Actually, I don't know if anyone realizes this, but "Art Vandelay" refers to a neo-expressionist existential watercolor painting movement made popular in the late 1920's. I, myself, have several representative examples of "Art Vandelay" hanging in my home.
So, I remember about 4 or 5 years after this ran, a new burrito place opened up in town. Good food, can’t remember the name. Seemed like they were doing well, but closed a month later. Couldn’t find any info on what happened, other THAN the parent company was ACTUALLY named Vandelay Industries. We all had our theories that it was some kind of elaborate scams of some sort.
I actually got a construction job way back for a company called Vandelay Construction. I saw they were hiring and I did a double take - Vandelay? Seriously? I walked into their office and got a job immediately. A few weeks later I told them the reason I applied to work with them was because of the Seinfeld Art Vandelay running joke and NOBODY I mean NOBODY knew what I was talking about. I was shocked and disturbed.
