Sieko for sure have a huge world wide brand name. I think they should cover all bases from their high end Grand Seiko through to their mid-range models and down to their affordable models. I lived in Singapore in the 1960’s and remember my father buying a Seiko Five model which he loved, and of course, it was affordable. To this day, he still has a few Seiko models.....So come on Seiko, please keep affordable models for the young crowd, they will stick with you forever.
@@LastWatch For sure! I picked this watch out at the jeweler the other day and will be getting it for my 19th birthday next week, should serve me well all throughout school :)
@@LastWatch Couldn't agree more, I stumbled upon this timepiece over the course of completely random events while on holiday in Germany. Fast forward 1,5 weeks, it's on my wrist now as a young adult's first ever watch that I ever bought at my own expense, being indecesive about buying the right watch for almost 3 years and I couldn't be happier than I am writing this. It truly just randomly found me. It's a lot of watch for the price, can't wait for what the future brings in my freshly founded watch collecting career. I agree with the strapmonster term, I'm defenitely going to have some fun with it on a quality jubilee or president bracelet.
I have the same watch on a Strapcode Jubilee bracelet with solid endlinks and a milled clasp with 6 micro-adjusts. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite watches.
Me too, I love the combo, I waited months for them to come out with that bracelet, and then they lost the first one in the mail....they replaced it at own expense though and even upped the shipping to fedex express. Some good things just take their time.
The SRPE51, IMHO, is currently the best looking most affordable seiko 5 sport watch. It is pretty good looking and also high in demand. If there is anything I would have changed is the lack of stainless steel frame around the date window. As for the rest of it's other shortcomings I think it is still acceptable as it is after all a watch on a budget. Good video there 👍
I have the SRPE57 and I love it. I put it on a light brown leather strap and my wife gave me a compliment, she loves my divers SKXOO9, Citizen Ny0004 but this watch and a strap change got her attention. Nice vid, keep it up.
@@LastWatch I bought the very same Uncle Seiko President bracelet for my SRPE61 (my Seiko has the brushed bezel). It is now my favorite watch in my small collection.
I actually returned an SRPD that I bought when I first saw the SRPE51. It's a very stunning piece and the price is definitely right. I don't mind the unsigned crown, but the lack of a sapphire crystal was a big let down so I added one to mine. Now it's probably one of the slickest looking watches in my case. The only thing that would make it better is a polished chapter ring with etched minutes markers. As soon as someone comes out with one for the SRPE line I'll be sure to add one to mine. 👍
@@LastWatch yes, I did. I bought a screw type press from Amazon and actually put sapphire crystals in all 10 of my Seiko watches and my Orient Kano as well. 👍
This is the watch i worn at my brother's wedding with suit and shooting practices with my shotgun at the weekend. you can have a tudor bb with affordable price and its not homage cause its classic Seiko design. You can read time at 4:00 am, amazing lumination, missing thing is just a sapphire crystal dial and screw down crown.
i got this watch for a steal and a half to replace my old daily driver; i have it on a LIW islander jubilee and it really brings the watch up a notch. also threw it on a grey colareb vintage leather strap and its absolutely stunning
I was sold on getting a Hamilton Khaki Field 38mm. I love field watches, and it has a sapphire. However, this specific grey dial Seiko is making the choice damn hard at this point. Dive watch looks, without the clunky bezel.. it is such an interesting design, which keeps pulling me. It'll need a sapphire upgrade, but that doesn't seem a big problem!
Excellent video. I also won the Seiko Lotto with perfectly aligned dials and ALSO +2 seconds! I actually got the all blue SRPD51K2 with a blue NATO strap and I'm very happy with it. I was going to treat it as a beater, but now I think it's too nice!! Love your video style, just subscribed.
Great review. My initial reaction to the SRPD range was initially pretty mediocre due to the lack of a screw down crown but I have warmed to them. As someone who last went snorkelling (not even scuba diving!) over 10 years ago, I really have no need for a dive watch so 100m of water resistance is probably ok for me 😂 Similarly, I saw the SRPEs as having all the “negatives” of the 5KXs when in reality a better way to view them is they’re beefed up Seiko 5s rather than a stripped down, fixed bezel SKX. I will definitely be picking one of these up at some point.
I got the srpe61 (with the NATO strap), and I LOVE it. understated elegance at its finest, but can also be a daily beater. a truly complete offering from seiko
daily beater for me, works on every strap and has been through hell after two years of near daily wear including manual labour. still keeps time within a few seconds a day :)
Hi, thanks for the video. I am fan of the Seiko 5 SNXS79K1. I just bought it new in USA for $108 as it was on a discount. This price includes a shipping of $12 to Canada. I think this is the most affordable Seiko's dress watch.
It was watching this video that made me buy the grey dailed version of the dresskx. Now after owning it a good long while I love the dial colour and like it the best out of all the colour variants. Just like the video shows works well with a ton of different coloured straps you may already own.
@@LastWatch Monsterwatches in Netherlands. It's my second order from them. Two months ago I got a Seiko SNK385 with double dome sapphire. Very pleased with it.
liked your video, I have been wearing Seiko's since I was 12 in 65. they were wind every day, and automatics. still have them all, the bands broke, not the watches.
in the 80's i got really mad because i was working on a car, and the band on my seiko broke. i threw it on the concrete, it was still working, an automatic. i prefer this over my rolexes.
Great review and photography. I love mine, it's my first Seiko and first bracelet, though I have about 15 watches, LOL. Bracelet's been good so far, and I really liked some of these. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Checked mate all notifications alive ! Glad they managed the mis-alignment without a rotaing bezel ! makes me think that they go out of their way to make sure it's there lol ! Shame the uncle bracelet doesn't fit the lugs properly :(
Ace vid! SRPE61 for me - I prefer the brushed bezel and the OEM Nato is fantastic. The only watch I'll ever need - chuffed to bits with it. Shades of Kurtz's bezel-less GMT, too.
I've looking for my first automatic for months, trying tô decide between all the seiko 5 line. But every time I went to a store to try one it felt like a Lady watch for my wrist. Today I found the all black version of this one and it felt perfect to me. But the monocromatic look and nato strap was a deal breaker. So I looked for a more clássic version and here it is. Now I'm certain about my choice: this is the one.
Bought two off Amazon for $220.. both had "srpe51k1" stickers over the "srpe51" stickers.. indicating both were made in Japan - and they are. I was going to keep the best one but they're both running at +/- 2 spd.. so I'm keeping them 😎 bought a long Island sapphire crystal, oyster bracelet with solid female end links (w an aliX milled clasp) and a president and jubilee bracelet from Uncle Seiko. Wasn’t expecting it to fit so well on my 7" wrist.. no more chinese homages.
Sounds like you now have 2 wonderful watches, for your reference ‘K’ would suggest that the watches were made out of Japan, possibly Malaysia but the build tolerances would be on a par
I'm a sucker for Seiko 5s. Would you believe I've sold both a Hamilton and Certina worth 5 times + in my time and replaced them with 5s! They all seem to have a charm about them that doesn't seem easy to replicate. Yes, they have quirks and flaws but somehow it doesn't seem to matter to me. Perhaps it's to do with the price but somehow I think it's more than that. It's hard to articulate, as you can tell from this ramble but Seiko in general and 5s in particular have a little bit of magic that I'll always adore. As I type this I'm happily wearing the wonderful SNKL15K1 (A gem!)
@@LastWatch a khaki field mechanical. It was a really nice watch but I just didn't connect to it as much as the seiko snzg15 I had before I bought it. So I swapped back.
@@LastWatch I usually tell myself I’ll buy a colorful dial, but end up getting the black. What do you think of the Uncle Seiko bracelet? I recently bought their jubilee for my Sarb, and for the price I was unhappy about the clasp, and in particular the rolled link joining the clasp to the bracelet. The pins were extremely hard to remove. Overall it didn’t feel like $80 worth, but then again maybe that’s just the economics of a small US brand making model specific bracelets. I will say that from a few feet away it looks great! Might try the Strapcode one on it once I can bear to spend another $120 on it.
I agree, the President looks great and its a sweet change from an oyster but solid end links and a milled clasp would be very welcome. I think Larry is keen to have everything come in at a certain budget which effects the components. I'm looking at possible options for my Turtle STO, what would you recommend
Is that the SRPC91 with 22mm lug width? It looks like there’s some nice looking Strapcode options for that around the $80. I’ve not tried any of these but the construction looks solid. I think I’d be inclined to order one from Amazon to see if it looks worth it (then at least it’s easy to return).
I am getting my hands on a Kanji model (same as this one), SBSA041. I like the rust colored or burgundy colored melange perlon straps. But, this looks best the way it comes: On a bracelet, it just finishes it off best.
I had an SRPD(85K1), it was super top heavy, I took it back and got the SRPE57K1, it’s so much thinner and lighter.Weirdly, Seiko has chosen to keep the same case and bezel of the SRPDs but call some an SRPE, ie, SRPE75K1and SRPE77K1.
I went for the SRPE53 blue dial it's a stunning watch, greater than the sum of its parts. I've been wearing mine on the same Vario twill nato but it looks good on pretty much anything.
@@piquetuk Sorry but I'm new in watches and I didn't understand you. I measured the bracelet width and it's 18mm. It looks a bit small on my wrist and I want a bigger bracelet if possible to fit. Can you advise?
@@sng- Measure the lug width on the watch itself not the strap, the Seiko bracelet isn't the same width all the way down, by the clasp it's only 17mm but where the spring bars fit to the watch, between the lugs, it should be 20mm if it's not you don't have an SRPE53. I think Strapcode & Long Island Watch do more substantial bracelets for the SRPE but they will still be 20mm wide at the spring bar ends but thicker (depth) & better quality overall, I haven't seen the LIW version but I have a strapcode bracelet for my SKX & it's very impressive, if the SRPE version is as good I'll probably get one myself though I haven't found a strap the SRPE53 doesn't look good on, a distressed yellowy brown leather NATO is a current favourite. Hope that helps.
Mine has made in Japan inside bottom dial. Read somewhere those that do not have made in Japan, inside dial with type movement. Are made or assembled in China. May want to fact check this. I do like my SRP51E a lot. The one with the blue dial is nice looking also.
Would take one in preference to the overrated skx any day ( yes I have had SKX's). Big improvement imho... Really not a fan of the day/date, would look so much better with date only at six, or better still no date at all - tho I guess it'd be too close to the Tudor BB 36/41. Cheers mate 👍🏻
Nice review of a really nice Seiko! 🍻 I'm leaning toward the black dial variant on the Nato strap. It would be nice if Seiko offered it with no date. But; that's fine. I have a few Seiko 5s, and they are always reliable, and fun!
I love these SRPE’s, I’m likely going to pick one up. But I do own a black dial/bezel SRPD and I love it. I love the Seiko 5 line. I wear my SRPD almost every day.
For me personally, I love the watch. However, I would beyond love the watch if it had the old Seiko badge and if it stated ‘24 Jewels’ opposed to the automatic statement.
I just got a seiko prospex and just got a presidential band. The presidential band just looks great! Once had the jubilee and didn’t like it. The oyster band was good. Currently on a rubber band and it’s conforming but the presidential band is sensational
I just got back into watches and picked up the black SRPE. Before knowing it was offered in sunburst grey 🤦🏼 Edit: And YES, the SRPE is my strap monster; the size & simple layout render it very versatile
@@LastWatch 💯 I *KNOW* that's right! 👍 Edit: Grey is on the way, gonna put it on this Uncle Seiko Speedmaster 20mm bracelete & add sapphire dome for a vintage look. I think it'll be a hot number, while black can remain my strap monster since it's easy to match or contrast. Thanks for responding & for the channel/content
Thanks for the video, I just bought this as my first automatic watch and wanted to ask is it bad to wear it while playing sports like tennis? I've noticed if I shake it somewhat hard it can make the second hand go slower/faster by like 5 seconds. Is this normal?
Most modern automatic movements have a form of shock absorbtion for everyday tasks but I would consider removing your watch if youre a hard hitter with the racket
I love my seiko sport 5 but I have to disassemble it to wind it. The magic lever wears out in the first day and won't give you more than 2 hours of reserve. The stem doesn't wind either. Bummer. Such a good watch.
What I don't like about Seiko is the way they plaster so much text on the glass case back. It cheapens the look of the watch. I took a Dremel tool and some compound and removed it on mine.
@@LastWatch Most comfortable and practical watch band by far! Admittedly best suited for small military pilot watches. It is a nice Serica/Joseph Bonnie…
