like about the segway is that your hands are free. I've ridden electric scooters, and yes, they are faster, which I do like the speed. The minilite also has great stability and responsiveness though. What's your use case? Fun, commuting, both?
