Casio wins hands down. The floating hour markers, the milled clasp, the metal finishing, the angle shapes of the end links, the additional functionality of BlueTooth... Casio all the way. The only thing Seiko did better here was the clearer looking glass. Not enough to win over the Casio in my opinion. Great video though. Thanks for making it.
Oceanus with its Zuratstu polishing! My bet is that the original owner of the T200 tried to polish those edges and messed it up. Those would normally be mirror-like finished. The crystal is hard to see most of the time, even though the lighting in this video doesn't really show it. I own 3 Oceanuses, the T-200, P2000 Cachelot, S5000 Manta. I own several Seikos and the Oceanus watches are better built all around. Of course there is the pretty strong indication/rumor that Oceanus and Grand Seiko are made in the same factory. You showed making manual adjustments to the Oceanus. Why would you when the app does all that for you?
I couldn't make up my mind so I got both! I looked at the next level titanium SBTM Seiko you recommended at the end but the patterned dial worries me a bit. My titanium watch is the Oceanus S100. That watch is a beauty. Love the set and forget accurate watches. Great review.
The Seiko looks better, but they both look boring. But in a nice way. Nice, boring watches. Don't really see the point in the techno features except for the phone finder thing. You could use it like an ankle tag to find someone. Useful in a crowded bar.
I've owned both of these, and now own a SBTM339. I found the Casio to have a more premium feel and look, especially for the cost, but I had difficulty getting my Oceanus to reliably pick up the radio signal. I've had this issue with other Casio watches, but my Seiko radio control watches have never had this problem. I opted for the SBTM339 because I really love the lighter blue dial, love classic Seiko design and wanted a radio watch. I've been slowly building a collection of premium quartz watches, with a pair of Chronomasters, a pair of 9F Grand Seikos, and a couple of limited edition Citizens. The SBTM339 feels at home with these.
@@AmbibblyI would say it is pretty obvious. The dial has a good sunburst as well, and the blue is a really nice denim shade, but the stripes are there for sure.
@@MrSitemaster2 It wasn't automatic; I had to open the app and make it connect every time I wanted to have the watch reset. It was less convenient than just manually resetting the watch.
Something you didn't mention - that Seiko had folded end-links while the Casio had solid end-links. For multiple reasons like that, the Casio has a much more premium feeling to it.
@@philspencelayh5464 old rolex watches were not luxury. The rolexes of old didn’t cost nearly as much and didn’t have to compete with quartz until the 70s. Name me a modern luxury watch that uses hollow end links
@@ailestriker9888 I must have a skewed concept of luxury, whilst few current Rolex's are to my taste all of the ones I've seen most seem pretty luxurious. I didn't realise that solid end links are the pointer to the status of a watch. The Casio must then be the better product along with most of the Aliexpress watches I've seen.
As a quartz aficionado and Oceanus owner, I take strong exception to your casual statement that - quote - these are the kind of watches mostly bought by non watch enthusiasts - unquote. That was uncalled for, IMHO. The finishing of that Oceanus is in another league, where Seiko can't play.
Casio Oceanus is the bomb ! I think it is a vastly underrated watch and just does not get the love it deserves . Casio seems to have a stigma as a cheap plastic watch maker however the Oceanus lineup is way over the top ! Personally I love the simple uncluttered dial ! My choice hands down is a Oceanus !
@@artbanks27 I get that those that own them love them , I own two and would really like to purchase another , just not any retail stores in the Chicagoland area that have them in stock .
I've had my Casio S100 for 2yrs, it's a brilliant watch and I still love it, only two niggles for me are the pin and collar bracelet and only two micro adj. always seems a bit strange to me that the S100 is titanium but the T200 is stainless steel
I didn’t even know Seiko made a three hand quartz, solar, radio controlled watch. Damn it. Another watch I need to add to “the list.” Thanks for the great comparison. I like Edifice Watches but just based on size, I’m going Seiko.
Not sure what the letters around the Seiko mean but they appear to be centred on minute markers. So MSF is at 60;seconds and DCF is at 01 seconds. I presume some button press will send a hand spinning around to the letters which will tell you something.
Bluetooth makes the Casio Oceanus a winner. I bought this watch recently for that reason. Bluetooth regulates watch accuracy much faster and more reliably than radio-sync. Adjustable bracelet clasp is a huge bonus, giving a perfect refit throughout the day!
Interesting to hear that, I have a cheap radio controlled watch (klick) just to see what its like and several radio controlled clocks. I have never thought time syncing a problem, it just happens and I'd have thought with Solar power when you just need to do it once when you buy it even less so
In my brief time as a watch collector - starting when I bought the Pagani Design Speedy homage instead of a Moon Swatch - I’ve bought two dozen watches, half of them automatics. While I haven’t lost my admiration for the ingenuity of the mechanism that allows them to run without winding or batteries when worn regularly, I have found a growing impatience with having to wind and reset whichever one I choose to wear. When pressed for time, I will select one of my quartz watches instead. That got me thinking that I should add a true Set-and-Forget watch to my collection. My choice was Casio's WVA-M640D-1ACR. It's an Ana-Digi that never needs winding or a battery because it's solar powered and never needs setting because it receives atomic time by radio. As a bonus, I get such digital amenities as a stopwatch, a countdown timer, multiple alarms, and an LED so it can be read in the dark. It looks good, is highly legible, is light on the wrist, and has easily become my default timepiece.
Oceanus for me, even though they're both kind of similarly looking, to be honest. And since we're going JDM, how about some crazy looking Albas, instead of "regular" Seikos?😄
The Oceanus is in a whole other league than this seiko. The finishing alone is ridiculous in comparison. I find the looks and overall package (Bluetooth, app control/battery life) to be the the cherry on top.
No contest, Seiko, despite the clasp. More my size better looking , better crystal. The Casio's extras are irrelevant if you are in range of a radio transmitter which will take care of "daylight savings" for you. The Casio blue splodge logo looks a mess to me.
G good to see these side by side. The Seiko would certainly blend in among other Seikos (automatics, solar and quartz) whereas the Oceanus has its own thing going one. I have the S100 Oceanus and the lightness of the titanium definitely adds something to these watches. So I think your choice of the titanium Seiko makes sense given your preference here. Hopefully it lives up to expectations - and I would ask Sakura to inspect it before shipping it to you so as to try to avoid getting a “duff” one. G
Excellent video Gary, but as a watch collector I could easily wear either of them, though from a dimensions viewpoint, the Seiko seems slimmer and more refined. I have discovered the benefits of having a watch in your box that you can pick up and go and be certain that it has not has the correct time but also the correct date too. Invaluable !
I currently have the SBXY033 (Astron solar radio, no GPS) and was also looking at the SBTM341 as a cheaper daily watch. Looks very sharp! Please let us know about the striped dial pattern when you get it!
I would chose the Casio. It is looking better and has better functionalitÿ. Having said this I would prefer the older Casio Oceanus S 100 because it is smaller and made of titanium.
Hi! I love your channels. Just in case you take suggestions, I can't find a review of the Steeldive sd 1985. That's all, once again, your videos have helped me buy and not but many watches. Thanks again!
I have the Oceanus S100 which I think is much better looking than its T200 successor, it's a svelte little beauty and will always remain in my collection. I wasn't aware of the Seiko and may pick one up.
It's a tricky business to generalize about what watch enthusiasts might like or prefer. I am a watch enthusiast and I have the Seiko you featured here on order. Go figure.
You have only been alone with watches to long if you start discussing with Frank what the goal of humanity is and whether or not we need watches to achieve it. 😉
Hey, mate! I recently got a pretty awesome Titanium Citizen and I'd love to see a new video about budget bracelets that are actually good. Would you have something to suggest? No need for a video, in essence, I'd just like to know where to look.
Casio way nicer..citizen also have a similar but it to pales into the shadow..I have this watch on my want list even though it will need to share wrist time
"non watch enthusiasts"..... sigh.....lets cut through the BS here shall we? If quartz had been invented first? Mechanical/automatic watches would never have been invented at all
