your correct in that topic, they are overhauling the models and going up market to seperate from the other competitors. there's a white dial version mm300 too. but its the new marinemaster lineup and the older sbdx001 and 017 will become more desirable

Thank you for the Seiko insight! If I may ask your thoughts, what do you think will now happen with my SLA075 and SLA073 that both will have identical 42.6mm case designs but of course are both 200m. Will they become a limited number made or will their value be impacted? Would very much like to hear your thoughts if you don't mind. Should I sell them now or hang tight to them? I now question my two new investments. They also of course still have the same 8L35 movement. I just wonder what these two divers will become? Thanks a bunch for your knowledge.

@DiveWatcher the Sla073 and 075 are already seeing a down trend, seiko as a collectors watch is very hit and miss. the best way to view it is any new release watches can be superceded by a newer watch . for example the new mm300 has better specs that new collectors would go for and also marinemaster on the dial. I personally love the older sbdx001 and sbdx017 because they where the first. ( modern era ) if anything the current new releases will raise demand for them as they will be seen as the original. for example I love the willard but with the saturation of the seiko willard I decided to avoid the SLA willards and luckily found a original 6105 8110 in good condition. moral of the story is if you want a watch that will hold and appreciate in value , nothing beats the originals in good condition. they will only become more rare and desirable. but if you want a new watch your best bet is to wait for faithful reissues of legends. e.g. SJE093 and SLA033 and who could forget the SPB259 Ginza. the next watches I'm keenly waiting for is the 6139 pogue reissue which should be coming soon and if accurate to the original will be a mandatory buy. any new watch leaks will be on my channel so stay tuned 👍

@@SeikoLeaks thank you for your keen insight. I do appreciate you for that. So if I took that all in correctly that it sounded as if since the SLA055, SLA057, SLA075, and SLA073 all of which were the first releases of this new case design and as such will be considered originals per say and their quantity will be numbered which the 055 and 057 are already limited editions and the 075 is a US exclusive model special edition cave diving model and the 073 is also a cave diving model but overall these 4 are the first that Seiko released this modern reinterpretation 42.6mm cases and as such are you saying that these 4 should in theory retain their value being that they were all 4 the first time Seiko introduced this particular case design? Did I follow you correctly on that? I defer to you because of your vast and deep knowledge which I know Seiko but in this quite particular situation I just literally cannot answer this question even though my professional background is in fact market valuation and market analysis. I conclude two totally different overall market values of these 4 particular SLA models with the research I have done that takes into account this new identical case design but with it being 300m which I know that Seiko has temporarily pulled from nearly their entire lineup as a whole which was my research clued me into their 300m moving upscale and to be reintroduced at a higher price point to compete with specifically the Omega Seamaster 300m. Then add to that fact they will be utilizing the Marinemaster name combined with the 300m and that's where I hit my market analysis roadblock. I know the 300m Marinemaster for example this SLA079 will likely have a price point over $5k but what I just am not able to gain full insight to is what type of monetary and market desire will it bring and or do to these 4 divers 055, 057, 075, and 073? I hope I followed your insight correctly as to say these 4 since being the first releases of their kinds should retain market value and market demand? Did I follow you correctly there or do you mean that these 4 will in turn lose their marketability and desire thus owners to see a depreciation in value? Sorry that was long but again I defer to you. Also I have been a long time Sub to your channel and I will definitely stay tuned. Look forward to hearing your response and vast insight. I ask because it has me wondering whether to hang tight to them or sell them now and then get the 300m SLA079 model? Thanks a ton brother!! Your time is appreciated and knowledge valued.

@DiveWatcher the current SLA line of MM cases are currently below rrp at release on the second hand market (new/like new) if anything the SLA057 is performing the best so far in value retention. like most new models when they come out they tend to come down in market value and once sold out they settle in price and if desirable they come up un price to meet the markets demand. I would say if I was in your position I would go pre prospex models and go a SBDX017 or SBDX001. they are currently undervalued in the market right now and with the sla077 and sla079 coming to market this year I see them performing well beyond any other automatic marinemasters. I'm personally looking for a sbdx001, 017, sla057. and I'll even throw in a sbbn015 into the mix as they haven't released a new lineup of the famous tuna quartz. the prospex lineup with the prospex "X" logo has been met by collectors with a lot of resistance, most people dislike the logo and are driving up the prices of the pre 2018 watches. same is happening with The Alpinists sarb017, sumo and monsters etc. list goes on. pre 2018 iconic seikos is where it's at. the exception to this rule is if seiko make faithful reissues without the prospex logo e.g. srpk17 and sje093 . they'll eventually do the same for a marinemaster.

Thank you Patrick! I have actually grown to really like the SLA073 Ice Blue model now since I swapped out the bracelet for the black seiko rubber strap because the bracelet that I swapped and put on the SLA075, washed the blue color ice dial that made it look silver. Its amazing what the proper color contrast does in fact!

077 and 079 is now out, priced lower than 073 and 075 - so that's good. I'm interested in the black dial 079, it look so so nice 👍👍

Yeah I like it also. It looks really good. If I ever sell my 075 then I may go after the 079. It’s priced nicely too. Much lower than I expected it to be.

Go for it! I think it would be cool. If I was in the position, I may would too. I think its great. You will never receive any type of envy or jealousy from my way. Unsure if your message was an attempt to make me feel something that is impossible. I think it would be great if you did and you would only receive praise from me and never hate. Dont just say it, be it. Talk it, walk it. Make your words verbs! You would be one of the select few that are capable of. Enjoy them both or enjoy your words.

*Rule Number 1 with Seiko & Grand Seiko, for any value retention the watch has to be limited under 1000 units, (preferably less than 500, the closer to 0 the better, so if it's limited to 300 units vs a limited version of 500 units, the run of 300 will hold value better, anything else you're guaranteed to lose) + a hot design + get it at an out the door price close to -50% RRP including the dealer eating your sales tax. = you will break even at least. (Remember Seiko, we're meant to lose on 99% of the releases as an end user/consumer, we're the crazies that buy the same 62MAS cases for 10 years straight hoping the crown will be signed, 15 years later you bought the one with an S and saw it as an upgrade)* -From a Psycho Seikopath. PS I bought the new SJE099, more of a *sidegrade* (slang for not even an upgrade or downgrade), why? because it's new, it said Marinemaster and I like how it looked. I got it at $1800 Out the door with some hard negotiations, I tried to get it at $1400 because it's not limited but I failed, if they had more than 5 on the floor, I would ask for it at invoice. lol.

That’s damn good stuff brother! Great insight and you’re are so right. You want so badly for any of your high end watches to at least retain their purchased value and in my younger days I just didn’t care and knew I was going to lose every time. These two I actually put some careful thought into because and due to the truly great price my AD gave me. My 075 I was out the door at $1800. My 073 out the door $1850 and at those two prices I just had to. I couldn’t pass those up. 35 to 40 percent off in all my 24 years of buying high end watches and even back when I was buying a brand new Breitling every other week from my local AD the most I got off was max 32 percent. So these two SLA Seiko 8L35 divers one a US exclusive edition and both the cave diving editions, it was in my thoughts that overall these two would end up having a smaller quantity made and thus possibly retaining at least the prices I paid up until Seiko comes in and hits me with such a tough blow being that of the 079 300m and officially Marinemaster which is awesome but not so much for my two new investments I don’t think. I guess at this juncture only time will foretell. What I hope now is that Seiko stops production of my two 075 and 073 and thus making them a numbered scarcity in a year or two from now. I still however want the 079 300m Marinemaster but time shall be the test that times there too because I do like my two and being that I ended up I do believe doing so well with what I paid respectively. I appreciate your very good insight! Always nice to read some true wisdom like that and to dig deep, think, and let it sink!

@@TheDiveWatcher when there’s a new Seiko release always ask is it limited? Less than 500 units? If not, you can get a discount from 30% to almost 50% off. Now if you like it, buy it but try to get as much off as you can. Don’t pay retail for a non-limited Seiko. SLA066 I got that number 201 for $2100 OTD I'm sitting on it for maybe 5 years until I post it for sale. Lol

@@TheDiveWatcher the US limited or the region limited releases are best to sell only in the market that they’re limited to because the foreigners are already turned off in buying the watch and they’re gonna try and lowball you from Australia to Europe to Asia and try to get you to eat the shipping also. So your best bet are limited global release without regional restriction discrimination. The biggest thing about it even the region limited items they’re not usually limited to 300 units or something crazy like that (sla066 is an exception I doubt they'll do it again and an even # reference [Seiko and GS usually have odd numbered reference numbers] So SLA066 is a true unicorn I had Buyers from Japan trying to get it when I had it up on Chrono, real ironic).
@TheDiveWatcher

@ShortLifeHax did you end up selling that one? I am going to look that model up. Ive seen the model reference number but unable to see it in my mind from the reference number. What I set out to get was either the SLA021 or the SLA023 but my Seiko AD was sold out and of course they have since been retired. What I really really wanted was the SNR029 and the SNR025. My two Seiko Grails that I at least hope to get one of the two. The 029 retails at $6k and the 025 is $5k. Spring Drive. Love those two and in my opinion they are all but Grand Seiko level. I owned the Spring Drive 600m GMT Diver twice and man I regret selling the last one I had! I had bought it right before Seiko lost their mind and went crazy with the price inflation path that they have been steadily increasing the last few years! Yeah had I known that Seiko was going to take this 42.6 case design and come behind these two identical 200m divers and release it in a 300m with Marinemaster on the dial then that would have definitely impacted my decision to invest in my two SLA divers. That is what Seiko should have released in the beginning. Makes me want to get mad at Seiko but at the same time I want the 079 lol!

I think the new “300m” models will be the same, meaning these 200’s are likely capable of more. It’s a moot point, since no one will actually use the extra 100m. If anything, it should make the 200m models more desirable as they represent a great value in comparison.

Did it say when Seiko was going to release the new 300m Marinemaster yet? Man I am sure tempted to because I already want it! What do you think the price point will end up being? We know it will have this same exact case design and likely 8L movement. I messaged my Seiko AD last night and waiting to hear back from him to see if he had any additional info. I know there is going to be a white dial released also with the black dial. Man it upsets me but I think it's awesome too at the same time. Seiko should have released these 4 with the Marinemaster on the dial and as 300m from the start. I know my SLA075 will end up having a likely very low number quantity made being US exclusive special edition as I would think these two will stop production when the 300m is released. I told my AD that when he gets the SLA079 in to hold it back for me. He takes trades so I may sell one and trade the other when Seiko releases it and my AD receives his stock whether he receives one or several. I know I want the black dial. I'm curious to see what Seiko will have it priced at. I also wonder if there will be any noticeable case design differences as my two. So many questions that can't be answered other than by time.
