Blue lagoon vs great white, samurai vs turtle Srpb09 srpb11 srpd21 sbdy031 Blue dial divers, we have so many great choices and options. You really can’t go wrong with whatever you decide.
Well, Samurai versus Turtle.. I just cannot understand why the Turtle is so much more loved than the Samurai. The Samurai is certainly one sharp-looking watch! Shouldn't be second fiddle to the Turtle.
The Turtle case is incredibly comfortable. I have relatively large wrists and forearms so the guarded 4 o’clock crown is so much nicer on the wrist than a protruding 3 o’clock crown case. Then again I still have to try out a Samurai before I can judge!
I managed to purchase a new Seiko Samurai Great White (Save the Ocean) in Q3 2024 and I absolutely love it. The textured dial refracts the light in a unique way and looks amazing. This is now my daily wear and I only use my Apple Watch 7 when I go mountain biking or hiking.
I have a PADI Samurai and a save the ocean turtle and i love them both. As a Seiko fan for me this two models can coexist in every Seiko collection. Strangely i dont have an SKX 😁
Honestly Rob, I am totally addicted now - every day after work anticipate my daily fix of the "reality watch show" by Random Rob!!! Thanks for sharing with us!
The Seiko samurai looks chiseled, tough & angular. While the turtle looks like it was designed after a bloated, fat guy's beer gut. Samurai 4 the win! ⌚ 💡 ⌚ 💡
It’s funny, I have a 6-1/2” wrist, and I prefer the Samurai case design to the Turtle. Just feels better to me for some reason. And I’m pretty much an SKX junkie too, so that tells you something.
I prefer the Samurai I find it a bit more comfortable seems to plant to my wrist better. The lume on the Turtle looks like it's stickers applied to the indices kind of cheap looking.
Samurai all the way I got an 8 in 1/4 wrist and you are absolutely correct it is in my opinion much more masculine it's definitely one of my top three watches I have the Padi version and I will own the great white... great video Rob as usual🤘🤘
Haha easy bro...its the Samurai! especially when it comes to the Blue Lagoon. I was on the same dilemma as you and after I got the Samuari its such a no brainer BTW I'm curious if you actually made the leap?
For me the Turtle wins because it's design looks more unique whereas the Samurai has maybe little too much of that generic round diver look. Might still get one at some point though..:D
As an owner of both I have to say that I love them each for different reasons. The Samurai withe the strapcode hexad is definitely the more masculine watch but the turtle is more classic. The crown isn't an issue on either.
I just picked up a SRPC93 earlier today. I think it’s called save the ocean blue whale and has the samurai case. The thing wears awesome and is a thing of beauty!
I got the great white turtle and it's a stunning watch. I've also got a samurai in black and that is also a stunning and uniquely designed watch with amazing angles and detail. I've also got the 4th gen monster which is kind of the best of both. Took years to be able to afford all 3 but don't regret any of the purchases. All great watches.
Great review and topic! I don't care for the yellow details of the Blue Lagoon which is why I went for the new Great White Sammy. I prefer the Sammy over the Turtle for same reasons you mention. Imo its just a better case design- not as short and wide. At some point I am going to mod my Blue Coral Sumo w a polished chapter ring to loose the yellow.
One thing....I just checked eBay and I'm not seeing Great White Samurais in excellent condition for anything like the $300-$400 range discussed in the video. They're going for double that.
I got both, the Samurai and the Turtle from Kohl’s. The black bands look much better on both of these watches. The Samurai comes with a stainless bracelet. So I ordered a black Seiko band for it, and wow does it look better. So I kept the Samurai and returned the Turtle.
Ideally, I want samurai great white with bezel of samurai blue lagoon and hour indicators (circles) of the turtle watch ;D But other wise it is tough choice between two samurais. The turquoise color on Blue lagoon makes the whole blueness of watch so much more beautiful than gray of great white shark.
I just picked up the great white JDM Turtle today over the Samurai. I tried on both! I did find the Turtle a bit weird looking but it definitely grew on me.The Turtle looks more unique I found, and the round case is very comfy. I was looking for the dive watch look, and circle markers sorted that. The mix with bell markers is a nice touch too. To be honest the case on the Samurai looked like my Casio Edifice ECB-900 with the angular lugs, in fact identical. Another reason why I went with the Turtle. It is an instant classic when you look at the shape! It's been in movies etc, so I guess the watch can be a conversation starter, lol! Both are sweet though, can't go wrong with either. I might pick up a Samurai another time! ;)
Lol a lot of these people commenting saying the samurai is better obviously haven’t worn a turtle, they are a lot more comfortable than than the samurai because of the case being so rounded and it fits the hand a lot better and doesn’t slide around as much, with that being said, I’d pick the great white all day 👍🏽
Terry Newton it’s so cool, man. I have a smaller 7 in wrist but the watch wears so perfectly with the short lugs I can get away with the 44 mm diameter. Great piece.
bwcastillo Oh, big difference. It makes the watch feels more premium. It reminds me of my Oris Aquis. Both are about 195 grams. Heavier than on the stock bracelet.
I agree with the better looks of the solid blue dial of the save the ocean. I prefer the bezel of the great white. I don't like the weird shade of blue/green on the save the ocean bezel. Own a turtle but really like the samarai look.
Samurai Great White for me. I much prefer the sharp and aggressive lines of the Samurai vs the rounded case of the Turlte. That's a complete no brainer for me. As for Blue Lagoon vs the new STO (Great White), I prefer the latter purely because the wave pattern is very subtle and gives the watch that added character, and that shark fin design on the second hand counter-balance just looks HOT! Little details like that appeal to me. You still get that gorgeous sunburst effect of the Blue Lagoon too. It's just a stellar watch
I second this; the Samurai may feel a bit top heavy indeed. I do not own the Turtle though, so I can't compare them. But the Sammy's a heavy (metal) watch !
For me it’s easy: Samurai Great White! It is ruggedly beautiful. I dislike the marshmallow look of the Turtle. Just as much, I dislike the dull bezel insert and hands of the Turtle. The Samurai Great White has an interesting bezel insert with texture, and aggressive hands. The dial of the Samurai Great White is superb. The wave pattern and shark fin are subtle. In some light barely visible, but with a flick of the wrist they shine! I would not call this a gimmick or “wizardry” at all. The Blue Lagoon dial is a standard blue sunburst dial. Nice, but nothing to write home about. I have a Seiko 5 with a stunning blue sunburst dial. Also, the Blue Lagoon bezel insert is dull. The watch is too blue overall - it lacks both contrast and texture. The Seiko “Save the Ocean” models are about veneration for the oceans. The Samurai Great White conveys a sense of the beauty and mystery of the deep, with a touch of imagination.
I still don't know which I would buy. To me the Samurai looks better, with the sharp angular lines, but the Turtle is more comfortable on my wrist, with the cushioned case.
Wow the blue ocean, beautiful and attractive watches, I like the turtle SBDY031 but on a rubber/silicon strap which will look like the high end turtle sbdx031, and also in summer the bracelet become very hot
Thank you for the so nice comparison. The Samurai looks bigger because it has a bigger face (excluding the diving ring). What do your measurements says about my observation?
dial for dial i think the padi is much more brilliant than the blue lagoon; hard to match that sunburst. as for sammy vs turtle, would have to go for the turtle if stock. if they both modded up i would pick the sammy. its pretty rare to see a modded sammy.
The new Save the Oceans are the best looking Seiko blue divers made right now. Sorry but It’s way better than the Blue Lagoon. I don’t like the vibrant sunburst blue or the yellow highlights on the Blue Lagoon. I have way too many watches right now (14) but very tempted to buy a Save The Ocean Samurai or Turtle.
